Giovanni Corradetti & Partners Architecture - Engineering - Industrial design The Giovanni Corradetti & Partners Architettura Ingegneria Design organization was designed and built by Giovanni Corradetti and Ghazi Ben Ahmed. It arises from the union of design experiences gained by Giovanni Corradetti, since 1970, with its two operational structures: - Giovanni Corradetti - Studio di Progettazione e Consulenza www.giovannicorradetti.it , which operates in the fields of Architecture, Town Planning and Engineering - Luna Dura Disegno per il Corpo: www.lunadura.it, which operates in the fields of landscape architecture, interior design, furniture and clothing The aim is to implement a Group of Designers and Companies to work exclusively abroad with Italian artifacts and in close cooperation with professionals and workers in the individual countries, in order to support and increase the technologies transfer and to provide for public and private clients the complete and high quality design services from design to construction and works maintenance through the training of technical staff required for the maintenance and management of carried out works. Pittore, Scultore e Architetto vive e lavora a Firenze. Giovanni Corradetti (Ascoli Piceno 1941) performed classical studies, he attended the University of Florence where he graduated in architecture forming at the Leonardo Savioli's school with whom he collaborated for several years. * G. Corradetti “Progetti 1994 - 2004 ” ATON Edizioni 2004 7 A QUESTION OF METHOD 2 Sergio Martellucci The instruments Corradetti uses to compose space are the para-tactile and the technological, in his effort to formalise his research on the connection between spontaneous massing and the geometric shape and recurrent natural images (the moon the outlines of the hill and anatomic features – the eye the lips) and the intellectual terrain where Corradetti constructs and directs this projects formed on the presupposition that there is no methodology in project planning, The belief is inherited from he lectures given by Leonardo Savioli and confirmed by Corradetti in “Radici”. “According to Savioli there in no method in project planning, the mechanisms necessary to planning are personal and relative to each project (…) Even today I think that few understand his architecture and the importance of what he taught during his lessons”. Corradetti leaves teaching in 1984. He seeks an answer to the problems surrounding the redefinition of art and architecture by returning to work as an architect. Dissatisfied by the worm out dictates of the Modern Movement he opts for an open attitude toward a profession facing the difficulties of finding new solutions to ever varying questions. Diversification, fluctuation, originality are needed by our contemporary multi-ethnic society. The search for different solutions upholds the idea that a repetitive approach, easy to convey is only a sign of intellectual laziness anchored to reactionary, out a date values. Armed with an open mind and great freedom of approach, the absence of ready made rules allows Corradetti to accept new ideas and concepts, often stimulated by his past studies, by his interpersonal relationships and travel. The architect speaks enthusiastically about the ideas and contribution received from his meeting different personalities. He is especially interested in younger people and their message as well as in highly experienced professionals. His studio seems a multi ethnic cultural centre where from difference, ideas form and develop. Corradetti self confident, passes from architecture to art to fashion always with the intent of giving a form to a mobility of life and ideas. Always on the lookout for new stimulus through ideas and intellectual enrichment Corradetti loves to travel “I can’t stay in Florence for more than a month at a time. I must leave, but not possessing a traveller’s soul I use the pretext of work, half a which is true, half invented in my mind”. His favourite destination are deserts, open territories and the birthplaces of Greek mythology and the great classical monuments. Study is also important, the rereading of the classics and fascination with physics are the two poles within which Corradetti forms his poetics, always under continual revision and re-interpretation. These tree facets of his personality are the subsoil of a projectual activity in constant definition, never satisfied, always ready to recognise the possibility of error, just to guarantee innovation and evolution. Solo risalendo all’origine potremo cominciare di nuovo a comunicare. