The go al was to build a po sitive energy building, using De scrizio ne archit e t t o nica : The architectural design, vo luntarily so ber, was based o n bio climatic principles: the building must adapt better to the Mediterranean climate to ensure o ccupant co mfo rt. In winter heating requirements are reduced to a minimum: • The building has a simple shape and a go o d co mpactness, to limit lo ss surfaces. • The main facade so uth favo rs so lar gain in o ffices, the majo rity o n this o rientatio n. Sto rage facilities and service are po sitio ned buffer space to the no rth. • The cho ice o f timber frame insulated with straw pro vides a very high level o f insulatio n o f the walls. In summer, the envelo pe limit o verheating by ado pting the fo llo wing principles: • The building is equipped with fixed and mo bile so lar pro tectio n blo cking direct sunlight while allo wing so lar gain in winter. • The thermal inertia, rather light wo o d frame is reinfo rced by interio r partitio ns earth-straw and mud brick. • A natural night ventilatio n is made po ssible by the o pening o f swinging wo o dwo rk o n two o ppo site sides o f the building and glass transo ms facing traffic. Circulatio ns are lighted and ventilated by o ffice do o rs and exterio r do o rs at the end o f the co rrido r, all glass and equipped with o verhead transo ms. The exceptio n is the anhydrite screed left ro ugh after sanding and applying a hard pro tective o il. Due to pro blems o f tasks and premature wear co rrective actio n is being studied to make the hard, impervio us surface, while respecting the o bjective o f air quality inside. Its co mpo sitio n: sand, clay and plant fibers (mo stly straw) was designed to meet the needs o f sustainable pro tectio n o f straw and implementatio n ease. Hygro thermal characteristics o f the mixture make it an excellent ally o f building straw - indo o rs, it brings the inertia that co uld default do o therwise - o utdo o r, go o d permeability to the diffusio n o f water vapo r facilitates breathing wall and prevents co ndensatio n in the straw bale Co m m e nt i: The pro cess used is the pro jectio n that makes the efficient implementatio n time and labo r. We cho se the catego ry Lo w Carbo n to highlight the selected co nstructive so lutio ns: the timber frame, insulatio n, straw and earth plaster. These so lutio ns were fo und to respo nd with relevance to all pro ject design requirements.
