welcome aboard.
Tempus fugit dicevano i latini. L’estate sembra già un ricordo
lontano, e le feste di Natale, San Silvestro e l’inizio del nuovo
Anno corrono verso di noi. Sono qui. E portano con sé, oltre
alle speranze di giorni migliori, più sereni e fortunati, anche la
voglia di tornare in vacanza, magari di sdraiarsi al sole in riva a
uno splendido mare oppure di ritrovarsi in vetta a montagne
imbiancate di neve e sciare.
è quel che vi proponiamo in questo numero del nostro Magazine. Lo Yucatan, meravigliose spiagge messicane e affascinanti luoghi archeologici sono la nostra copertina, un vero
incanto della natura e dell’opera dell’uomo, come la bellissima
Isla Mujeres, l’isola delle donne, che è proprio davanti alla penisola messicana, cullata dal Mar dei Caraibi. Dall’altra parte
del mondo, lo Sri Lanka, perla asiatica nell’Oceano Indiano,
culla di una civiltà antica e affascinante, circondata da un mare
che non fa rimpiangere quello delle vicine Maldive.
Per chi invece ai grandi caldi preferisce il freddo della montagna, proponiamo la nostra piccola e bellissima Val d’Aosta,
una regione che ha “fatto la Storia”, attraversata da Annibale e
Napoleone, ora punteggiata da stazioni sciistische e percorsa
da piste per tutti i gusti.
Tantissimi auguri a tutti Voi, cari passeggeri, e grazie ancora
per aver scelto di volare con la nostra compagnia.

Tempus fugit said the Latins. Summer already seems a distant memory, and the Christmas holidays, New Year's Eve
and the start of the new year running towards us. They are
here. Bringing with them, in addition to hopes for better
days, more serene and lucky, also the desire to go on vacation, maybe to lie in the sun on the shores of a wonderful sea
or to find oneself on top of snow-capped mountain skiing.
It is just what we propose in this issue of our magazine. Yucatan, with beautiful Mexican beaches and fascinating archaeological sites are on our cover, real beauty of nature
and of man's work, like the beautiful Isla Mujeres, the Island
of Women, which is right in front of the Mexican peninsula,
lulled by the Caribbean Sea. On the other side of the world,
Sri Lanka, Asian pearl in the Indian Ocean, the cradle of an
ancient and fascinating civilization, surrounded by a sea that
is as good as the Maldives.
For those who prefer the cold of the mountains to great
heat, we offer our small and beautiful Val d'Aosta, a region
that has "made history", crossed by Hannibal and Napoleon, now dotted with ski stations and crossed by pistes for
all tastes.

sconosciuti raccolti sulle montagne dell’Himalaya servendosi del test del Dna. Lo
studio ha confermato una totale corrispondenza genetica con un campione della
mascella di un orso polare della Norvegia, risalente ad almeno 40 mila anni fa.
Una scoperta che stravolge l’immaginario collettivo: lo Yeti smette di essere una
creatura leggendaria.

Mettete insieme la passione per la fotografia e per gli scacchi e
avrete come risultato un lavoro unico, come Chess Portraits, da
poco realizzato dal fotografo Francesco Ridolfi. Nove mesi per dare
vita – questa volta è davvero il caso di dirlo – ai personaggi degli
scacchi. L’idea nasce da un ambizioso progetto: immortalare le sei
figure della scacchiera e i suoi due volti, il bianco e il nero, per avere
l’opportunità di indagare i lati più oscuri della psiche e gli aspetti
contrapposti che spesso convivono in ognuno di noi. Secondo Ridolfi, infatti, gli scacchi propongono una serie di archetipi con i quali
confrontarsi per far emergere le diverse sfaccettature dell’animo
umano e del carattere.

e lo pensano, i messicani.
Parole semplici e dolci che
contribuiscono a fare di questo splendido paese una destinazione molto
amata. è bello il Messico, capace di
incantare per la sua gente, il mare e
la storia, la natura e la gastronomia. E
tante altre cose ancora. A cominciare
dall’atmosfera straordinaria della capitale, Mexico City, metropoli dalle forti
emozioni, che presenta con apparente semplicità luoghi che sembrano in
contrasto fra loro. Come la Basilica de
Guadalupe e il mercato delle Streghe
di Sonora, un monumento alla Fede
e un altro alla superstizione. E non
lontano, le meraviglie di Teotihuacán,
il più grande sito archeologico precolombiano del Nord America.
La storia gloriosa dei Maya e degli
Aztechi si ritrova ovunque in Messico.
Anche nello splendore dello Yucatan,
dove ci sono le spiagge più belle di tutto il paese e tre eccezionali siti Maya:
Tulum, Uxmal e Chichen Itza. Luoghi
straordinari, come quello che la poesia Maya chiamava Sian Ka’An, “il posto dove nasce il cielo”: l’Unesco l’ha

più suggestive è quella degli scarafaggi addobbati con strass
attaccati sul dorso. Usanza antica, un tempo considerata
regalo di fidanzamento, è anche proposta come souvenir e
portafortuna, nonostante le proteste degli animalisti. Vengono consegnati in una piccola scatola con fori per respirare e pezzetti di sughero come nutrimento. E poi Cancun,
capitale della Dolce Vita del Messico affacciato sui Caraibi
messicani non si può trascurare. E’ la “Rimini Rimini” del
Caribe dove un desiderio, qualunque sia, viene esaudito.
Da qui parte La Riviera Maya, corridoio spettacolare fra
Cancun e Tulum, 130 chilometri di spiagge meravigliose,
ecosistemi ancora quasi intatti, scarso affollamento, resort
dove abbinare sole, mare, relax e trattamenti di bellezza. E
ovunque resiste la tradizione antica del tramonto: è l’ora
del Margarita davanti al mare, magari con una rovina Maya
alle spalle. Sbocconcellando qualche panuchos, tortille
aperte con carne, formaggio, verdure. Se poi i Margarita
diventano due o tre, tutto sembra più dolce e lieve. E’ il

