Als vielseitiger, verlässlicher Partner des Menschen hat das Maultier
seine Qualitäten als Trag-, Zug- und
Reittier zu jeder Zeit unter Beweis
gestellt.

The mule, as a versatile and reliable
partner of man, has at all times
proven its qualities as a pack-,
draught- and riding-animal.
Aus diesem Grund ist das «Maultier
Museum Schweiz» als «dezentrales Museum» mit einem Zentrum
in Turtmann vorgesehen. Dieses
ehrgeizige Projekt wird durch den
Verein «Maultier Museum Schweiz»
umgesetzt.
C’est pour cette raison que le «Musée du Mulet Suisse», en tant que
«musée régional», sera centralisé
à Tourtemagne. Ce projet ambitieux
sera mis en œuvre par l‘association
«Musée du Mulet Suisse».
Per questo motivo, il «Museo
del Mulo Svizzera» è progettato
come «museo decentrato» con un
centro a Turtmann. Questo ambizioso progetto sarà realizzato
dall‘associazione «Museo del Mulo
Svizzera».
For this reason, the “Mule Museum
Switzerland” is planned as a “decentralized museum” with a centre
in Turtmann. This ambitious project

Maultiere und Maulesel sind mit der
menschlichen Kultur seit Jahrtausenden aufs engste verknüpft
– auch mit unserer europäischen.
Sie haben die Römer über die
Alpen gebracht, und mit ihnen
die Weinreben, die Kastanien, die
Bodenheizung, neue Wörter und
neue Techniken im Strassenbau.
Sie haben die Treidelkähne durch
die Kanäle Europas und Amerikas
gezogen und die ersten Touristinnen
zu den ersten Hotels im Hochgebirge getragen. Ohne Maultiere hätten
die Siedler den «Wilden Westen»
vielleicht gar nie erreicht...
Les mulets et les bardots sont
depuis des millénaires étroitement liés à la culture humaine et
européenne. Ils ont accompagné
les Romains à travers les Alpes, et
avec eux ils ont apporté la vigne,
la châtaigne, le chauffage au sol,
de nouveaux mots et de nouvelles
techniques dans la construction
routière. Ils ont hâlé les barges
le long des canaux d‘Europe et
d‘Amérique et ils ont transporté les
touristes vers les premiers hôtels
de montagnes. Sans mulets, les
colons n’auraient peut-être jamais
atteint le «Far West» ...

e quindi anche alla nostra cultura
europea. Hanno portato attraverso
le Alpi i Romani che hanno diffuso la
vigna, le castagne, il riscaldamento
del pavimento, nuove parole e nuove
tecniche di costruzione delle strade.
Trainavano le barche lungo i canali
d‘Europa e dell‘America e portavano i primi turisti ai primi alberghi
di montagna. Senza i muli i coloni
forse non sarebbero mai arrivati al
«wild west»…
For thousands of years mules and
hinnies have been tightly connected
with the human culture, also with
our European one. They carried the
Romans across the Alps, along with
the crape-vine, the chestnuts, the
floor heating, new words and new
techniques for constructing streets.
They pulled tow-boats along the
channels of Europe and America
and carried the first tourists to the
first hotels in the high mountains.
Without mules the settlers might
never have reached the “Wild West”.
Maultiere trugen Weinfässer und
Druckleitungsrohre, Äbtissinnen
und Cowboys, sie zogen Pflüge oder
Marktkarren, Postschlitten oder
Kanonen – und sie tun es immer
noch, in vielen Gegenden der Welt.
Sie werden genutzt und ausgenutzt,
geliebt und verachtet.
Ihre körperlichen und geistigen
Fähigkeiten machten sie in Gebirgswie auch in Dschungelkriegen zu

their physical and mental abilities
made them reliable comrades

Nein, das Maultier wird nicht
aussterben, solange es Esel und
Pferde gibt. Aber das Wissen über
das Wesen dieses Tiers könnte
aussterben, über die interessanten
und vielseitigen Techniken, die mit
seinem Gebrauch verbunden sind,
und über seine Leistungen zugunsten unserer menschlichen Kultur.

donkeys and horses. But the knowledge of the nature of this animal
could die out, the knowledge of the
interesting and versatile techniques, which are connected with
its use, and its work in favour of our
human culture.

