The next session of our Adult Confirmation Program is this Monday, February 6th at 6:00 p.m. in
the Rectory Meeting Room. All those adults receiving the Sacraments are asked to be present at this

The Cenacle
This devotion to Mary is prayed the First Friday of
each month in the Chapel immediately after the 5:00
p.m. Mass and prayed on the Fourth Friday of the
Month at 6:00 p.m.
We thank the members of the Golden Age Club,
Social Center, East Boston for their donation
for the purchase of candle oil, which was given
in memory of Kay Barrett.

FROM THE DEACON’S DESK
Last Saturday, I had the privilege of attending the
Ordination of seven men to the “Transitional Diaconate”; who, with prayer and encouragement, will continue to discern their call to the Priesthood. An exciting and most beautiful time of prayer and reflection!
A NOTE FROM FR. WAYNE
Last weekend, I mentioned at the Masses the proposed pastoral plan of the Archdiocese of Boston. In this plan, the Archdiocese is simply attempting to consolidate parish resources and not
close any churches. The proposed plan is to appoint a pastor, who in turn will select a Pastoral
Service Team (PST) that will help maintain and
run a grouping of parishes. What does that mean
here in Eastie? The Archdiocese is proposing to
have Sacred Heart, Most Holy Redeemer, and
Our Lady of the Assumption under the direction
of one pastor instead of three. Since we already
share responsibility for East Boston Central
Catholic, there may be other resources that we
could share as well. For instance, perhaps we
could combine Adult Religious Education Programs, Sacramental Programs, Outreach to the
Homebound, and other administrative resources.
The purpose of the proposed plan is to
strengthen the parishes not close them. The
three parishes mentioned (I did not include St.
Joseph-St. Lazarus because they will belong to
another collaborative) remain open as parishes
with services and Masses provided. The only difference is that a pastor with the PST will have responsibility of running the three distinct parishes.
Each parish will continue to have its own identity
and the financial resources (collections and fundraisers) remain at and only used for the individual
parish. This means money from one parish is not
to be used for another parish. The PST and the
parish finance councils will ensure that this is respected. I want to stress that the proposed plan is
to help parishes share pastoral and administrative
resources. After the February Parish Pastoral and
Finance Council meetings, more information will
be provided.
I received a “jolt” from Father Wayne, when he reminded those of us who were at the Mass, later that
same day, that the Archdiocese of Boston would only
have four new Priests ordained in June. (Several of
men were ordained for other Dioceses and for Religious Orders). Sadly, in this first month of 2012, nine
Priests of the Archdiocese have died. You can do the
math! It is our reminder that each of us is responsible to pray for and encourage vocations. On Saturday
morning, after the 8:00 a.m. Community Mass, we
offer a Holy Hour for Vocations. If you cannot join
us, please offer your personal prayers for vocations!

La prima lettura e il vangelo si richiamano e si completano, così come la promessa esige il dono, e l’attesa invoca la venuta. Oggetto della promessa e
dell’attesa è il grande profeta che Dio susciterà
come un secondo Mosè.
La storia della salvezza è storia di Dio che parla con
il suo popolo; in questa storia il profetismo appare
come una delle linee di forza che percorrono tutta
l’esistenza di Israele come popolo, e caratterizzano
la sua esperienza religiosa fin dai tempi di Mosè.

chi non è sposato si preoccupa delle cose del Signore, come possa piacere al Signore; chi è sposato
invece si preoccupa delle cose del mondo, come
possa piacere alla moglie, e si trova diviso!
Così la donna non sposata, come la vergine, si preoccupa delle cose del Signore, per essere santa nel
corpo e nello spirito; la donna sposata invece si preoccupa delle cose del mondo, come possa piacere
al marito.
Questo lo dico per il vostro bene: non per gettarvi
un laccio, ma perché vi comportiate degnamente e
restiate fedeli al Signore, senza deviazioni.
La carità è paziente, la carità è benigna,
comprende, non si adirà e non dispera mai.
La carità perdona, la carità si adatta, si
dona senza sosta con gioia e umiltà.

nella loro sinagoga vi era un uomo posseduto da
uno spirito impuro e cominciò a gridare, dicendo:
«Che vuoi da noi, Gesù Nazareno? Sei venuto a
rovinarci? Io so chi tu sei: il santo di Dio!». E Gesù
gli ordinò severamente: «Taci! Esci da lui!». E lo
spirito impuro, straziandolo e gridando forte, uscì
da lui.

nuovo, dato con autorità. Comanda persino agli spiriti impuri e gli obbediscono!».