Mexicans. Simple and kind words that add to making this wonderful country a much loved destination.
Mexico is beautiful, able to charm through its people, its sea
and history, its nature and food. It doesn’t stop here. To begin
with, the extraordinary atmosphere of the capital, Mexico City, a
metropolis with strong feeling, presenting with such ease places
that appear contrasting to each other. Such as the Basilica de
Guadalupe and the market of the Witches of Sonora, one a
monument to faith and the other to superstition. And not far, the
wonders of Teotihuacàn, the biggest pre-Colombian archaeological site of North America.
But what can be seen everywhere in Mexico, is the glorious
history of the Maya and the Aztecs. Even in the splendid Yucatan, where there are the most beautiful beaches along with
three exceptional Mayan sites: Tulum, Uxmal and Chichen Itza.
Extraordinary places, like the one from the Mayan poem called
Sian Ka'an, "the place where the sky is born": Unesco declared
it a World Heritage Site and today – guided tour available – it
is an ecosystem of tropical forests and lagoons populated by
monkeys and jaguars, crocodiles and iguanas. A stone's throw
from Tulum, between the turquoise sea and archeology, few
places in the world excite as does Chichen Itza. An archaeological mystery site not yet fully deciphered, includes remains of hu-

man sacrifices and the game pelota. And then there is the ray
of sun which gives life to a snake, that does not exist but that is
seen sliding down the stairway of the Castillo, the beautiful pyramid of Kukulkan. There is also the extravagances of the market
in Merida, full of curious proposals. Among these, one of the
most striking is that of cockroaches decorated with rhinestones
attached to their back. An ancient custom, once regarded as an
engagement present, it is also proposed as souvenirs and lucky
charms, despite protests from animal rights activists. They are
sold in a small box with holes for air and bits of cork as food for
the cockroaches. Then there is Cancun, the capital of La Dolce

You get to a few tens of meters from
the first column before the flamingos of
Rio Lagartos, of orange-red feathers, fly
away frightened. Amazing show, hundreds of birds that make a colorful stain

sharks in Holbox. Plankton-rich waters
where you can swim with these giant,

Vita, not to be overlooked. It is the Rimini
of the Caribbean, where a wish, whatever
it may be, is fulfilled. The Riviera Maya begins from here, a spectacular corridor between Cancun and Tulum, 130 kilometers
of beaches, with still almost intact ecosystems, few crowds, a resort where you can
combine sun, sea, relaxation and beauty
treatments. Everywhere, remains the ancient tradition of the sunset as the time
for Margaritas in front of the sea, perhaps
with a Mayan ruin behind. Munching on
some panuchos; open tortillas with meat,
cheese, and vegetables. Then, if the Margaritas become two or three, everything

La Storia racconta altro. Isla Mujeres
deve questo nome alle statue fem-
minili ritrovate nei pressi del tempio
intitolato a Ixchel, la dea della fecondità, a cui era dedicata perché la
punta sud dell'isola è la prima parte
del territorio messicano illuminata
dai raggi solari al mattino. Ancora
il sole, ancora le magie della natura.
Isla Mujeres è di fronte a Cancun, in
questo magico Caribe messicano
che sa di allegria e meraviglie, dove
si può vivere l’esperienza indimenticabile di nuotare con i delfini. Addirittura è possibile farsi trascinare attaccandosi alla pinna dorsale e farsi
praticamente portare da loro, con
il muso che spinge sotto la pianta
dei piedi. E ancora, la spiaggia delle
tartarughe, altra grandissima emozione e, per i patiti dello shopping,
un centro urbano affollato di negozi.

