DESCRIPTION
The ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2 is a total exhaust safety cabinet, with
vertical laminar downflow and 100% filtered air that is exhausted to the outside. The
ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2 cabinet is designed to assure the
protection of the operator, the environment and products being manipulated.
In the cabinet there is not air reicirculation, so is possible work with agents trated with
volatile toxic chemicals and radionuclides when required as an adjunct to microbiological
research.
Designed and built for application like biological testing and product preparation involving
low to moderate risk agents (biosafety levels 1,2 and 3).
The work area is protected by a vertical laminar downflow in class 100 at a speed of 0.35
m/s, thus assuring the protection of the product from outside contamination or from any
possible turbulence of the air flow on contaminated materials inside the cabinet. The
produced air flow is uniform and unidirectional and it is formed by a number of little parts of
parallel and sterile air that move at the same speed in all points so that a homogeneous
current of air with no turbolences is produced. In a sterilized environment, each polluting
substance in the working area is pushed away by a source of sterilized air. Through
supplementary fan the two flows are aspired and convoyed in the hepa filter and in the
ejection duct to be ejected.
Vertical laminar flow and the ejected laminar flow are filtered by hepa absolute filters,
composed of microfibbers of glass fiber knit with epoxy resin in one rigid frame, tested
M.P.P.S in accordance with C.E.N. 1822, with global efficiency 99.995% class H14 in
class 100 at 0.3 micron for vertical laminar air flow filter, and global efficiency 99.95%
class H13 in class 100 at 0.3 micron for exhaust hepa filter, in accordance with Fed Std
209E (Laser Test Royco 256) or in class ISO 5, in accordance with ISO 14644.1.
The contaminated particles are filtered by the exhaust hepa filter (and on demand by a
carbon filter, too) before being expelled into the environment, through the exhaust system
and the remote blower.
The inlet air flow speed is constant, since all functions are automatically controlled by the
microprocessor and displayed on the controls and programming LCD panel, touch screen
5.7" TFT display (320x240 pixels).
The use of highest quality components, the working methods and the safety either for the
environment or the operator enable the ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2
cabinet to be classified according to the BS 5726 – DIN 12950 – UNI EN 12469 - NSF 49 class II type B2.
Rooms belonging to class II (according to the NSF 49:2002) are different mainly because
of the ratio of volumes of recycled air inside the work area, inside the room and/or outside:
♦
type A1 (30% ejected air inside the room – 70% recycled air). Inflow front speed =
0.38 m/sec. May have positive pressure contaminated ducts and plenum.
♦ type A2 (30% ejected air outside the room – 70% recycled air). Inflow front speed =
0.45 m/sec. Have ducts and plenum under negative pressure.
♦ type B1 (70% ejected air outside the room – 30% recycled air). Inflow front speed =
0.5 m/sec. Contain negative pressure plenum.
♦ type B2 (100% ejected air outside the room). Inflow front speed = 0.51 m/sec.
Does not recirculate air within the cabinet.

In the type B2, 100% filtered air is exhausted to the outside by means of an exhaust
system with remote blower.
ASALAIR BIOHAZARD 1200 ATLANTIC CL. II B2 cabinet has been planned, built and
tested in accordance with UNI EN 12469 “Performance criteria for microbiological
safety cabinets” and CEI EN 61010-1:2001 certificate n° Z1 07 02 36567 025, and
directives EMC (European directive 2004/108/CE Electromagnetic compatibility), EN
61326, 55011, 61000-3-2, 61000-3-3, certificate n° XE 03 03 36567 018 with
omologation by TUV SUD.
It complies with the rules:

THE ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2 CABINET IS DESIGNED TO BE
CONNECT TO AN APPROPRIATE EXHAUST SYSTEM. DON’T USE IT IF NOT
CONNECTED TO AN APPROPRIATE EXHAUST SYSTEM.
The ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2 cabinet, exhaust 1350 m³/h out
of the cabinet, through the exhaust system, so it’s necessary that this quantity of air
be put in the room.
A remote blower, that aspire 100% of the ejected air is REQUIRED for operation of
the ASALAIR BIOHAZARD ATLANTIC 1200 cl. II B2 cabinet.
