“From the Desk of Father Jonathan”
As many of you already know, this month we are
saying goodbye to two great priests who have been in
residence at Our Lady of Mt Carmel for the last two
years while they did graduate studies at Fordham. Fr
Taemoon left last week to do mission work in China and
Fr Salty leaves in about ten days to return to the
Philippines to be chaplain at a very large hospital.
Please join me in thanking these great priests for their
service to our parish and praying for their new
assignments. Fathers, we came to know and love you.
Thank you for who you are and what you did for our
parish!!
I am happy to announce that, as of this week, we have a
new priest living with us and serving the parish
part-time. His name is Fr Livinus Anweting. He is from
Nigeria and is here in New York studying his doctorate
in religious education at Fordham. I have come to
appreciate Livinus greatly as a man and as a priest in the
short time I have known him and I have no doubt he
will become a beloved member of our family very
soon!
When you see Fr Livinus, please go up to him and
introduce yourselves. Fr Livinus' English is excellent
and he has told me he is looking forward to studying
Spanish. Let's teach him Italian while he is at it!!
Finally, I must say that I'm looking forward to celebrating with all of you the Feast of St Anthony. The feast
begins Wednesday of this week. I am very appreciative
of Frank Franz who has been our point person for the
many aspects of the preparation. And he has done all of
this work pro-bono.
Fr. Jonathan

REFLECTING ON GOD’S WORD
Sunday Gospel: Mark 14: 12-16. 22-26
RIFLESSIONE SULLA PAROLA DI DIO
Vangelo della Domenica: Marco 14: 12-16. 22-26
Today is Corpus Christi, the feast of the Eucharist, a
celebration that dates back to the thirteenth century.
In some ways, every Sunday is a feast of the Eucharist.
In the last century attention to Eucharistic devotions
declined, while more people received frequent
Communion. Recent efforts to revitalize adoration of
Jesus in the Eucharist through Perpetual Adoration,
Corpus Christi celebrations, and Eucharistic Congresses
have brought us back into balance. At Mass, when we
receive Communion we are honoring and celebrating the
precious gift of the Lord’s own Body and Blood.
Communion is a fulfillment of Christ’s promise to be
always with us. And Jesus in the Eucharist always
requires a response from us. At the end of every Mass
we are sent forth to love and serve the Lord.
He gives us his very self—the greatest gift of all—so
that we can go into the world and give in return.
Living Stewardship Now
“Lord Jesus Christ, we worship you living among us
in the sacrament of your body and blood. May we
offer to our Father in heaven a solemn pledge of
undivided love. May we offer to our brothers and
sisters a life poured out in loving service of that
kingdom where you live with the Father and the Holy
Spirit, one God, for ever and ever”
HOLY NAME SOCIETY

REFLEXIONEMOS LA PALABRA DE DIOS
Evangelio del Domingo: Marcos 14: 12-16. 22-26
Hoy
amar y servir a Dios.

School Blog--Sunday, June 7th
As the school year winds down and as we prepare to
enter into the summer months, it is a great time for
our community members to see the wonderful
improvements and strides made to the school. In the
spirit of keeping the school a part of the heart of this
community, I invite you to make an appointment to
tour the building or simply to stop by to chat with me
about our exciting future. There is no better time to
do this than during this month – the month dedicated
to the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. Come to see how
the heart of Christ is alive and beating with the
service work of the children, the dedication to our
Catholic values, and the desire on the part of all to
keep Mount Carmel the least best kept secret in the
Bronx! Also, please mark your calendars for a
wonderful event on June 27th, when the school will
embark upon a board fundraiser at Pasquale Rigoletto
Restaurant for A rthur A venue Day! Tickets are $65
per person for tastings and tidbits. There will be nice
items upon which to bid, ranging from gift baskets,
tickets to sports events, and student-created artwork
and service projects! Please find more information
below! Hope to see you all there to keep our school
strong! In the meantime, I wish you a blessed first
week in June and a holy Feast of Corpus Christi!