l ragazzo che viene dalla terra di John Wayne ne ha
fatta di strada, nella vita privata e in quella professionale. Ashton Kutcher, chiacchierato ex marito di
Demi Moore, è il protagonista del nuovo e atteso film Jobs
di Joshua Michael Stern, sul magnate della Apple. «L’idea di
vestire i suoi panni mi terrorizzava – ha detto Kutcher – ho poi
deciso di accettare quella parte per diverse ragioni: amo quello che
il film vuole rappresentare. Credo che nello stato in cui si trova l’economia globale in questo momento, ispirare i giovani a costruire
qualcosa sia fondamentale. Ho voluto ricordare agli imprenditori
che Steve Jobs non è stato sempre “Steve Jobs”, ha lottato, ha fallito e ha sempre rigorosamente perseverato per costruire qualcosa di
grande per migliorare la vita delle persone».
Ashton Kutcher non fa parte della generazione di quei
ragazzini di Hollywood che si fanno di party, alcool, droghe e stress e che poi danno i numeri, ma di quella che
sembra strappata dall'America comune, quella delle baie e
dei campi, dei ragazzi muscolosi e sportivi e delle ragazze
sempre sorridenti e candide. Nessuno gli toglierà mai di
dosso l'aria da bravo ragazzo. È uno degli attori più superpagati del momento, particolarmente ruggente nelle commedie romantiche. Irrecuperabile mattatore del piccolo
schermo, non si capisce se conquista di più per la risata
che suscita nello spettatore o per la bellezza.
Nato nello stato dello Iowa, a 13 anni tenta il suicidio. Nel
1997, a 19 anni, abbandona gli studi di Ingegneria Biochimica per iniziare la carriera di modello. Dopo aver vinto il
concorso Fresh Faces of Iowa, parte dritto a NYC per un
ingaggio che lo porterà a sfilare prima a Milano, poi a Parigi per stilisti del calibro di Versace, Calvin Klein e Tommy Hilfiger. Come Heidi Klum, Sienna Miller e Lindsay
Lohan, fa parte delle celebrità che in passato hanno posato
per il famoso marchio di abbigliamento americano Abercrombie & Fitch. La moda non gli basta. Grazie al successo nella serie comica televisiva That'70s Show (1998-2006)
nei panni del bello e stupido, debutta sul grande schermo
nel 1999 con Coming Soon. Da allora viene ingaggiato per
una serie di commedie comico-romantiche (Fatti, strafatti
e strafighe, La figlia del mio capo, Una scatenata dozzina con
Steve Martin). Con il film cult The Butterfly Effect, cambia
personaggio: Joshua è un universitario che è stato vittima
di frequenti e misteriose amnesie e che si ritrova assurdamente a viaggiare nel passato, grazie alla lettura dei suoi
diari. Insieme alla popolarità arrivano anche le donne,
tutte attrici (January Jones, Ashley Scott, Monet Mazur).
Continuano le pellicole di successo, ma a dare la fama ad
Ashton è il matrimonio con la star degli anni ’90 Demi
Moore. Dopo essere stata sposata 13 anni con Bruce Willis, Demi convola in seconde nozze con Ashton Kutcher,
di 16 anni più giovane di lei, il 24 Settembre del 2005. Lei

romantic comedies (Dude, Where's My Car, My Boss's Daughter, Cheaper by the Dozen with Steve Martin). With the cult film
The Butterfly Effect he changes character: Joshua is a university
student who was the victim of frequent and mysterious amnesia
and finds himself absurdly travelling into the past through the
reading of his diaries.
Along with the popularity came women, all of which actresses
(January Jones, Ashley Scott, Monet Mazur). Successful films
continue, but giving fame to Ashton is his marriage to the 90’s
star Demi Moore. After being married 13 years with Bruce Willis,
Demi enters in a second marriage with Ashton Kutcher, 15 years
her junior, on 24th September 2005. She is 42 years old, he is 25.
In 2011 the long separation begins between the two. Current
girlfriend Mila Kunis has recently complained in tabloids, while
his ex-wife looks sad. He certainly wins the distance challenge!

egalomani, esagerati, eccentrici e grandiosi. Gli aggettivi celebrativi del vocabolario
non bastano a descrivere i loro concerti.
Tanti sinonimi per una band che non
conosce restrizioni di genere. Tanti sinonimi per dire Muse. Svolte electrodance alla Daft Punk, deliri visionari
epico-sinfonici, brani strappalacrime
per donzelle sognanti. L’equilibrio non è
contemplato. Lo era nei primi album. Lo
era in Showbiz del 1999. Lo era in Origin
of Symmetry del 2001. Lavori innovativi in grado di esaltare l’estetica di ogni
nota e renderla unica. Il virtuosismo si
faceva spazio in brani sublimi, ricercati,
estremamente articolati ed estremamente comprensibili. E poi, cosa succede?
Sembra che nulla basti più a Bellamy
(frontman del gruppo) e i suoi. Ogni
uscita deve essere trasgressione, ogni
passo esagerazione, difficilmente misurabile con il metro del buon gusto.
Matt Bellamy dichiara, addirittura,
di pagare tangenti per i fuochi d’artificio che sovrastano il palco dello
Stadio Olimpico di Roma il 6 luglio
scorso. Ma è sempre il pubblico che
vince, quello di qualsiasi età, quello che ascolta la musica colta, quello
che ascolta il metal e quello che guarda Twilight. Il richiamo per i fan ad
ogni concerto-evento (il tour è ricco
di effetti speciali e sfrutta palloni aerostatici che ricordano tanto i maiali
volanti di pinkfloydiana memoria) del
trio britannico è sempre fortissimo
e l’emozione è assicurata nonostante
l’ultimo disco non sia da annoverare
tra i “memorabili”. I Muse sono, a di-
spetto di ogni critica, un trio perfetto,
rodato da quasi due decadi di percorso comune, capaci di stupire. Avrebbero potuto accontentarsi, avendo
trovato il segreto del successo, quello
vero, da superstar. Avrebbero potuto
ripeterlo all’infinito senza mai annoiare. I concerti li avrebbero esauriti
lo stesso, i dischi li avrebbero venduti
a milioni. Invece, ad ogni loro uscita,
mirano sempre più in alto. Apprezziamo la volontà di non fermarsi mai, di
continuare a stupire, nella speranza
che riescano a capire che il commercio è fondamentale nella musica, ma
è importante non perdere mai il fine
fondamentale: creare arte con le note,
evitando di diventare irreversibilmente portabandiera del kitsch-rock.
E le vere superstar questo lo sanno.