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Sofia Anacalipoli - Critico d’arte * G. Corradetti, Le Radici – Appunti autobiografici – Mostra Palazzo Reale di Caserta 1999 A LIFE OF RESEARCH AND PLANNING Sofia Anacalipoli * “…Be forever ready to set forth, to ask questions , to raise your eyes skywards, to look beyond the horizon. Your strength and your wealth are not what you enjoy now but what you will find in the days to come, by renewing your possessions, your relationships, yourself…” This synthetic prologue proposes a possible guide line to find one’s direction through the works of Giovanni Corradetti, along a path which may become arduous and tortuous. It is enough to pause and study the architectonic structures, the surfaces of the drawings, the volumes of the sculptures to realize that there is never a truly defined point of departure or arrival but a continual opening of starting points to push almost to oblige you to go further. So the apparent unity of the structure dissolves into a thousand force lines which suggest multiple possible and necessary paths to continue forward. Time after time new prospects appear that run along daring designs and offer unexpected glimpses of aerial labyrinths. Magical horizons which seemingly materialize from nothing but which have been constructed on the solid base of Corradetti’s rigorous physical – mathematical and static- structural knowledge. To the spectator there are no easy escape routes, he cannot maintain an anonymous uncommitment It is imperative to continue on, to define precise priorities ( each one his own ). Convinced that enrichment comes from undergoing, not from avoiding the trial. From the intersection of the floors, the colours and the surfaces of the paintings and sculptures and from the continual coming together and separation of the power filled lines, the spatial backbone of architecture, a hammering cry “ Open yourself to discussion, for only then, perhaps, you may begin to comprehend, when your mind is filled with wave after wave of questions without an answer. When all is confusion, uncertain and unstable, that is when you begin to understand. Certainty can only offer you the comfortable shawl of blind ignorance, the cradle of resignation”. These concepts rebound and reflect from the surfaces and planes but above all from the fragmentation of the substance, on the empty rather than on the full, becoming an unceasing echo because there cannot be an embracing silence. And in the apparent chaos of a thousand possible paths the author asks you , insistently, to search for the key to the primary order of things and seems to suggest two elements which constantly appear in his work – the sun and the moon. The male and the female, divided yet yearning toward physical fusion, erupting in an orgasmic explosion which finds its fullest expression the knowledge of the inevitable separation ( song of Baal ) Drama floods through all his works, to be perceived as a dramatical interpretation, born from the need for each single element to become a unity, but with the ever painful knowledge that they will never reach a stable equilibrium, only fleeting moments in which the fury of each single element fuses into an explosive universal harmony. The heaviness of existence is lightened by Corradetti conjurer- juggler by his ability to create a play of perspectives in which the fullness of the male continues into the emptiness of the female in an overlapping of visual stimulation, in an kaleidoscope of shapes rather than colours as to be found in the Water Park and international Business Centre in Moscow and even more so in the ecosustainable structure studied for Fujian 12 During one of our initial meetings in response to one of my questions aimed at a correct understanding of Corradetti’s personality, architect, artist, painter, writer, professor, he in response declared: “ I am Giovanni. I for now am one and I can be architect, artisan, engineer, but tomorrow perhaps there may be a hundred Giovanni in a mirror game of your making, you, standing in front of me”. His ironic and crafty look did not permit objection. One of the main themes of Corradetti’s works, whether it be drawing, sculpture or architecture is to flee from definition, ordained schemes, and pre-constructed codes of communication. Only by going back to the origin may we begin again to communicate. And so a bridge, by definition a transitory passage becomes a meeting place, a rest place, for reflection, free from all earthly ties, provokingly suspended in the air and looking down on the water which is the last of that which goes and the first of that which comes. This is obvious in the bridge of Pertusillo in Basilicata, which is conceived as a complex, multifunctional, urban structure, in which, the road for mechanical transport becomes of secondary importance shaded by multiple possibilities of human action To you who are undertaking this path, a word of advice:”let yourself go and take in what you find, even disregard the few possible interpretations which I have suggested. If you succeed then you too, will be initiated along the peaceless path of doubt and awareness of ignorance”. Alessandro Spagli, The project for the, Waterpark with underground parking, Hotel on lot 4 and the towers for offices and exhibitions on lot no. 20 of the Centre for International Affairs in Moscow are two distinct buildings in both their