A note from Fr. Wayne . . .
From the Deacon’s desk . . .
On Saturday,
March 12th,
the young
men and
women from
our Religious
Education Program attended an all day retreat here
at Sacred Heart. They will be confirmed on Friday,
April 8th by the Very Reverend James Flavin. I ask
each of you to keep them in your prayers in the
weeks that lay ahead. May the Holy Spirit of God
not only hover over them but enter them so that they
may continue the mission of the Church. May they
manifold gifts of the Holy Spirit (Wisdom, Understanding, Knowledge, Fortitude, Reverence, Fear of
the Lord, and Counsel). Also, remember the adults
who will, this Easter Vigil, receive the sacraments of
Baptism, Holy Communion, and Confirmation. I
am grateful to all those who have assisted in the training and formation of each of these candidates. May
God who has begun such great work in them bring it
one day to fulfillment.
Scripture and God’s mercy
Sacred Scripture is the key to our faith. Sacred Scripture unlocks the door to the mysteries of our belief.
One of the benefits of my job at Old Colony has
been to better use the Bible in prayer and meditation. To “spike” your curiosity in Sacred Scripture; I
have found Biblical references that address God’s
mercy.

the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, release to the prisoners, to announce a

Questa domenica trova la sua chiave di lettura
nell’acclamazione al vangelo: «Io non voglio la morte del peccatore, ma che si converta e viva» (Ez
33,11). Ancora una volta Dio si dichiara a favore
della vita dei suoi figli, anche quando la loro insensatezza può averli esclusi da ogni umana considerazione.
Un Dio geloso della vita dei suoi figli al punto tale
da restituire loro, con il suo perdono, la dignità,
l’onorabilità, la vita, diventa annuncio liberante e
giudizio su un mondo così spesso spietato e crudele. La comunità cristiana deve farsi portatrice di
questo messaggio, consapevole di essere stata creata
da un gesto di misericordia, che la rende debitrice
nei confronti di Dio e di ogni fratello. Il perdono
diventa responsabilità.
Grandi cose ha fatto il Signore per noi.
Quando il Signore ristabilì la sorte
di Sion, ci sembrava di sognare.
Allora la nostra bocca si riempì di
sorriso, la nostra lingua di gioia.
Allora si diceva tra le genti:
«Il Signore ha fatto grandi cose
per loro». Grandi cose ha fatto
il Signore per noi: eravamo pieni di gioia.

Fratelli, ritengo che tutto sia una perdita a motivo
della sublimità della conoscenza di Cristo Gesù, mio
Signore. Per lui ho lasciato perdere tutte queste cose
e le considero spazzatura, per guadagnare Cristo ed
essere trovato in lui, avendo come mia giustizia non
quella derivante dalla Legge, ma quella che viene
dalla fede in Cristo, la giustizia che viene da Dio, basata sulla fede: perché io possa conoscere lui, la potenza della sua risurrezione, la comunione alle sue
sofferenze, facendomi conforme alla sua morte, nella
speranza di giungere alla risurrezione dai morti.
Non ho certo raggiunto la mèta, non sono arrivato
alla perfezione; ma mi sforzo di correre per conquistarla, perché anch’io sono stato conquistato da Cristo
Gesù. Fratelli, io non ritengo ancora di averla conquistata. So soltanto questo: dimenticando ciò che
mi sta alle spalle e proteso verso ciò che mi sta di
fronte, corro verso la mèta, al premio che Dio ci
chiama a ricevere lassù, in Cristo Gesù.

pietra contro di lei». E, chinatosi di nuovo, scriveva
