General Objectives:
The course approaches safety and structural design in case of fire. The course focuses on steel
structure and reinforced concrete.
Acquired Skills:
theoretical knowledge of settings of safety, fire action modeling and structural behavior analysis
of constructions under fire conditions;
skills to conceive, design and verify complex constructions under fire conditions;
capacity of judgment and communication of ideas, information, data input, solutions and problems
related to structural safety on which is prominent the action of fire;
development of research activity focused on general fire safety engineering topics.

The exam consists in a spoken test concerning theoretical aspects grounding fire safety analysis and
structural design and in a presentation and discussion of an essay that the student arranges with the
teaching Staff, by expanding topics examined in lectures and exercises. Numerical evaluations are
developed through the codes ANSYS, STRAUS7, NeNASTRAN, ADINA, ABAQUS, FDS, CFAST.