vocabulary are not enough to describe
their concerts. Many are the synonyms
for a band that knows no genre restrictions. Many synonyms to say Muse.
Electro dance in the style of Daft Punk,
visionary delirious epic symphonies,
tear-jerking songs for young girl dreamers. The balance is not contemplated. It
was in the first albums. It was in Showbiz
of 1999. It was in The Origin of Symmetry
in 2001.
Innovative pieces manage to enhance
the aesthetics of every note to make
them unique. The virtuosity made its
way in sublime songs, sophisticated,
extremely articulate and extremely
comprehensible. And then, what hap-

uei grandi occhi neri e quel viso particolare non si dimenticano facilmente. Il suo
debutto è avvenuto dieci anni fa in un film
di Mimmo Calopresti, La felicità non costa niente. Da
allora Valeria Solarino ha prestato il volto a personaggi controversi, differenti, che le hanno sempre
permesso di liberarsi dalle sue timidezze. «Non so per
quale ragione faccio l’attrice ma questo lavoro mi permette
di vivere fino in fondo le emozioni, cosa che nella vita non
accade mai. Il set è liberatorio perché attraverso il filtro di
un’altra identità puoi dare sfogo a ciò che hai represso nella
tua vita». Valeria è un mix di contaminazioni: è nata
in Venezuela, ha trascorso l’infanzia in Sicilia e poi

(Happiness Costs Nothing). Since then, Valeria Solarino has
been the face of controversial characters, different characters, that have always allowed her to become free of her shyness. «I do not know why I'm an actress but this job allows
me to live emotions to the full, something that never happens in life. Being on the set is liberating because through
the filter of another identity you can give vent to what you
have repressed in your life». Valeria is
a mix of cultures: born in Venezuela,

Il padel nasce negli anni ’70 in Messico
ad opera di un facoltoso signorotto che
decise di allietare le sue giornate giocando a tennis. Il problema sorse nel
momento in cui si rese conto delle dimensioni del campo, troppo piccolo per
praticare lo “sport dei signori”. Per rimediare alla mancanza tecnica fu realizzato un campo più stretto, circondato da
una combinazione di pareti in cemento
e rete metallica.
A partire dagli anni ’80 il padel iniziò
ad essere praticato anche in Spagna,
Argentina, Francia, USA e Brasile. E fu
proprio in terra spagnola che lo sport riscontrò un grande successo di pubblico:
il principe di Hohanlohe fece costruire
all’interno di un lussuoso hotel di Mar-
bella un campo da padel, dando così il
via alla mania della racchetta forata.
La disciplina rimase fino agli anni ’80 uno
sport per ricchi, finchè, dopo aver preso
piede negli Stati Uniti, si diffuse a macchia d’olio in tutto il territorio.
In Italia nel 1991 nacque la Federazione
Italiana Gioco Padel (F.I.G.P.) ad opera di
alcuni appassionati dello sport che, negli anni, riuscirono a divulgarlo in tutto
mondo. La sua presentazione ufficiale
avvenne lo stesso anno presso lo spazio
Sport Show della Fiera di Bologna, dove
fu annunciato anche il primo Campione
Italiano: Gianluca Baldi.

A
mate tutti gli sport da racchetta e non sapete quale praticare? Il paddle è la scelta
giusta. Ci sono elementi del tennis, dello
squash e del racquetball, un insieme praticamente
perfetto.
La racchetta è una “pagaia” forata, più leggera rispetto a una Babolat o una Wilson, lunga 45-50 cm;
le palle sono invece le stesse del tennis.
Il padel, a differenza dello “sport dei nobili”, si pratica in doppio. A dividere i quattro giocatori una parete di cristallo – la prima fu inaugurata nel ’94 in Italia
– così da consentire le riprese televisive da ogni angolazione. Simile allo sport dei campionissimi ATP,
il padel ha in comune con il tennis numerose regole.
Per conquistare punti occorre evitare di commettere
poche infrazioni: far rimbalzare la palla due volte sul
campo; colpire la palla al volo; direzionare la palla
verso le maglie o il pavimento del campo avversario; toccare il giocatore con
la palla; colpire le pareti del campo avversario o la maglia metallica; toccare
più volte la palla prima di restituirla.
I campioni di padel tennis non sono
ancora celebri al pari degli ormai noti
Nadal, Federer e Djokovic, ma questa
pratica sportiva sta lentamente conquistando il pubblico italiano. Nella
classifica FIT occupano i primi posti

HISTORY

gentleman who decided to
brighten his days playing
tennis. The problem arose
when he realised that the size
of his field was too small to enjoy
the "gentleman’s sport." To fix this technical difficulty he created a more narrow field, surrounded by a
combination of concrete walls and wire nets.
Since the 80’s, paddle began to be played in Spain, Argentina, France, USA and Brazil. So it was on Spanish
soil that this sport was matched by a great public suc-

cess: the prince of Hohanlohe built a golf puddle in a luxurious
hotel in Marbella, starting with it the craze of the holed rackets.
Until the 80's this remained a sport for the rich, until, after taking off in the United States, it spread like wildfire throughout
the territory. In Italy in 1991 the Italian Federation of Paddle
(Federazione Italiana Gioco Paddle - F.I.G.P.) was born, created
by sports enthusiasts who, over the years, were able to spread
it throughout the world. The official presentation of paddle
took place the same year at the Sport Show in Bologna, where
they also announced the first Italian Champion: Gianluca Baldi.
To date, the paddle follows the rules drawn up by the Italian
National Olympic Committee (Comitato Olimpico Nazionale
Italiano - C.O.N.I.)

