IL LIBRO DELLA MEMORIA
I libri della memoria sono ora stati
collocati presso l’altare delle chiese
di St Ambrose’s e Our Lady’s.

Fr Michael Casey
Lord, hear a cause that is just,
pay heed to my cry.
Turn your ear to my prayer:
no deceit is on my lips.
I keep my feet firmly in your paths;
there was no faltering in my steps.
I am here and I call, you will hear me, O God.
Turn your ear to me; hear my words.
Guard me as the apple of your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
As for me, in my justice I shall see your face
and be filled, when I awake, with the sight of your
glory.

GOD OF THE LIVING
In today’s Gospel, Jesus appeals
to the Scripture that the
Sadducees do accept: Moses
called God the God of Abraham,
of Isaac and of Jacob. If the Lord
is God of the living, then God
will continue to be so to those
who have died. Relationship
with God does not end in death: to God all
people are alive. Jesus’ argument with the
Sadducees may seem too remote and abstruse to
our modern ears. However, religious arguments
are rarely simple to understand but sometimes
they are worth staying with. Through this
argument Jesus reveals something of his own
image of God – a God who keeps his promise to
his faithful ones even when they die. Jesus does
more than argue that case; the time comes when
he himself becomes the argument. He undergoes
death, and he experiences the glory of the
resurrection when God refuses to let death have
the last word. The risen Jesus is the ultimate
argument against the Sadducees.

names have already been written in the book,
there is no need to write them again. The Book of

end of November, reminding us to pray for all
those named in it.
