SUNDAY, AUGUST 14, 2016: TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINAY TIME
Dear Parishioners,
I can hardly believe how quickly the summer is passing.
School will open in just a little over three weeks after Labor
Day weekend. Father Ambros is away on retreat and then goes
on summer holiday. Father Gabriel and I will join him in Austria at the end of August for the Solemnity of Saint Augustine
when we will be glad to witness two of our confrères profess
solemn vows. If all goes as expected, we also look forward to
ordinations in the autumn as well.
As of last month we have a new Novice Master in Klosterneuburg, Father Albert Maczka. A priest for over twenty
years, Father Albert brings enormous and diverse experience to
his new position, having worked in Poland, Austria and Norway. We are very excited about the appointment of Father Albert and expect many great innovations for our novices and
juniors (seminarians). May I ask you for your prayers for his
success and for vocations to our community? These will be
your future priests, or at least, our future confrères. Although
God has blessed with our community with priestly vocations,
we would be able to do more if there were more of us!
Some of you may know Father Albert as he has visited us on
several occasions. He admires greatly the work of the Canons
in our parishes and school as well as the quality of our common
life in the Canonry of Saint Leopold at Saint Patrick. In fact, he
is sending one of our seminarians, Dom Wilhelm, to spend
three weeks with us in September.
Dom Wilhelm visited us for the first time this past spring.
From Iceland, Dom Wilhelm speaks many languages including
English and Italian (he studies in Rome currently). We would
like to give him a chance to give a talk or two in Italian. If you
have any suggestions, please, let me know as soon as possible!
He would like to prepare well. I know you will enjoy getting to
know him better.
Father Ignatius just concluded his fourth visit to Glen Cove.
He loves the Feast and really enjoys his time here. We are very
happy that he feels so at home with us and look forward to his
next visit. Please keep him in your prayers as he returns to
work in his parish in Korneuburg, across the Danube from
Klosterneuburg.
Many of you asked during the Feast if my parents were
there. Thank you. It is nice to know that you enjoy their visits
as much as I do. They did not come this year, but they are currently visiting in the lull afterwards. I look very much forward
to celebrating with them next year their Golden Jubilee of Holy
Matrimony.
And finally, speaking of travels – of a sort – this year, the
Solemnity of the Assumption of Our Lady is celebrated on
Monday. As such, the obligation to attend Mass is abrogated
this year. Our parish celebration will be at the 7:30 am Mass as
usual. If you cannot make it, please consider attending Mass
elsewhere or offering the Holy Rosary to honor the Mother of
God.
God bless you,
Father Elias
Cari parrocchiani,
Quasi non riesco a credere quanto velocemente l'estate
passa.
Labor Day. Padre Ambros prende i suoi esercizi spirituali
adesso e poi va in vacanza estiva.
confratelli professano i voti solenni.
Novizi a Klosterneuburg, P. Albert Maczka. Un sacerdote per
oltre venti anni, P. Albert porta grande e diversificata
in diverse occasioni.
Leopoldo a San Patrizio.
in settembre.
possibile! Vorrebbe preparare bene. So che potrete godere di
arrivare a conoscerlo meglio.
tanto quanto me.
Padre Elias

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
The churches of St. Rocco and St. Patrick are in
need of religious education catechists for the
fall, 2016. To Volunteer for this
rewarding experience or for further
information pleas call:
St. Patrick - 671-7223
St. Rocco - 676-4691
Thank you and God bless you!
In today’s second reading, St.Paul encourages us not to grow
weary or lose heart, but to persevere in following Jesus. Our
willingness to give of ourselves, even in the face of conflict and
division, is one way to measure our discipleship.
Living Stewardship
We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish whose
faithfulness is evident, despite uncertain times and certain hardships, to provide continued service to their neighbor in need.
Regrettably the pump that services the bathroom in the vestibule of the Church has burnt out. The cause is uncertain but
what is clear is that this will be a very expensive repair
(perhaps as much as $60,000 as was quoted in the past). Consequently, it will take time to repair since we must follow Diocesan Guidelines for expenditures over $20,000. In the
meantime, the Parish Center will be open during Masses on
Saturday evening and Sunday. Thank you for your understanding.
Please continue to pray for all the men
and women
serving our country:
