Biografia

BOTERO Fernando
Pittore e scultore colombiano (Medellìn 1932).
Affascinato dalla pittura spagnola e in particolare da quella italiana del
Quattrocento, di cui ha colto in particolare la capacità di attribuire
eguale importanza al colore e alla forma, ha riscosso un crescente
successo internazionale a partire dal 1958 con la Camera degli sposi, a
cui sono seguite, nel 1959, l'Apoteosi di Ramon Hoyos e la
famosissima Mona Lisa.
Ha saputo creare uno stile personalissimo (riproposto anche nelle
opere di scultura), gonfiando le forme fino al limite del grottesco,
all'insegna di una plasticità costruita sul filo di un sottile umorismo.
Trasferitosi a New York nel 1960, è stato influenzatoda atmosfere
dell'espressionismo astratto e della pop art.
Nel 1966 si è stabilito definitivamente in Europa; nelle esposizioni più
recenti ha riproposto i temi delle prime opere, oggi molto quotate sul
mercato artistico.
