18 MAY 2014
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Lord, let your mercy be on us,
as we place our trust in you.
Alleluia, alleluia!
I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord;
no one comes to the Father, except through me.
Alleluia!
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just;
for praise is fitting for loyal hearts.
Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp,
with a ten-stringed lute sing him songs.
For the word of the Lord is faithful
and all his works to be trusted.
The Lord loves justice and right
and fills the earth with his love.
The Lord looks on those who revere him,
on those who hope in his love,
to rescue their souls from death,
to keep them alive in famine.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III
RECENTLY DECEASED: Sr Rita Perversi, Antonio
Fochesato, Nicola Ricci
ANNIVERSARIES: Rosa Guarella, Susie Senior
A PREPARED PLACE
When Jesus says, ‘I go to prepare a place for you,’
this also has a background in the Old Testament.
The phrase, ‘a prepared place’ always referred to
preparing a place for the Temple and the Ark of
the Covenant. So it is not that Jesus is preparing a
heavenly place for us to dwell in some time in the
future, but that right now, Jesus is preparing us to
be living Temples in whom God dwells and
members of God’s household. This chapter of
John’s Gospel, and the following chapter which
continues to use the word ‘dwell’ as it speaks of
disciples dwelling in a vine, provides a rich spiritual
concept of the mutual indwelling presence of God
and believer. Sr Mary Coloe
THE WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE
The focal point of the icon that has
accompanied our liturgies of Lent and
Easter is the person of Jesus. Today
we hear him speak of seeing with the
eyes of faith. To have seen Jesus is to
have seen what can only be seen by
faith – the Father. As we gaze upon
his face and hear his words today, may he reveal to
us the way, the truth and the life.
‘FAITH INTO ACTION’ – FINAL WEEK
The ‘Faith into Action’ series continued last
Wednesday with Fr Kevin Lenehan’s session on
our Easter faith in the crucified/resurrected Christ.
We still see Christ today in those who suffer. This
is the inspiration at the heart of our Christian call
to put faith into action.
On this Wednesday 21 May there will
be an open Parish Forum facilitated by
parishioner Bryan Cussen who has had
broad experience working in pastoral
planning with the Archdiocese of
Melbourne. This forum will give us an
opportunity to review and renew our hope and
vision for the parish.
The Parish Forum will be at 7.30pm in St
Ambrose’s Community Centre. Further details
are on the parish noticeboard. We encourage as
many people as possible to attend this session and
explore the many ways we as a parish can put our
faith into action. All warmly welcome!
OUR SUNDAY LITURGY
Would you like to be part of a team
that meets with Fr Michael to prepare
the liturgies of our Sunday Masses? As
we did last year, it is proposed that
we again set up a number of teams
that would take a turn to meet and plan the Sunday
Masses for each month. Each team would meet
perhaps two or three times in the year depending
on the number of people who volunteer. The team
would discuss ideas for the focus of the Mass, the
music, and suggestions for Prayers of Intercession.
Interested? There is a sign-up sheet in the gathering
space today.
MEALS IN SMALL GROUPS CONTINUE
The ‘Meals in Small Groups’
begin this weekend. These small
gatherings of 6 to 8 people
provide the opportunity for
parishioners to get to know one
another a little better, and simply
to enjoy each others’ company. A special thanks to
our generous hosts: Annette and David, Angela and
John, Di and Henry.
MASS OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK
On this Friday 23 May at
11.00am in St Ambrose’s
Church, there will be a Mass for
the Anointing of the Sick. This will
be followed by a lunch in the St
Ambrose’s Community Centre. For those needing
transport, please contact St Ambrose’s on 9380
1023.
2015 FOUNDATION ENROLMENT NOW OPEN
Our Lady Help of Christians Primary School has
now opened its 2015 Foundation (Prep) enrolment.
If your child turns five by 30 April 2015 and you are
seeking an outstanding Catholic Primary education
please call 9380 5050 to join our next school tour
with Principal Philip Cachia. Further information
can also be obtained at
www.olbrunswickeast.catholic.edu.au. Our
enrolments are filling fast and at present there are
only 20 vacancies remaining, so I would suggest
moving sooner rather than later, with first round
offers going out within the next month. We look
forward to meeting you.
– Philip Cachia
BR MICHAEL HERRY AWAY
Our choir leader, Br Michael Herry will be away
from the parish until the end of June (except for
next weekend). He will be working in Marist
ministries, including in East Timor. We wish him
well!
CATHOLIC CHAPLAINCY APPEAL TODAY
Today is Chaplaincy Sunday in the Archdiocese of
Melbourne. The Melbourne
Archbishop’s Charitable Fund will be
conducting a special collection in all
parishes for the purpose of supporting
the vital work of our Catholic
Chaplains who spend much of their time listening
to the anxieties, fears, hopes and joys of those they
meet. There is a prayer in the Appeal envelope
that everyone is encouraged to tear off and take
home, so you can continue to pray for the work of
our Catholic Chaplains.

Australian Catholic Bishops’ statement last week,
there are more copies on the church table.

Italian Page.
FILM AFTERNOON
Next Sunday 25 May
at 4.00pm there will be
a showing of the film
‘Of Gods and Men’ in St Ambrose’s Community
Centre. The film centres on the monastery of
Tibhirine, where nine Trappist monks lived in
harmony with the largely Muslim population of
Algeria until the country’s civil unrest disturbs their
lives. We won’t spoil the story line. It’s a great film.
Come along! This will be followed by pizza and
drinks. All welcome!
WORLD COMMUNICATIONS DAY
The 48th World Communications Day will be
celebrated on 25 May 2014 throughout the
Catholic Church in Australia. To celebrate the
occasion, the Australian Catholic Bishops’
Conference Communications Office has created a
digital storytelling project entitled Stirring Hearts.
Stirring Hearts is an online resource for your
parishes, schools, youth groups, diocesan agencies
and parishioners to use. Please refer to the
website: www.stirringhearts.org.au to access
digital stories and other resources.

Sunday 8 June at 5.00pm, St
Ambrose’s will be hosting the

preacher. Tri Nguyen recently
walked from Brunswick to
Canberra to deliver to Parliament a replica of the
boat in which he and his family fled to Australia. He

by Australia, and to plead for compassion for

IO SONO LA VIA, LA VERITÀ E LA VITA
Il punto centrale dell'icona che ha
accompagnato le nostre liturgie
della Quaresima e della Pasqua è la
persona di Gesù. Oggi lo sentiamo
parlare di vedere con gli occhi della
fede.

portare a casa, così puoi continuare a pregare

Australia. Lo ha fatto in
segno di gratitudine per il
dono del rifugio dato da Australia ed a
supplicare per compassione per rifugiati e
