contract n. 042636 (FU06) EC-TECH, which finances the above mentioned project;

PROVIDES AS FOLLOWS
Art. 1
A call for application for microwave engineer position in the framework of the contract n. 042636
(FU06) EC-TECH at Istituto di Fisica del Plasma is open.
•! The research to be carried out under the EU project on Euratom Fusion Training Scheme (EFTS)
•!!!!Scientist in charge of this research is Dr. Sante Cirant.
•The subject of the research is the following:
Research Theme:
ELECTRON CYCLOTRON SYSTEM TECHNOLOGY FOR ITER (EC-TECH). Study and design of a
millemeterwave antenna for "Electron Cyclotron Heating and Current Drive" in thermonuclear plasmas
with magnetic confinement.

Research programme:
The trainee will get advanced training on the shaping of Gaussian beams by appropriate mirror antennas,
and on beam propagation/absorption in thermonuclear plasmas. In addition to the analysis of the
plasma/wave interaction of the launched beam, he will be trained on the modelling of beam inside the
antenna, i.e. truncation at apertures, beam distortion on hot mirrors, resistive losses on launching mirrors.
The candidate will collaborate on an international level with the other candidates of the training
programme, which includes visits to other European laboratories.
Art. 2
The contract duration is of 24 months. Starting of the contract will be no later than November 1, 2007 and
in any case it cannot exceed the limit of the validity of the contract 042636 (FU06) EC-TECH, fixed at
August 31, 2010.
The gross amount granted under this contract is 30.336,00 EURO yearly, which includes gross salary and
social charges, and it will be paid monthly. Additional payments: travel allowance for a yearly travel
between the location of the origin of the trainee and the and the IFP (500,00 " first year, 250,00 " second
year). Mobility allowance for secondments longer than six month (2.979,00 " yearly). Contributions to
expenditures for the partecipation to meetings and conferences (6.000,00 " yearly). Career exploratory
allowance of 2.000,00 ", only once for the whole trainig period.
The appropriate tax deductions law will be applied by the CNR to the amounts paid, also taking into
account the international agreements actually in force with the country of origin of the candidate.
It is responsibility of the successful applicant to provide for the coverage of the health services for the
period of stay in Italy, producing evidence to the CNR either of the registration with the Italian National
Health Service (SSN), or of the stipulation of a private health insurance, and of the stipulation of a civil
liability insurance policy during the period of stay at the CNR.
Art. 3
In order to apply for the present selection, the candidate must comply with the following eligibility criteria
on the starting date of the contract:
Degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
The candidate sould have:
Documented professional experience, 4 years maximum, in applied microwaves and electromagnetics,
and/or basic knowledge in plasma physics and/or in high power microwave sources.
Skills in experimental physics, good technical writing ability,
Knowledge of computational tools, such as Matlab, would be an advantage.
Ability to fully integrate into, and to speak in front of a group of engineers and physicists.
Good knowledge of written and spoken English (Knowledge of German and French is an asset)
Should be able to travel for long periods within the European Community.
Nationality: the researcher must be a national of a EU Member State, an Associated State or an Associated
Candidate Countries.
For the porpose of the Euratom Fusion Training Schemes, non-nationals from Member State, Associated
State or Associated Candidate Countries having legally resided and having had their main activity (work,
studies etc.) for at least four of the last five years, measured at the reference deadline for submission, in
Member State,Associated State or Associated Candidate Countries are treated as nationals of Member
State, Associated State or Associated Candidate Countries in which they have resided the longest.

Art. 4
A-Submission
The application, compiled according to the scheme available on the CNR web-site: Istituto di Fisica del

must be received either directly handed over or sent via registered mail to the following address:

