How do you tell your children about the Iron Dome?
Everyone in Israel knows it. It's a common knowledge.
What do teachers say and teach at school?
They explain it as part of our life here.
How do Tel Avivi experience it?
They are grateful that Iron Dome exists, as everyone in Israel. It protects us and
we can keep up with our daily routine even when under attack.
Is “ long-distance class,” a common way of teaching in the southern Israel?
No. Only in war time when kids are in shelters all day.
What does it consist of? So Southern children aren’t allowed to go to school?
Last summer, kids in the south could hardly get out of the shelter. They were
attacked by rockets for DAYS and nights.
How do you explain your children a life of missiles, bombs, hatred?
This is our reality and kids share it.
How would you tell Italian students in a few words about this conflict??
Two peoples are fighting for the same piece of land for over 100 years and they
still cannot find a way to share it and split the disputed land into two states
solution.
How do you feel as a mother of 3 sons in the War?I pray that one day SOON this
conflict will be over and both Israelis and Palestinian will have two states, living
side by side. Hopefully, my grandchildren won't have to be soldiers.

1.Come spiega ai suoi figli l’esistenza della cupola di ferro?
In Israele lo sanno tutti, è un dato di fatto, una realtà condivisa
2.E gli insegnanti a scuola in che termini parlano della cupola di ferro?
La considerano e ne parlano come una parte integrante della nostra vita.
3.In che modo gli abitanti di Tel Aviv vivono sotto la cupola di ferro?
Siamo grati che esista, ci protegge e ci consente di vivere la nostra quotidianità anche quando
siamo sotto attacco.
4. “ Le lezioni a distanza “ sono la strategia didattica giornaliera al sud di Israele?
No. Solo in periodi di Guerra, quando i bambini devono rinchiudersi nei rifugi tutto il giorno.
5.Può spiegarci meglio? I bambini che abitano a sud di Israele non possono andare a scuola?
L’estate scorsa, difficilmente hanno potuto abbandonare i rifugi, hanno vissuto sotto attacco dai
missili di Gaza per interi GIORNI E NOTTI…..
6.Come spiega ai suoi figli il senso di una vita sotto i missili, le bombe e l’odio?
Questa è la nostra realtà e i bambini la condividono.
7.Come spiegherebbe agli studenti italiani, in poche parole, il senso di questo conflitto?
Due popoli si contendono lo stesso pezzo di terra da 100 anni, senza riuscire a trovare il modo
di condividerlo, dividendolo in due Stati.
8.Come si sente in quanto madre di 3 figli in Guerra?
Io prego che un giorno, molto PRESTO, questo conflitto finisca e che, Israeliani e Palestinesi
possano vivere in due Stati fianco a fianco. Fortunatamente i miei nipoti non dovranno
arruolarsi e diventare soldati.

Qual è il suo messaggio per i miei etwinners e per le nuove generazioni?
• Insegna ai tuoi studenti ad accogliere il prossimo perché gli esseri umani
sono diversi; c’è chi crede in Dio e chi in Allah; … tutti condividiamo la
stessa esperienza e lo stesso cuore, e non scordiamo mai, quando
vediamo qualcuno diverso da noi, che in realtà è come noi…….
L’esperienza umana è condivisa da tutti coloro che fanno parte della razza
umana, perché la razza umana è una sola; così come l’esperienza umana e
noi tutti siamo come un’orchestra: uno suona il violino, l’altro il piano e poi
c’è il tamburo. Ma tutti suoniamo la stessa musica
Come può l’istruzione prevenire i Totalitarismi?
• L’istruzione ha sempre a che fare con il pericolo dei totalitarismi e della
tirannia, bisogna insegnare il passato per trasmettere la consapevolezza
dei pericoli futuri. Insegna ai tuoi studenti a pensare e ad aver cuore…
sono questi gli antidoti contro tirannia, brutalità e totalitarismi … usa i libri
come veicoli e strumenti di ISTRUZIONE

ABOUT THE POEM ‘ THE MISSILE ‘
The poem was written many years ago, during the second INTIFADA, a wave of terrorism in
Israel involving Palestinian suicide bombers. The deadly toll on both sides was heavy.
Unbearable.
My twins, young at the time, were so scared they did not dare leave the house. I found out that I
too am petrified from the cruel reality outside. I could not tell them "there's no witch under the
carpet" and ease their fears. The fact that I had to tell them to be careful of people was sad and
heart breaking.
The poem is part of a collection titled "The Courage to be Afraid" which was written during
those years. While writing it I shared my own fears with my children and together we tried to
confront them with some humor.
Now, years later, we're facing another wave of terrorism, this time involving young people, even
kids, acting in violence and using knives or scissors as ,means to kill. The chain of violence
doesn't end on one side, because Jewish extremist have their share of committing atrocities. I'm
mostly despaired by the fact that young souls are being manipulated and incited, sometimes by
grownups who push them towards ways of violence. Unfortunately, social media is full of violent
calls.

Peace, my dear young friends, is always a noble cause. Aspiring for making good in this world
among people and nations can and should be our never ending challenge. In Tel Aviv, Gaza,
elsewhere, everywhere, a person is entitled to go out of his house freely, with no fear from his
fellow man. The victims are always those innocent people on both sides who just yearn for good
respectable life. The money invested in weapons should go to better ourselves: Education,
science, culture and values of LIFE instead of death.
I wish all children in the world would be taught the ways of free discussion, open debate, and
find creative and peaceful solutions to conflicts. My dream is that hatred, mistrust and violence
would be eliminated from our dictionary. We need to open ourselves to the other, listen to his
grief and troubles, and always be tolerant to each other's beliefs.
The picture the illustrator chose for the poem are flowers. For me, this is a symbol – pure and
basic – of a new beginning and everlasting blooming of thought.
The elderly generation, grandparents and parents (in my case, my mother who survived the
Holocaust in the most horrific place called "Auschwitz") are wise to hand down their advice.
Losing our divine image during war time is the most catastrophic thing that could happen to
mankind. We should hold on to our hopes of a better future so we won't be lost in the dark. I
call upon all children and of course myself – don’t ever forget that you are human. Let goodness
guide you!
