TEOLOGIA - 3 ARTÍCULOS http://www.teologiahoy.com/fly/ FLY ..!! BY ROBERT BONNET IN MÍSTICA Y VIDA As human beings we are constantly challenged by difficulties that force us into working internally over a myriad of issues we may or may not initially enjoy. Family related issues, work headaches, sometimes health problems; lack of available money in order to acquire material goods, pay taxes, home and car loans, credit cards; living within dangerous cities or neighborhoods, watching the world move by us as we remain seemingly fossilized in dead-end jobs or relationships. It all adds up into a mass of sticky headaches that often overcome our capacity for enjoyment and internal peace. If we observe this wall of headaches we realize they really do deprave us of a quality of life that every human being is entitled to enjoy. We call these walls challenges. What is the meaning of this word? According to Google’s dictionary, a challenge is “an objection or query as to the truth of something, often with an implicit demand for proof.” In other words, a challenge is an obstacle we may or may not necessarily enjoy but must learn to understand in full in order to overcome it. Every human being lives bottled in his or her own reality. We judge the world based on what we perceive around us either materially, emotionally or intellectually. We are affected by the limitations of our own family environment, our professional opportunities, the cities, towns and neighborhoods we live in. Our lives are influenced by the news on social improvements implanted by our governments, the corruption that often plagues them, the crime that surrounds us, traffic, pollution etc. If we live with no internal energy or force, if we do not guide our lives with inner light, we become victims to each of these issues that are neither good or bad, but simply situations in life that we often color with our own emotions and outlook. The Greek philosopher Zeno of Citium founded a school of thought in Athens during the early third year BC that based on Stoicism. Some of the basic conclusions of this doctrine were that “destructive emotions resulted from errors in judgement; and a sage, or a person of moral and intellectual perfection, would not suffer such emotions.” They were concerned with the active relationship between cosmic determinism and human freedom, and the ideal advantage of maintaining a will that is basically in balance with nature. The philosophy followed by this school of thought was thus a way of life represented thru each individual’s final behavior, more than his or her words. Stoics who lived later, such as Seneca, concluded that only a sage can be considered a truly free person, basically because virtue is enough to provide us happiness; on the opposite side, all moral corruptions are vicious. This, by logic seems very reasonable. If I do not break my own moral and ethical codes, I will avoid guilt and the unavoidable conclusions of ‘wrong-doing”. I believe that all of humanity’s true teachers practiced stoic lives. Jesus did too. Regardless of whether we consider him the Son of God with a spiritual quality that is unattainable to us, or a human being that lived in the best possible stoic way he could, positively influencing humanity through an example that has lasted more than 2000 years, his life has been an impeccable reminder of the benefits of living a stoic lifestyle. The practice of stoicism includes outstanding moral and ethical values that go beyond today’s standards. Challenges will always surround us; our only true hope is to live a life that is not affected by the winds of change, clinging strongly to our strongest beliefs and replacing them only with a higher version of standards we can find. Deciding to at least attempt to live in this way will certainly help us to avoid some of the self induced emotional burdens of acting against our own self by acting against our own values. On the other hand, many challenges in our lives do not necessarily come as a result of conduct flaws but as part of the opportunities that may come disguised as walls; while in reality they are crossroads, doors or windows leading to better opportunities. Many years ago I was offered to design a project I was not looking forward to do. I had to create a course in an aviation training center that included a particular aircraft’s systems manuals, checklists, classroom media, plus endless tables and charts. I had previous flying experience on that particular aircraft, but did not really feel enthusiastic on dedicating a part of my life to a project that was not of my choice. While deciding if I wanted to embrace or reject this project, I came across a book from Deepak Chopra. He wrote in it that God not only approaches human beings in the way that is described in the Bible, that is, through burning bushes that do not consume, Angels visiting us or guiding stars that lead our steps during dark nights. He also communicates with us on a daily basis through every single event and situation that we experience. Deepak Chopra recommended that when facing a challenge, we take our time to weigh the advantages