Read the following advertisements which appeared in the Italian magazine ‘Oggi’ on the 7th
April 2004. They all appeared in an advertising feature for the area around Rimini in a
feature called ‘Pasqua al mare’. (Easter at the seaside). Four people decide to visit a hotel in
the area.
Decide which hotel is best suited to the needs of each person and complete the table in
ENGLISH which follows:

San Marino è la più antica repubblica del mondo. Il primo documento di questo
stato infatti è dell’885 d.C. Si trova nel Centro-Italia fra la Romagna e le Marche,
ha una superficie di 60 km quad. e una popolazione di circa 30,000 abitanti. La
capitale di questo piccolissimo stato si trova sul Monte Titano. A capo dello stato
e dell’esercito sono i due Capitani reggenti che vengono eletti due volte all’anno,
il primo aprile e il primo ottobre.
Ai piedi di Monte Titano c’è Borgo Maggiore, un piccolo centro molto bello e
caratteristico. Qui, da secoli, una volta alla settimana ha luogo un grande mercato
all’aperto che è un punto d’incontro per la gente di tutti i paesi vicini.
Nel 1607 in questa piccola repubblica incomincia il primo servizio postale del
mondo. Tutti lo possono usare e tutti devono pagare, anche le autorità. Nel 1877,
prima fra i piccoli stati europei, la repubblica decide di usare francobolli propri.
Da allora i francobolli sono un’importante fonte di guadagno per lo stato. Alcuni
di questi francobolli, creati dai più famosi artisti contemporanei, sono delle vere
opere d’arte.

La signora Rossi, una vecchietta sulla settantina, andava a fare una visita a sua
figlia che abitava in campagna. Prima di salire sul treno si è avvicinata al
capotreno e gli ha chiesto di avvertirla quando il treno sarebbe arrivato a Pisa. Si è
accomodata poi nell’angolo di uno scompartimento vuoto ed ha aperto il suo
romanzo storico.
Durante il viaggio, ogni volta che passava il capotreno nel corridoio, la signora lo
chiamava per ricordargli quello che gli aveva chiesto. Il povero uomo ha
cominciato a perdere pazienza ed è stato felicissimo di vederla finalmente
addormentata.
Il treno stava per partire dalla stazione di Pisa quando il capotreno si è ricordato
della piccola vecchia. Si è precipitato nel suo scompartimento e prendendola per
le braccia, l’ha tirata sul marciapiede. Il treno era già cominciato a partire quando
la signora Rossi, mezzo addormentata, si è accorta di dov’era. “Non volevo
scendere qui!” ha gridato.
“Volevo solo guardare la Torre Pendente per il finestrino dello scompartimento”.

Ecco il bollettino meteorologico per Roma e la sua regione valevole fino alle ore sei di domani
mattina. Le foschie mattutine faranno luogo ad un tempo asciutto e, in gran parte assolato. Farà di
nuovo molto caldo con temperature massime che raggiungeranno i 29 gradi con leggero vento da
Ovest. In serata, le nuvole si moltiplicheranno a Ovest, con la possibilità di pioggia prima di
domani mattina. La temperatura massima di questa notte sarà di quindici gradi.

L’ anno prossimo che programma ha per le vacanze?

Penso che prima andrò, anzi tornerò in Inghilterra con mia figlia e starò una decina di
giorni. Da Londra mi spingerò penso ad Edimburgo, se sarà possible, in Scozia, perchè
la parte meridionale della Gran Bretagna la conosco bene, quindi andremo penso verso
il Nord, verso la Scozia.

Poi al mare….penso che ci andremo in Spagna, facendo una visita prima ad alcune
città: Granada, Toledo….e poi fermandoci sulla costa meridionale. Penso che sia una
