Cʼè chi sogna di dominare il mondo e chi dedica tutta la vita alla creazione di una spada. E se c'è un sogno a cui
sacrificare tutti se stessi, c'è anche un sogno simile a una tempesta che spazza via migliaia di altri sogni. Non cʼentra la
classe, né lo status, e neppure lʼetà. Per quanto siano irrealizzabili, la gente ama i sogni. Il sogno ci dà forza e ci
tormenta, ci fa vivere e ci uccide. E anche se ci abbandona, le sue ceneri rimangono sempre in fondo al cuore… fino
alla morte. Se si nasce uomini, si dovrebbe desiderare una simile vita. Una vita da martiri spesa in nome di un dio
chiamato "sogno". (Kentaro Miura)
Da sempre viaggiatore che attraversa le geografie umane e terrestri raccontando storie di luoghi e persone di tutto il
mondo, attraverso il suo lavoro Matteo Basilé ha nel tempo dato vita alle proprie visioni, riportando il suo immaginario
in luoghi reali.
Oggi, con Landing, il suo tentativo è invece quello di ricostruire il sogno altrui, quel momento di sospensione e stallo,
lʼultimo paesaggio prima dellʼ“atterraggio”.
Un sogno dentro il sogno dove, seguendo coordinate date dai suoi protagonisti, Basilé raggiunge quei luoghi sognati e
li immortala come in un ultimo photo finish prima del risveglio. Non lʼintero sogno, ma lʼultima porzione di esso, per poi
restituirla al suo “autore” in un estremo gesto di sfida nei confronti del reale.
Non più una regia che inscena una sua visione, ma il racconto di undici sognatori viaggiatori ritratti due volte, prima
quali protagonisti del reale e poi quali creatori dellʼonirico. Come un passeggero che guarda fuori dal finestrino – non è
infatti un caso la scelta del formato circolare - lʼartista vede scorrere davanti a sé i landscapes dei suoi protagonisti
durante quel galleggiamento tra la terra e il cielo, tra un emisfero e lʼaltro; la fase REM, dove in qualsiasi istante una
brusca frenata porrà fine al viaggio.
Lʼartista viaggia per la prima volta in territori a lui sconosciuti, e pur rimanendo fisicamente nella sua terra dʼorigine è a
bordo di uno dei mezzi di trasporto tecnologicamente più evoluti e veloci: la mente umana.
Eʼ testimone di confessioni intime che risvegliano in lui la responsabilità di archiviare e conservare questi diari di
viaggio per una memoria futura.
Nella serata di inaugurazione della mostra, venerdì 18 maggio, Guidi&Schoen ospita inoltre la presentazione
nazionale del nuovo numero di Espoarte.
Espoarte cambia formato, periodicità, grafica. E rinnova i contenuti con nuove rubriche e spazio a speciali,
approfondimenti, dossier, inchieste. Per festeggiare al meglio questa ondata di novità, Espoarte dà vita al progetto
76.LE – ESPOARTE LIMITED EDITION: dieci multipli dʼautore dedicati a 10 artisti la cui storia è legata a quella del
magazine. La Limited Edition sarà confezionata in un apposito packaging personalizzato, contenente la grafica e una
copia del nuovo numero di Espoarte, in distribuzione in edicola e in libreria dal 21 aprile 2012.
Matteo Basilé è nato nel 1974 a Roma. Vive e lavora tra Roma e Bali.

There are those who dream of world domination and who dedicates his life to the creation of a sword. And if
there's a dream to sacrifice all of yourself, there is also a dream like a storm that sweeps away thousands of
other dreams. It's not about class nor status, nor age. No matter how unattainable, people love dreams. The
dream haunts us and gives us strength, kills us and makes us live. And even when it leaves, its ashes remain
at the bottom of the heart ... until death. If men are born, they should want such a life. A life spent as martyrs
in the name of a god named "dream." (Kentaro Miura)
Always a traveller, crossing human and land geographies to tell the stories of places and people all around
the world, through his work Matteo Basilé has in time given life to his visions, carrying his imaginary to real
places.
Today, with LANDING, his attempt is to build someone elseʼs dream, that suspended stall moment, the last
landscape prior to landing. A dream within the dream through which Basilé, following othersʼ directions,
reaches those dreamed places and captures them like in a last photo finish before awakening. Not the entire
dream, but only the last portion of it, in order to return it to its author in an extreme challenge of the real world.
Not only directing the movie of his vision, yet now telling the story - and at the same time, making the portrait
– of eleven dreaming travellers portrayed twice, first as protagonists of the real world and then as creators of
the oneiric.
Like a passenger looking out the window – this justifies the choice of the round-shaped works – the artist
sees the landscapes of his subjects run before him during that time floating between sky and earth, between
one hemisphere and the other; the REM phase, when at any time a sudden brake could end the journey.
The artist travels across unknown territories for the first time, and while physically remaining in his homeland
he is on board of one of the fastest and technologically more evolved means of transportation: the human
mind.
He witnesses intimate confessions that awaken in him the responsibility to archive and preserve these
logbooks for future reference.

On the opening night of the show, Friday the 18 of May, Guidi & Schoen also houses the national
presentation of the new issue of Espoarte.
Espoarte changes format, periodicity, graphics. It renews the contents with new features and more space to
discussions and inquiries. To celebrate all these new elements, Espoarte gives life to the project 76.LE –
ESPOARTE LIMITED EDITION: ten multiples dedicated to 10 artists whose history is tied to that of the
magazine. The Limited Edition multiple will have a special customized packaging and will contain a copy of
the new issue of Espoarte, distributed on newsstands and in bookstores from April 21, 2012.