i è distinta per prestigio e bellezza la scuderia di David Murray – ben 68 vittorie in dieci stagioni –, pilota e fondatore
della casa.
Nel 1951 Murray occorse in un gravoso incidente durante le prove
del Gran Premio di Germania. Dopo questo episodio il pilota decise di passare nelle retrovie, abbandonando le piste e fondando la
Ecurie Ecosse, la celebre casa scozzese che avrebbe dato vita, di lì a

he team of David Murray stands out thanks to
its prestige and beauty – a great 68 wins in ten
seasons - pilot and founder of the house.
In 1951 Murray was involved in a severe accident whilst
practicing for the German Grand Prix. After this episode the pilot decided to move to the back stages,
leaving the tracks and founding the famous brand that
gave life, a little later, to cars that have made the brand
famous all over the world.
From December 1st , Bonhams is auctioning those cars
that have made history for the brand. Eight models paraded on the tracks with the Ecurie colors: the XK120
Roadster from 1952, the 1953 C-Type and the D-Type of
1953, the Jaguar-Tojeiro of '59, the Cooper T49 Mona-
Padded fabric roof, separable side windows, doors barchettastyle without external handles. These are the unmistakable details of the Jaguar XK120. Peculiarities of the car a flat windshield
of two pieces, embedded on a frame directly integrated to the
body of the car. The doors of the most sought after convertible
are distinguished by a coating of burl wood, whilst the classic
roadster models are characterised by being covered in total leather. Further details are the wheels: rear wheels are faired to
be removable and give the car a more aerodynamic look. An
unforgettable car, not only for the undeniable beauty, but especially for the successes achieved. It was on August 30th 1949 that
Leslie Johnson, on board of this road car, crossed the finish line
of the One-Hour Production Car Race, being the first of many
successes.

ricordano quelli di Charles Perrault. Tra le sue fiabe la più famosa
è di sicuro quella che narra la storia di Barbablù, uomo ricco ma
dall’aspetto terribile a causa di un’insolita barba color blu.

Among the most famous tales of the
Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Andersen, we remember those of Charles
Perrault. Of all his fairy tales the most
famous is certainly the one that tells the
story of Bluebeard, a rich but ugly looking man due to unusual blue-colored
beard.
Over the years many have tried to guess
who was behind the character of Bluebeard, convinced that inspiring the
French writer was an event that actually happened. Some have speculated
it might be Henry VIII, the English king
who was married six times, others Conomor, a character who, according to Bre-
ton legend, got rid of his many wives and
children to escape a tragic fate. There
are those who have even interpreted
this story as a transfiguration of reality,
matching the figure of the protagonist
with the Count Gilles de Rais, French nobleman of the fifteenth century convicted of raping and killing a large number
of children lured from the poor people.
There remains doubt on if it is a mere
conjecture, but that there is some truth
in the story of Perrault. One thing is certain: Bluebeard continues to be talked
about. There are still many wondering if
the story is bears a moral or hides a certain misogyny from the author.

C’era una volta un uomo la cui barba color blu lo rendeva ripugnante agli occhi delle donne. Il suo nome era Barbablù. Dopo
tanto cercare l’uomo si sposò. La vita matrimoniale procedeva
tranquillamente fino a quando Barbablù
non dovette partire. Prima di andar via
affidò alla consorte un mazzo di chiavi
proibendole di aprire una sola porta
della casa. La donna non riuscì a contenere la sua
curiosità e quando usò la chiave proibita si trovò di
fronte a una serie di corpi femminili privi di vita. Al suo
ritorno Barbablù decise di punire la curiosità della moglie
con la morte, non riuscendo però nel suo intento: fu lui ad essere
ucciso dai fratelli della donna.

Married life proceeded well until Bluebeard had to depart. Before leaving he
gave to his wife a set of keys forbidding
her to open only one door of the house.
The woman could not contain her curiosity and when she used the prohibited
key she found a series of lifeless women’s
bodies. On his return Bluebeard decided
to punish the curiosity of his wife with
death. However, failing in his attempt he
was killed by the brothers of the woman.

hanno chiamata per secoli l’isola dell’Eden, e non esageravano. Per la rappresentazione
del Paradiso non si sbaglierebbe a scegliere la spiaggia di Tangalle, 200 chilometri a sud di Colombo, la capitale
dello Sri Lanka. Chi l’ha voluta così