Incomplete applications or those handed over/sent after the expiring date will not be taken into account.!
The Institute cannot be held responsible for the loss of information due to incomplete address on the
envelope, or to a late or missing communication of a change of address indicated in the application by the
candidate.! The Institute cannot be held responsible for losses due to inefficiency of the mail service, or any
other cause which cannot be directly attributed to a faulty handling of the information within its premises.
!Handicapped candidates are entitled upon request to special aid, with reference to their handicap. They
should ask explicitly for it in their application.
The candidate should indicate clearly his/her address.! Should this address change within the time limits of
this selection procedure, the candidate must promptly inform the Istituto di Fisica del Plasma.
The candidate must enclose to the application, in one copy only,

a) all documents certifying qualifications and publications, which he/she plans to submit for the selection.!
A maximum of five publications will be accepted;
b) a curriculum vitae (three copies (dated and signed)), describing the scientific activity.! The candidate
will indicate his/her scholastic and scientific history, his/her qualifications, his/her scientific publications;
c) a list ( three copies (dated and signed))of the publications and documents enclosed;
d) for EEC citizens a self-certification (in Italian or English) of the his/her degree;
e) for non EEC citizens, a copy, certified by the Italian consular authorities, of his/her degree.

B - Documents admitted for evaluation and publications
Documents and publications must be sent in their original form, or as certified copies, or as copies
accompanied by a certificate of conformity prepared by filling the form provided in attachment and by a
copy of a valid ID.! As a replacement of the document certifying qualifications, the candidate can enclose
an appropriate certificate, the so called "dichiarazione sostitutiva dell'atto di notorietà" provided by Italian
regulations.! The certificates should be filled analytically, and they should include all information which
will make them useful for the selection by the Committee.! Documents in a language other than Italian or
English will be admitted with reservation.! The applicant will not be allowed to substitute any document
enclosed to the application after the expiring date.! Applications submitted by CNR employees will not be
accepted.

Art. 5
Candidates are accepted unless they fail to comply with the conditions indicated above.! Motivated
exclusion from the selection due to missing requirements is taken by the Director of the Istituto di Fisica
del Plasma at any time.
!
Art. 6
The selection will be carried out by! a Committee appointed by the Director.! The Director will appoint
three members plus a substitute member.! All members will be chosen among experts in the field of
research indicated in art. 1. In its first meeting the Committee will appoint its President and its Secretary.
!
Art. 7
The Committee will evaluate the qualifications and publications of the candidates and then proceed to
interviews with those eligible.! It can award a maximum of 100 credits, 70 for the qualifications and
publications and 30 for the interview.
The candidates will be informed by registeref letter of the date of the interview and the mark for
qualifications and publications.
The mark of the interviews will be available the same day.
Candidates must show a valid Identity Document before the interview.
No reimbursement of expenses related to the interview is given by CNR.
The Committeee must conclude within thirty days from submission deadline.
The winner is the candidate with highest total score, resulting from the sum of qualifications/publications
and interview scores.
Votes being equal, the younger is the winner.
The pass-list is approved by the Director. All partecipants will be informed about the selection results and
the pass-list in writing. The pass-list will be shown in IFP/CNR website.
In case of renunciation of the contract by the winner, the Director might appoint the next in the pass-list.
Art. 8
The Director and the successful applicant will sign the contract (contratto d’opera) within fifteen days from
the date on which the final pass-list is made public.
Should the Researcher in charge consider the services given by the successful applicant not in keeping with
the provisions of the Contract, he/she will contact the Director, who will ask the contractor to comply
within a suitable time limit.! Should the contractor still refuse to comply with the provisions of the
Contract, the Institute will be allowed to withdraw from the obligations toward the Contractor, by
allocating the part of the funds owed for the part of the service effectively supplied.
Should the Contractor find himself/herself in the position to have to give up the position, he/she should
inform the Director and the Scientist in charge immediately.! Sums received as anticipations must in this
case be given back to the Institute.

Art. 9
The Scientist in charge and the Contractor should transmit to the Director! a complete report of the activity
before the final date of the contract.

Art. 10
Within six months since the date of publication of the pass-list Candidates can apply for return of their
documents and publications.! Requests must be addressed to the Director of the IFP.! Documents and
publications will be returned unless open cases involving the candidate and the Institute exist.! After six
months since the date of publication of the pass-list the IFP will be not responsible for what happens to the
unclaimed documentation.
Art. 11
As far as the treatment of personal information is concerned. the IFP will follow provision of the Italian law
regulating the matter.

Art. 12
For all cases not explicitly discussed in this Application, the rules and regulations usually enforced for the
drafting of similar Contracts in the field of Public Employment will be followed.
The successful applicant cannot receive any fellowship either by the CNR or any other research institution
during the contract period.!
