Opening tomorrow with the participation of 39 countries
Tomorrow, the 9th of October 2008, at 14.00, the High Level Meeting of the OECD Tourism Committee on
“Tourism Economy and Globalisation” will be officially opened at the Centro Congressi of Riva del Garda.
For two days the official delegations of 39 countries, ministers, industrial sector leaders and tourism
experts will discuss about the new global challenges that the tourism industry will have to face and about
the actions that governments can undertake to sustain the competitiveness of OECD Countries in the
global market.
The High Level Meeting will open with welcome messages from Ms. Michela Vittoria Brambilla, State
Secretary in charge of tourism for the Government of Italy, and Sergio Arzeni, Director of the OECD Centre
for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and Local Development and Head of the LEED Programmme.
Alain Dupeyras, Head of the Tourism Programme, OECD, will introduce the key themes of the High Level
Meeting, in particular, “Globalisation and sustainable tourism growth: Lessons from the OECD”.
The first Session of work, dedicated to the theme “Adjusting Policies to the Globalisation of the Tourism
Economy” will start at 3.00 p.m., and will be followed by the Round Table on “The Italian Experience of the
Tourism Development in the Global Arena” at 17.00.
For the first time, the OECD Tourism Committee will meet at a high level and will discuss the fundamental
issue of globalisation, a new economic model which poses tourism, an important sector in the economy of
the participating countries, new challenges both in the short and long run.

Economia del turismo e la globalizzazione, incontro OCSE, Riva del Garda, Italia, 9-10 ottobre 2008
Domani l’apertura dell’incontro con la partecipazione di 39 Paesi
Domani, 9 ottobre 2008, alle ore 14, presso il Centro Congressi di Riva del Garda, si aprirà ufficialmente
l’incontro ad alto livello del Comitato turistico dell’OCSE dal titolo “Economia del turismo e la
globalizzazione”. Per due giorni, le delegazioni ufficiali di 39 nazioni, ministri, leader del settore industriale
ed esperti in campo turistico si confronteranno sulle nuove sfide globali che l’industria del turismo sarà
chiamata ad affrontare e quali azioni possono intraprendere i governi per sostenere la competitività dei
paesi OCSE nel mercato globale.
Il programma ufficiale prevede i discorsi di apertura dell’onorevole Michela Vittoria Brambilla,
Sottosegretario di Stato al turismo del Governo Italiano, e di Sergio Arzeni, direttore del Centro per
l’imprenditorialità, le Pmi e lo sviluppo locale dell’OCSE di Trento.
Spetterà, invece, ad Alain Dupeyras, responsabile del programma turismo dell’OCSE, introdurre i temi
chiave dell’incontro ed, in particolare, la “Globalizzazione e crescita sostenibile del turismo: il punto di vista
dell’OCSE”.
Dalle ore 15 inizierà la prima sessione dei lavori, dedicata al tema “Adeguare le politiche della
globalizzazione dell’economia del turismo”, a cui seguirà – alle ore 17 – la tavola rotonda “Lo sviluppo
turistico nell’arena globale. L’esperienza italiana”.
Per la prima volta, il comitato turismo dell’OCSE si riunisce ad alto livello ed affronta il tema fondamentale
della globalizzazione, modello economico che pone delle sfide nuove di breve e medio periodo al turismo,
settore importante dell’economia dei paesi partecipanti.