ha usato un compasso per disegnare
la baia e poi ha distribuito con equità
scogli e sabbia, un talco bianco e sottile che l’oceano tinge di rosa a ogni
carezza. L’acqua è quella delle vicine
Maldive: sembra non esistere quando
si frange sulla riva e dopo qualche pas-
so diventa celeste, e poi azzurra, verde, blu, in un arcobaleno di colori che
si rincorrono fin dove arriva lo sguardo. E oltre la polvere rosa della sabbia,
è la terra ad offrire un altro incanto:
lo sfavillio dei verdi che incoronano la
baia con una cornice di palme e pian-
te. Una meraviglia che sarebbe piaciuta
a Gauguin e avrebbe fatto impazzire la
sua tavolozza.
Paradiso, certo, ma frequentato anche
dal Diavolo. Qui si balla ancora con i
demoni, per consentire a chi passeggia lungo le spiagge dell’Eden di vivere
con serenità. Mal di testa, mal di pancia, fratture, tutto si cura con un’antica
danza tribale affidata a stregoni potentissimi e ricchi, i soli capaci di controllare i malefici degli spiriti cattivi. I
diavoli sono 18, uno per ogni malanno.
Lo Sri Lanka è isola di riti antichi e di
semplici quotidianità, dove si vive con
poco e di poco. Il pesce quasi salta da
solo nelle reti. E per non stancarsi a
stare in piedi e riuscire a far abboccare
prede più grosse, i giovanotti della costa sud hanno inventato strani trespoli
con sgabello che piantano in mezzo al
mare e sui quali restano seduti per ore.
Amano l’equilibrismo. Perché sono
anche capaci di affrontare il vuoto
passeggiando su sottilissime funi che
collegano una palma all’altra. E’ il sistema che si usa per raccogliere i cocchi
dai quali si ricava il toddy, un liquido
dolce e lattiginoso con cui si ottiene,
attraverso successive fermentazioni,
il micidiale arrack, un alcol potente e
bevutissimo.
Un Oriente semplice e accogliente,
con nell’aria il profumo dolce e aspro
del curry, gli odori affannosi del pesce
fatto seccare, l’aroma stuzzicante del
tea cresciuto sulle montagne dell’isola. C’è una natura splendida e violenta,
con farfalle grandi come una mano,
scoiattoli che saltellano fra gli alberi e
le terrazze delle stanze, iguane robuste come piccoli dinosauri. E laggiù, il
mare, silenzioso o custode di terribili
tempeste. Lo sanno bene i marinai di
tutta questa costa, da Galle a Weligama, fino alla lontana Tangalle: quando
venti e correnti ingrossano le onde, la
leggenda dei marinai dello Sri Lanka
racconta che tornano a terra tutti gli
uomini che hanno perso la vita nell’Oceano Indiano. Possono essere spiriti
buoni o cattivi, possono portare protezione o disgrazie.
Se proprio si ha voglia di fare movimento, c’è un discreto right point per
i surfisti. Chi cavalca le tavole si ritro-
va da Ram, Ramyadava, proprietario
di una spartana guesthouse a Midigama, costruita proprio di fronte alla
migliore onda di tutta l’isola. Più per
l’atmosfera che per le reliquie, merita
una visita il Tempio del Dente, Dalada
Maligawa, che si trova a Kandy. Chiuso in uno scrigno d’oro, è conservato
qui un canino di Buddha, insieme a
una sua ciotola usata per l’elemosina.
Pellegrini vestiti di bianco arrivano
da ogni parte dell’isola e le cerimonie
si susseguono ogni giorno. E Sigiriya,
stupefacente formazione rocciosa con
pareti affrescate e una vista straordinaria. Luogo unico, protetto dall’Unesco.

or centuries they called it the island of Eden, and they
did not exaggerate. For the set of Paradise it would
not be wrong to choose the beach in Tangalle, 200
kilometers south of Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. Who
has willed it so used a compass to draw the bay and then
distributed evenly rocks and sand, a thin white sand that
the ocean turns pink with every caress. The water is like the
nearby Maldives, it does not seem to exist where it breaks
on the shore and only after a few steps it becomes blue, then
azure, green, blue, a rainbow of colors that run as far as the
eye can see. Over the powder thin pink sand, the land is to
offer another enchantment: the sparkling of green framing
the bay with a setting of palm trees and plants. A beauty that
driven wild Gauguin and his palette.
Heaven, of course, but also frequented by the Devil. Here
they still dance with demons, to allow those who walk along
the beaches of Eden to live in serenity. Headache, stomach
ache, fractures, all is cured with an ancient tribal dance given
by powerful and rich sorcerers, the only ones capable of
controlling the bad of evil spirits. The devils are 18, one for
each illness.
Sri Lanka is an island of ancient rituals and simple everyday
life, where you live with little. The fish jump almost alone in
to the nets. Not get tired standing up and to be able to get
bigger prey, the young men of the south coast have invented
strange stools which they plant in the sea and on which they sit
for hours. They love balancing acts. They are also capable of
facing the void walking on thin ropes that connect one palm to
another. This is the way they use to collect the coconuts from
which they get toddy, a sweet and milky liquid, the deadly
arrack, which is obtained through successive fermentations, a
popular powerful alcohol.
A simple and welcoming east, air with the smell of sweet and
sour curry, the smell of fish dried in gasps, the tantalizing
aroma of the tea grown in the mountains
of the island. There is a beautiful and
violent nature, with butterflies as big as
a hand, squirrels frolicking among the
trees and room terraces, large iguanas
like small dinosaurs. Then, the sea,
quiet guardian of terrible storms. The
sailors of the entire coast know this well,
from Galle to Weligama, to the distant
Tangalle, when winds and currents
swell waves, the legend of the sailors
of Sri Lanka says that all the men who
lost their lives in Indian Ocean return to
the ground. Their spirits can be good or
bad, can lead protection or misfortunes.

Tea is the heart of Sri Lanka, since back when it was
called Ceylon. It is the second largest producer in the
world and the quality is very high. It is spectacular
to visit the hills of tea and a plantation. The Hill
County is a virtually uninterrupted plantation:

ici Val d'Aosta e pensi subito a una magnifica pista
da sci orlata di abeti. È così naturalmente, perché
questo è puro territorio alpino, il luogo dove svettano imperiose le cime del Bianco e del Rosa, ma la Val d’Aosta è anche altro.
Intanto la valle, e Aosta in particolare, è ricca di storia. È qui
che si aprono i due grandi passi alpini, il Piccolo e il Gran
San Bernardo, che prima dell'inaugurazione del traforo del
Monte Bianco costituivano le uniche vie di comunicazione
fra l'Europa occidentale e l'Italia. Qui è passato Annibale coi
suoi elefanti, qui è passato Carlo Magno per andare a assediare la Pavia longobarda di Desiderio, qui è passato Napoleone
durante la campagna d'Italia. Aosta, del resto, è il prodotto
del genio pratico dei romani che, come si sa, non avevano
bisogno di molto tempo per capire quale importanza strategica avesse un dato luogo. I legionari di Augusto, nel 25 a. C,
hanno così dato vita ad Aosta, col nome di Augusta Praetoria,