Um der Vielfältigkeit des Themas
«Maultier in der Schweiz» gerecht
zu werden, wird ein dezentrales
Museum geplant. Bei dieser Form,
mit einem Zentrum und diversen Satelliten, werden Synergien
mit anderen Museen, kulturellen
Projekten, touristischen Angeboten angestrebt und genutzt. Durch
angegliederte Tätigkeiten, Angebote
und dem entstehenden Netzwerk
wird die Nachhaltigkeit gewährleistet. Dadurch beeinflusst es auch die
Entwicklung des gewählten Standortes bzw. einer ganzen Region.

thème «Mulet en Suisse», un musée
décentralisé est prévu. Sous cette
forme, avec un centre auquel sont
liés divers satellites, des synergies
avec d‘autres musées, des projets
culturels et des offres touristiques
pourront être développés. La durabilité sera assurée grâce à différentes activités, offres et contacts
établis. Le musée influencera ainsi
également le développement de
l’endroit où il est placé et même
toute la région.
Per rendere omaggio alla diversità
del tema «Il mulo in Svizzera» è previsto un museo decentrato. Grazie a
questa peculiarità nascerà un centro affiancato da vari satelliti, perciò
si cercano e si utilizzano sinergie
con altri musei, progetti culturali
e proposte turistiche. Le attività,
le offerte e la rete che ne risultano
sono gli elementi che garantiscono
la continuità delle iniziative. Questi
elementi esercitano un’influenza
positiva sulla crescita del luogo o
della regione in cui si svilupperanno.

the topic “Mule in Switzerland“ a

realisiert und beherbergt allgemeine Informationen über das Maultier.
Dieses wird als eigenständiges
Museum betrieben.

Die Satelliten werden an spezifisch
ausgewählten Standorten in der
Schweiz umgesetzt. Sie behandeln
detailliert die Themen Landwirtschaft (1), Tourismus (2), Transportwesen (3), Armee (4), Freizeit (5).
Es entsteht ein lebendiges und in
der Schweiz einzigartiges Museum.
CENTRE
Le centre sera placé à Tourtemagne
et offre des informations générales
sur le mulet. Il fonctionne comme
un musée indépendant.
SATELLITES
Les satellites seront placés en
différents endroits particuliers en
Suisse. Ils traiteront en détail de
thèmes comme l’agriculture (1),
le tourisme (2), les transports (3),
l’armée (4) et les loisirs (5).
C’est un musée vivant et unique en
Suisse qui sera réalisé.

viene gestito come museo autonomo.

Il risultato è un museo vivo e unico
in Svizzera.

The centre will be realized in Turtmann and houses general information about the mule. It will be operated as an independent museum.

The satellites will be implemented
at specific locations in Switzerland.
They cover in detail the issues of
agriculture (1), tourism (2), transportation (3), military (4), leisure (5).
It results a lively and unique museum in Switzerland.

Aus der durch die IGM gebildeten
Arbeitsgruppe Maultier-Museum
heraus, wurde im Februar 2012 der
Verein «Maultier Museum Schweiz»
gegründet. Er setzt sich dafür
ein, dass das Wissen rund um das
Maultier der Zukunft erhalten bleibt
und Interessierten mit Hilfe eines
Museums zugänglich gemacht wird.
Des Weiteren strebt er die Gründung
einer gesamtschweizerischen Stiftung «Maultier Museum Schweiz»
an. Dabei ist die Mittelbeschaffung
zur Gründung der Stiftung, neben
der Weiterführung der Tätigkeiten
der Arbeitsgruppe, ein wesentlicher
Aspekt seiner Arbeit.
L’association SAM a démarré un
groupe de travail «Musée du Mulet»
avec l’idée de créer un musée du
mulet. De ce groupe est née en
février 2012 l‘association «Musée
du Mulet Suisse». Cette association
veille à sauvegarder les connaissances autour du mulet en mettant un
musée à disposition des intéressés.
En outre, elle vise à établir les bases d’une fondation «Musée du Mulet Suisse». La collecte de fonds en
vue de la création de la fondation,
en plus de la poursuite des activités
du groupe de travail, constitue un
aspect essentiel de son travail.
Nel febbraio 2012 l‘associazione
«Museo del Mulo Svizzera» è stata
fondata dal gruppo Museo del Mulo,
creato dalla IGM. Essa si impegna
affinché le conoscenze sul mulo si
tramandino in futuro, anche tramite
lo stesso museo che è di riferimento
alla gente interessata. Inoltre ha
l‘obiettivo di fondare una fondazione nazionale: «Museo del Mulo
Svizzera». Un aspetto fondamentale
è la raccolta di fondi per la creazione di questa fondazione, oltre
alla continuazione dell’attività del
gruppo di lavoro.
In February 2012 the working group
Mule Museum, formed out of the
IGM, founded the association “Mule
Museum Switzerland”. They aim to
preserve the knowledge of the mule
for the future, and that interested
people can get it with the help of
the museum. In addition the group
is aspiring to found a general Swiss
foundation “Mule Museum Switzerland”. An important aspect of the
groups work is the providing of the
finances for founding the foundation, besides the continuation of their
activities.