and disadvantages, and determine if it has more positive advantages than negative ones; and if this is the case, then perhaps we should “bite the bullet” and embrace the opportunity. We may have to cope with the visit of a person we do not look forward to meeting, or we may have to accept a job offer that seems not adequate to our background. We may have to deal with a new, difficult peer that has been relocated into our own office, or to face the life-changing miracle of our wives’ new pregnancy, the death of a dear person, etc. Each of these experiences forces us to move out of our cocoons and allows us to embrace completely new realities which will always lead us in the end to better places. If on the hand we decide not to accept the challenge facing us, we will avoid the possible negative implications of it… but we will also lose the opportunity to receive the blessings a new change will bring. We can always choose to remain stagnant and comfortable; but similar to water that does not flow, we will deteriorate very rapidly. We would live lives that never changed and internal growth that never happened. Slowly we will no longer be adapted to life because everything changes with time and we would not… life would leave us behind. If we embrace the challenge, we will initially have to apply some effort into it; but it will always make us grow in varied and unexpected ways. A challenge is a door that opens to a new reality and the decision to face it should be made with confidence by following our internal highest set of moral and ethical codes. After time passes, we will always see how deciding to embrace these challenges really do help us to become wiser and thus better prepared to face life. There are always risks of failing when we embrace a new challenge, if we fall prey to our own fears and/or limitations. Something to consider is that if we have never made a mistake this probably means we have never accepted any serious challenge. Everything created, including human beings, has the internal attributes to grow and achieve wonders that often escape our own imagination. Challenges not always come to us as uninvited guests with hidden gifts. Sometimes they are self-imposed. On many occasions and in order to achieve a goal we first decide exactly what we want to accomplish, and then we pay the price to get it. We should apply our best moral and ethical values, hand in hand with our best attitude. Zig Ziglar said that we cannot climb the ladder of success dressed in a costume of failure. We must be full of passion in order to move the walls of doubts that resist the changes we are bringing. Passion is the fire that melts all obstacles and it should flow from within us in every word, every action and intention that flows from us. Thoreau advised us to go in the direction of our dreams, to live the life we have have imagined. Eat, talk, move, dream of your highest ambition, and shroud it in a stoic robe so we do not betray our own essence, who we really are. We have the whole Cosmos always conspiring on our favor through changing opportunities in all possible ways. This force is inherent to everything created. This is what it means to be formed with God’s essence. Money has been given to much value. It is really overpriced and overvalued in our lives. At times we may feel uncomfortable at the apparent lack of financial means, basically after being brain washed constantly by the publicity that overflows in the media. Truth is, money should be a means and not a goal. Money that is not used is useless and goals require more than money to be achieved, often very little of it or none at all. Our goals and dreams are fueled by the fire of passion within us that will open the doors for our dreams to come through. We do have the power to achieve almost anything we want in life, and that is common to each of us. Money is not always the key to real success. Many extremely wealthy people are simply miserable. Too many responsibilities or greed steal their internal harmony and enslave them to a life of unhappiness. An athlete cannot run with his pockets full of money. He must run with hope in his heart and dreams in his head. We have all heard Henry Ford’s conclusion on our own possibilities: whether you think you can or you cannot, either way you are right. It is all within us, everything we ever dreamt of or desired. Within us lives a king and a pauper, love or hatred, peace or war, wisdom or stupidity. We invite to surface who and what we want. We are the architects of our own lives and we are never victims. Whatever happens to us we can modify; whatever dreams we have we can achieve. Life is a miracle of opportunities waiting for each of us to experience. We never really left paradise. We just thought we did, but we are still here and this garden of Eden is waiting for to cross its gates and enter it once again. Reach out and grab your highest dreams, because they belong to you. Do not let go of your wildest goals. Stretch out your limits, break your self-imposed mental barriers and fly! http://www.teologiahoy.com/odio-al-cristianesimo/ ODIO AL CRISTIANESIMO? Come mai?