C’è un luogo magico in Val d’Aosta, un luogo che bisbiglia la lingua strana degli elfi e degli gnomi. È un ruscello
dall’incredibile color turchese dove ogni cosa, foglia, legno o pietra, se immersa in quest’acqua cristallina perde il
proprio colore per assumere una tonalità diafana da mondo delle fate. La ragione di questa meraviglia è un minerale, la woodwardite, che dalla sorgente più in alto scende
depositandosi sul letto del ruscello più a valle. La passeggiata che si compie per arrivarci è bellissima. Si percorre
un’antica strada selciata immersa nel bosco e orlata di rododendri e muschio.

tutt’intorno, stagliandosi contro le cime innevate, si inerpicano
verso il cielo torri, castelli e fortificazioni. Fra i più belli il castello di Fénis, una struttura imponente che testimonia l’altissimo
livello raggiunto dall'architettura militare del Trecento, e il castello di Ussel, nei pressi di Châtillon.

There is a magical place in the Aosta Valley, a place
that whispers the strange language of elves and
gnomes. It is an incredible turquoise stream where
everything, leafs, wood or stone, when immersed in
this crystal water loses its color to take on a translucent shade from the world of the fairies. The reason for
this wonder is a mineral, the woodwardite, that from
the spring higher up travels down stream settling on
the bed of the creek. The walk to get there is beautiful. It is a walk along an old paved road surrounded
by forest and fringed with rhododendrons and musk.

ou name Val d'Aosta and immediately a magnificent ski
slope fringed with fir trees comes to mind. Of course it
is so, because this is pure Alpine region, the place where
the towering peaks of the imperious Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa
dominate, but Val d'Aosta is also something else.
To begin, the valley, Aosta, in particular, is rich in history. This is
where the two big mountain passes open up, the Small and the
Great St. Bernard Pass, which before the opening of the Mont
Blanc tunnel were the only means of communication between
Western Europe and Italy. Hannibal with his elephants passed
this way, Charlemagne too, to go to besiege Pavia of Lombard
from Desiderio, and also Napoleon during the Italian campaign.
Aosta, to add, is a product of the practical genius of the Romans
who, as we know, did not need much time to figure out what had

original foundation planting with thistle, decumano and subdivisions at right angles of the neighborhoods. As soon as you enter
the territory of Aosta it is immediately clear that here the Middle
Ages have never gone. On the mountains all around, like silhouetted against the snow-capped peaks towers, castles and fortifications climb up into the sky. Among the most beautiful is Fénis
Castle, an imposing structure that bears witness to the high level
of military architecture undertaken in the fourteenth century, and
the castle of Ussel, near Châtillon.

Mondare i carciofi eliminando le foglie esterne più dure e buona parte del gambo
(lasciare 2-3 cm). Prendendo il carciofo proprio per
il gambo, premere e battere sul piano da lavoro, in
modo da far aprire le foglie come una rosa spanata.
Mettere il carciofo pulito in una terrina con acqua
fredda, ghiaccio e succo di limone: lasciare in ammollo per almeno 1 ora. Scolare e asciugare bene

ossidino, immergere i carciofi appena puliti in una ciotola d’acqua
e del limone a spicchi.

delicatezza. Salare, impepare e condire internamente con prezzemolo ben
tritato. Scaldare abbondante olio in
un tegame a bordi alti, friggere i carciofi sino a quando diventano dorati.
Durante la frittura girare con una certa frequenza. Lasciare scolare l’olio in
eccesso su della carta assorbente da
cucina e servite caldi.

Peel the artichokes by removing the tough outer leaves and a
good part of the stem (leave 2-3 cm). Taking the artichoke at
the stem, press and tap on the work surface, so as to open the
leaves like an opened rose.
Put the cleaned artichokes in a bowl with cold water, ice and
lemon juice: soak for at least 1 hour. Drain and dry well with
the aid of a cotton cloth. Open further the leaves, always being careful. Season and salt and fill the internal part with finely
chopped parsley. Heat plenty of oil in a pan with high sides,
fry the artichokes until they become golden brown. During frying turn on a frequent basis. Drain the excess oil on absorbent
kitchen paper and serve hot.
This recipe is one of the traditional Jewish-Roman dishes, the
best place to eat it is definitely the Roman ghetto: in Via del
Portico d'Ottavia are the best restaurants!

ensando alla città eterna le prime immagini che scorrono davanti agli occhi sono le bellezze architettoniche e paesaggistiche che hanno reso Roma indimenticabile. Il Colosseo, Fontana di Trevi, Piazza di Spagna e
San Pietro sono solo alcuni dei monumenti più celebri della
città, ma c’è un elemento in particolare per cui la Capitale si
contraddistingue: le sue strade lastricate di sanpietrini, blocchetti di roccia eruttiva che percorrono per chilometri le vie
dei sette colli.
Oggi turisti, collezionisti e amanti della città eterna possono

in pochissimo un fenomeno di vendite: acquistato in un’asta agguerrita negli USA da Atria, scala le
classifiche e i suoi diritti vengono
venduti in 25 paesi. In Italia se lo
aggiudica Garzanti: i lettori lo adorano, la Warner Bros sta lavorando alla trasposizione cinematografica. In qualche modo viene
in mente il nostrano Tre metri sopra il cielo; anche qui la storia è
quella di due poco più che adolescenti. La storia è spostata oltreoceano, ma il pathos adolescenziale è il medesimo. Due ragazzi
americani, lui sbagliato, lei persa. Le emozioni sono esasperate,
folli, immature e urlate come tutte le emozioni dei ragazzi. Sentimenti facili, strillati, incontenibili, si muovono velocemente sulla
superficie delle pagine che scorrono con la fretta degli anni.
E come è accaduto col fenomeno Moccia, ci appare più interessante il fenomeno che il testo.

