for the exhibition project that presents Italian style to the Chinese market
in collaboration with Sistema Moda Italia and Assocalzaturifici,
produced with the support of the Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico
Ente Moda Italia and ICE-Italian Trade Agency are preparing the second edition of La Moda
Italiana@CHIC, the new exhibition project dedicated to Italian companies launched last October,
which will showcase Made in Italy fashion and style at CHIC, scheduled to be held from 16 to 18
March 2016 in the new and immense National Exhibition & Convention Center in Shanghai.
After the success of the Italian participation at the last edition of CHIC, which received very positive
feedback from the Chinese members of the trade attending and registered a high level of satisfaction
among the participating companies, over 125,000 visitors from all over China and from the other
main Asian markets are expected to attend the March rendezvous in Shanghai - the key city for the
Asian economy where the most influential showrooms are located.
The “La Moda Italiana” area located in the Fashion Journey section – International Area, Pavilion 2 will present the 2016/2017 fall/winter collections of clothing, footwear and accessories for men, women
and children of 51 Italian fashion brands of excellence.
The event is the result of the synergy between the Italian government’s Ministero dello Sviluppo
Economico [Ministry for Economic Development], ICE - Italian Trade Agency, Ente Moda Italia,
Sistema Moda Italia and Assocalzaturifici, which together will be continuing the journey they began
in March 2015 in order to present the Italian fashion system to China - one of today’s most interesting
and dynamic markets - in a unitary and synergic way.
“We are putting a lot of energy into preparing this second edition of La Moda Italiana@CHIC”, says
Alberto Scaccioni, CEO of Ente Moda Italia, “our team has built up a collection of brands and
companies characterized by the selection and quality of their products in order to offer as complete an
overview as possible of the style expressed by Italian fashion. A total of 51 brands will be taking part in
this edition confirming the growing interest in the project. With the help of the Chinese organizers we
have also managed to obtain an even more strategic position for the Italian area with an elegant and
functional layout at the center of the exhibition route and in the heart of the international pavilion”.
“After the success of the 2015 edition, once again the ICE-Italian Trade Agency has offered itself as
the ideal partner for Italian firms in the fashion and footwear industries that have set their sights on
China and are looking to Chic in Shanghai in order to seize the business opportunities this market has
to offer,” says the director general, Roberto Luongo. “The network of ITA offices in China,”
continues Luongo, “have confirmed their operational assistance and support for the
internationalization of the Italian fashion-industry SMEs, as always in full synergy with the Sistema
Italia industrial associations and actors”.
“We strongly believe that the second edition of La Moda Italiana@CHIC represents a valuable
opportunity for companies in the Textiles-Fashion industry as it gives them a chance to promote
themselves on the growing Chinese market that is increasingly becoming a driving force on a global
level”, says Claudio Marenzi, president of SMI - Sistema Moda Italia. “This great potential is also
confirmed by the figures which, in the period January - October 2015, showed an increase in exports
to China on the part of our sector companies of 9%, for a value of around 800 million Euros. As the
SMI Federation, we have always supported and promoted initiatives of this caliber because they
maximize the excellence of Made in Italy and offer unique networking opportunities that favor
internationalization, an asset that is essential every day for our own growth”.
“China represents a great opportunity but we have to be able to manage all the problems associated
with this business relationship”, says Annarita Pilotti, president of Assocalzaturifici. “Initiatives like
these, which are the result of the union of all the sector organizations (from luxury to fairs) are vital for
promoting Made in Italy on a market which has always been fascinated by our products. Style, quality
and professionalism continue to be the key to bringing our footwear into this country”.
