Twenty-second Sunday in
Ordinary Time
Pope Saint Gregory the Great
Feast Day - September 3
St. Gregory, born at Rome about the year 540, was
the son of Gordianus, a wealthy senator, St. Gregory
later renounced the world and became one of the
seven deacons of Rome. After he had acquired the
usual thorough education, Emperor Justin the
Younger appointed him, in 574, Chief Magistrate of
Rome, though he was only thirty-four years of age.
After the death of his father, he built six monasteries
in Sicily and founded a seventh in his own house in
Rome, which became the Benedictine Monastery of
St. Andrew. Here, he himself assumed the monastic
habit in 575, at the age of thirty-five. After the death
of Pelagius, St. Gregory was chosen Pope by the
unanimous consent of priests and people. Now began those labors which merited for him the title of
Great. His zeal extended over the entire known
world, he was in contact with all the Churches of
Christendom and, in spite of his bodily sufferings,
and innumerable labors, he found time to compose
a great number of works. He is one of the four great
Doctors of the Latin Church. He died March 12,
604. He is the patron of teachers.
Saint Gregory, pray for us!

XXII TEMPO ORDINARIO
From the Deacon’s desk ….
A note from Fr. Wayne . . .
Just a reminder
This week Saint John’s Seminary will
begin a new Academic and Formation
Year. We are extremely blessed here at
Sacred Heart because we have two
young men from the parish who are preparing and discerning for the priesthood. Domenic
is in his final year. This January he will be ordained
a deacon then in May a priest. I am, as all of you
should be, extremely proud and inspired by him.
He will make a priest who is modeled after the heart
of Christ. Steven will begin his journey at the Seminary. He joins the First pre-Theology program. He
will begin with philosophy and theology courses that
are geared to shaping his mind and heart. I am
happy that Steven has accepted this call of discernment. May God help them both in their studies and
formation, and may God who has begun this good
work in them bring it one day to fulfillment.
Novena for Life
Starting Friday, September 11th and for nine
consecutive Friday nights, please join us for a
Novena for Life at 6:00 PM, in the Rectory Chapel.
An inmate at Old Colony Correctional found this
and I thought it was worthwhile sharing with each of
you:
O God, “As the World Turns”, help us to remember
that you have said, you are “All My Children”. As
your children, we ask you to be our “Guiding Light”,
whether we live in “Santa Barbara” or spend sometime in a “General Hospital”. Since we have only
“One Life to Live”, maybe we realize that life does
not just belong to “The Bold and Beautiful” or “The
Young and the Restless”. But in “The Days of our
Lives”, being bless brought us through all generations
and lead us to “Another World” with you. Amen
Also, if there is anybody reading this note today who
knows of or who feels the call to serve the Lord; do
not hesitate to speak to Fr. Wayne or Fr. Chris after
Mass.
Stay up to date by getting on the Sacred Heart
Parish email list. Send an email
[email protected] and we will add you
to our growing list. Join today!
2016 Mass Book
The new 2016 Mass Book will be available on Tuesday, September 8th after
10:00 a.m.
In fairness to all our parishioners, we
must ask that for Weekend Mass Intentions; families will be limited to reserve only three Masses. In the past,
many people were unable to have a
Mass for their loved ones due to the
number of people taking many Mass
Intentions.
There will be no limit on the Weekday Mass Intentions as long as people
don’t take advantage of the amount of
Masses reserved.

XXII TEMPO ORDINARIO
What we believe . . .
Love, Rules and Grace
Our culture frequently exalts individual autonomy against community and tradition. This can lead to a suspicion
of rules and norms that come from a tradition. This can also be a cause of a healthy criticism of a legalism that
can arise from concentrating on rules and norms.
Advocates of Christian morality can sometimes lapse into a legalism that leads to an unproductive moralizing.
There is no doubt that love has to be the essential foundation of the moral life. But just as essential in this
earthly realm are rules and laws that show how love may be applied in real life. In heaven, love alone will suffice.
In this world, we need moral guidance from the Commandments, the Sermon on the Mount, the Precepts of
the Church and other rules to see how love works.
Love alone, set adrift from moral direction, can easily descend into sentimentality that puts us at the mercy of
our feelings. Popular entertainment romanticizes love and tends to omit the difficult demands of the moral order.
In our permissive culture, love is sometimes so romanticized that it is separated from sacrifice. Because of this,
tough moral choices cannot be faced. The absence of sacrificial love dooms the possibility of an authentic moral
life.
Scripturally and theologically, the Christian moral life begins with a loving relationship with God, a covenant
love made possible by the sacrifice of Christ. The Commandments and other moral rules are given to us as ways
of protecting the values that foster love of God and others. They provide us with ways to express love, sometimes by forbidding whatever contradicts love.
The moral life requires grace. The Catechism speaks of this in terms of life in Christ and the inner presence of
the Holy Spirit, actively enlightening our moral compass and supplying the spiritual strength to do the right
thing. The grace that comes to us from Christ in the Spirit is as essential as love and rules and, in fact, makes
love and keeping the rules possible.

Verbum Domini
Deo Gratias
SALMO RESPONSORIALE
L’INGRESSO
Lodate Dio, schiere beate del cielo,
Lodate Dio, genti di tutta la terra;
Cantate a lui, che l’universo creò,
Somma sapienza e splendore.
Lodate Dio, ricco di grazia e perdono;
GLORIA
Gloria a Dio nell'alto dei cieli e pace in terra agli
uomini di buona volontà. Noi ti lodiamo, ti
benediciamo, ti adoriamo, ti glorifichiamo, ti
Signore,
Figlio unigenito, Gesù Cristo, Signore Dio, Agnello
Amen.
SECONDA LETTURA
Dalla lettera di san Giacomo apostolo
Fratelli miei carissimi, ogni buon regalo e
ogni dono perfetto vengono dall'alto e discendono
Religione pura e senza macchia davanti a Dio Padre
diranno:

Il Signore con tutti voi
AUGUST 30, 2015
OFFERTORIO
Rit: Com’è bello, Signor, stare insieme
ed amarci come ami Tu; qui c’è Dio,
Alleluia!
La carità è paziente, la carità è benigna,
comprende, non si adirà e non dispera
mai. Rit.
E con il tuo spirito
Dal vangelo secondo Marco Gloria a Te, O Signore
In quel tempo, si riunirono attorno a Gesù i farisei e
alcuni degli scribi, venuti da Gerusalemme. Avendo
Tutte
queste cose cattive vengono fuori dall'interno e rendono impuro l'uomo».
Verbum Domini

Rit.
FINALE
Lodate Dio, uno e trino Signore,
Lodate Dio, meta e primio dei buoni;
Cantate a lui, sorgente d’ogni bontà
Per tutti i secoli. Amen.

IL CREDO DEGLI APOSTOLI
L’Angelus
V. L’Angelo del Signore portò l’annunzio a Maria;
R. Ed ella concepì per opera dello Spirito Santo.
Credo in Dio, Padre onnipotente,
Creatore del cielo e della terra.
E in Gesù Cristo, Suo Figlio unigenito,
Signore nostro; il quale fu concepito
di Spirito Santo, nato dalla vergine Maria;
soffrì sotto Ponzio Pilato, fu crocifisso, morì
e fu sepolto; discese agli inferi;
il terzo giorno risuscitò dai morti; ascese al cielo;
siede alla destra di Dio Padre onnipotente;
Io credo nello Spirito Santo;
la santa Chiesa universale;
la comunione dei santi;
la remissione dei peccati;
la risurrezione della carne; la vita eterna.
Amen.