UNA GUIDA RAPIDA PER AIUTARE
IL PASSEGGERO
Per proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione Europea ha adottato nuove regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi che possono essere
introdotti nelle aree sterili. Tali regole si applicano nei confronti
tutti i passeggeri in partenza dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi destinazione.
Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il relativo
bagaglio a mano devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi.
Comunque, le nuove regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere
acquistati presso gli esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di viaggio od a bordo di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione
Europea.
Le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali
modifiche.
A SHORT GUIDE TO HELP YOU
To protect you against the new threat of liquid explosives, the European Union (EU)
introduced new security rules to limit the amount of liquids that you can take through
security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from EU airports to all
destinations.
This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be inspected for liquids screening in addition to other prohibited articles. However, the
new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond the
checkpoints.
The new rules are in force as to Monday 6th November 2006 at all airports in the EU
and in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland until further notice.

All electronic devices, including mobile phones, must be switched off whenever
the “fasten seat sign” is on for taxi, take off and landing. During the cruise phase
the use of cd, dvd, mp3 player, videogames and portable computer is permitted
as long as the wireless connection is disabled. Mobile phones can be used, when
airborne, only if the “in-flight mode” has been selected on ground.
Jet Lag
Il vostro “orologio biologico” può a volte non gradire i cambi di fuso
legati al viaggio aereo: senso di affaticamento, difficoltà a prendere
sonno e riduzione dell’appetito sono tra i sintomi più comuni. Per minimizzare l’impatto di tale fenomeno, si consiglia di dormire bene la
notte prima del volo e di mantenere le proprie “lancette biologiche”
sull’orario di casa se la permanenza nel luogo di destinazione non dovesse superare i due giorni. In caso di una permanenza più prolungata, è
opportuno adeguarsi il prima possibile all’orario locale e attenersi a regole di vita
salutari, tenendo presente che il recupero degli effetti “jet lag” è generalmente
più rapido se si viaggia con direzione ovest e più lento con direzione est.
Sometimes you “biological clock” may not welcome the time changes involved
in air travel and it finds ways of letting you know about this. Some of the most
common symptoms are a sense of weariness, difficulty in falling asleep at night
and appetite loss. To minimize jet lag effects, make sure you get a good night
sleep before leaving and, if you plan to stay abroad less than two days, keep you
biological clock set on your home time (i.e. keep your regular eating and sleeping
habits). In the event of a longer trip, it is advisable to get used to local time as
soon as possible and to conduct a regular and healthy life. Remember that getting over jet lag is generally quicker when travelling westwards than eastwards.

To help you feel better when you fly with us, just follow these
tips and suggestions designed to enhance your well being on
board
Stare a lungo seduti in una stessa posizione può farvi sentire a
disagio sull’aereo. Sgranchitevi gambe e braccia ogni due ore
circa. Alzatevi di tanto in tanto e camminate su e giù per il corridoio oppure fate i semplici esercizi* di stretching illustrati per
prevenire problemi circolatori.
Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel uncomfortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch your arms and legs
or carry out some easy exercises* suggested below.
Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione e limitare
bevande gassate, tè e caffè.
Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy drinks, tea and
coffee.
Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole quantità e
spesso.
Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
Moderate il consumo di bevande alcoliche, poiché queste sono
assorbite più facilmente dal corpo ad alta quota a causa della
bassa pressione dell’aria all’interno della cabina.
Moderate your intake of alcohol.
In caso di permanenza prolungata a bordo è consigliato sostituire le lenti a contatto con degli occhiali per evitare irritazioni
oculari. Togliete sempre le lenti a contatto prima di dormire.
In case of a long flight it is recommended to wear eyeglasses
rather than contact lenses. Remove contact lenses before sleeping.
*Vi suggeriamo di sospendere immediatamente questi esercizi
se causano dolore o disagio.

you feel pain or discomfort.

Iniziate gli esercizi stando seduti in modo comodo ed eretto.
Start the exercise by sitting in comfortably in your seat in an upright position.

Poggiate entrambi i piedi sul pavimento. Flettete i piedi puntando i talloni in su e poi in giù. Ripetete per cinque volte.
Rest both feet on the floor. Flex both feet with toes pointing
upward, then point your toes downward Perform this exercise
five times.

Sollevate dolcemente il ginocchio verso il busto per alcuni secondi, poi lasciatelo andare, poggiando nuovamente il piede
sul pavimento. Fate lo stesso con l’altra gamba. Ripetete cinque
volte per gamba.
Raise you knee gently towards the chest for a few seconds and
then release, placing your feet back on the floor. Continue with
the other leg. Repeat five times for each leg.

Mettete le mani sotto una coscia e sollevatele dolcemente verso il busto. Ruotate la caviglia in modo circolare per 5 secondi.
Ripetete con l’altra gamba. Ripetete questo esercizio cinque
volte per gamba.
Place your hands under one thigh, and gently lift toward your
chest. Rotate your ankle in a circular motion for 5 seconds. Repeat with the other leg. Perform this exercise five times with
both legs.
