Identificazione e distribuzione nei mari italiani di specie non indigene Classe Osteichthyes Ordine Perciformes Upeneus pori Ben Tuvia & Golani, 1989 Famiglia Mullidae SINONIMI RILEVANTI DESCRIZIONE Corpo allungato, anteriormente sub cilindrico, posteriormente piuttosto compresso. Testa conica, muso arrotondato. Un paio di barbigli corti e sottili sotto il mento; opercolo senza spine; bocca terminale orizzontale; piccoli denti villiformi sulle due mascelle e sulla volta boccale (vomero e palatini). Grandi scaglie poco aderenti, da 28 a 30 lungo la linea laterale; scaglie presenti sui preorbitali. COROLOGIA / AFFINITA’ DISTRIBUZIONE ATTUALE Mar Rosso, Oceano Indiano, Mar Mediterraneo. PRIMA SEGNALAZIONE IN MEDITERRANEO Iskenderun, Turchia, 1942 (Kosswig, 1950) PRIMA SEGNALAZIONE IN ITALIA COLORAZIONE Testa e del corpo bruno-rosati, di colore più scuro sotto la linea laterale; una banda longitudinale di colore bruno vivace dal bordo superiore delle aperture branchiali alla base della caudale; una macchia scura a mo di sella dietro la seconda pinna dorsale; la prima pinna dorsale presenta quattro linee e la seconda tre linee formate dall’allineamento di punti bruno-rosso vivo. Pinne pettorali rosa, pinna caudale con tre strette strie oblique rossastre sul lobo superiore e sei o sette brunastre sul lobo inferiore. U. moluccensis presenta una stria orizzontale gialla sul corpo bande scure sul solo lobo superiore. HABITAT Bentonico fino a 50 m su fondi sabbiosi e fangosi. SPECIE IN COMPETIZIONE Mullus spp. IMPATTI DANNI ECOLOGICI La specie compete con le specie endemiche di Mullus e in alcune zone le ha soppiantate DANNI ECONOMICI Catture inferiori di Mullus barbatus. IMPORTANZA PER L’UOMO Commerciale. PARTICOLARI CONDIZIONI AMBIENTALI BANCA DEI CAMPIONI BIOLOGIA Si ciba di piccoli invertebrati (crostacei, policheti) bentonici che trova con i barbigli.