architectural form and structural conception. They are made of structurally independent elements but yet form a single unity, they blend into a single whole creating an “urban spatiality” whose functions are divided along the roads for both mechanical and outdoor and indoor pedestrian transport. The project tends to insure, a clear altimetrical and planimetrical dislocation of the working parts of the complex yet takes the opportunity to appreciate each part conceiving them, from a formal point of view, as a continuation of the architectural complex as a whole, the clear visibility of the entire architectonic complex both from the moscova and the surrounding roads, the creation of a formal and composite image of the organism, new and up to date in its architectural production without drawing on pre-established designs. 1 – Profilo dalla Moscova / Profile from the Moscova 64 ACQUAPARK E ALBERGO - Centro Internazionale Affari Di Mosca Lotto 4 WATERPARK AND HOTEL - Moscow International Business Centre Lot 4 Altezza mt. 180,00; n° piani 39; superficie totale mq. 136.000; Height m.180,00; no. floors 39 total surface area m2.136.000; 2 – Pianta quota mt 132,40 / Level m.132,40 3 – Pianta quota mt 139,25 / Level m. 139,25 4 – Pianta copertura / Roof level 5 – Vista frontale / Front view 2 3 4 5 65 EDIFICIO PER UFFICI ED ESPOSIZIONE - Centro Internazionale Affari Di Mosca Lotto 20 EXHIBITION AND OFFICE BUILDING – Moscow International Business Centre Lot 20 Altezza mt. 202,20; n° piani 50; superficie totale mq. 146.000; Height m.. 202,20; n° floors 50; total surface area m2. 146.000; 1 2 3 4 1 – Pianta quota mt. 125,40 / Level m. 125,40 2 – Pianta quota mt. 129,90 / Level m. 129,90 3 – Pianta quota mt. 151,20 / Level m. 151,20 4 – Pianta quota mt. 155,20 / Level m. 155,20 5 – Sezione / Section 66 6 - Vista dell’edificio / View of the building 67 DUBAI PEARL Dubai United Arab Emirates DUBAI PEARL Dubai United Arab Emirates Progetto generale/ General Project Collaboratori / Collaborators Ing. Gian Lorenzo Corradetti, Arch. Luigi Dattilo, Arch. Dorotea Gigante, Arch. The project of La Palma, created at sea, concludes on shore. This is achieved through aligning the buildings along the circumference according to an ideal symmetrical axis, their height varying and decreasing toward the sea and the organisation of the commercial and leisure areas. The complex, although made up of buildings which are structurally and functionally different is conceived as single autonomous urban unity, a multifunctional organism, a vertical city. This aspect is accentuated by a horizontal tunnel which, at 150 metres above ground level connects the eleven tower tops. It functions as a pedestrian precinct mechanised by electric shuttles which offer transport from one building to the next, through leisure, commercial and exhibition areas. Alessandro Spagli The urban organism is a horizontal two armed construction which connects Tower A, to be situated on the island in front of the inlet, with the five mainland towers - four Towers “structure B” and one Tower “structure C”, collocated along the perimeter of the tourist port. The two arms, form the urban backbone in which different types of habitations interact with the sections destined to public functions: educational structures starting from nursery school up to High School, structures to house both commercial enterprises and artisans. These arms which are 2.950,00 metres long and vary in width from 80 to 160metres are connected by two transverse constructions. These are designed to host highly specialised functions. In the first, covering a length of 678,00 metres, are foreseen research laboratories, university faculties, and medical facilities. In the second, for a length of 422,00metres, space is dedicated to cultural and leisure functions. The different areas are linked up by electric shuttles .Living areas in the form of 215.552 apartments of 60m2 and 22.400 mini apartments of 30m2 constructed along the arms makes a total housing development surface of 13.605.120m2. Michele Albano, Arch. Luigi Dattilo, Arch. Dorotea Gigante, Arch. Antonio Sanna The City Tower was conceived as a symbol capable of giving an identity to the surrounding urban area. The chosen construction system, the materials used, the functional spaces which are stationed up and down the height of the tower give the work a morphology of particular urban importance, and the size of the construction makes it a reference point for the city and for the surrounding environment. The ground level, altitude –4 m, has been used as the base reference altitude for the height measurements of the tower. From the ground level, which corresponds to the ground floor of the exposition area, the tower measures 450.00 m in height. However, in order to give it greater expressive force, the placement level of the tower is at an altitude of -12 m, meaning that it is placed at 8 metres below the exposition zone and rises up from this area through a circular opening of 51.40 metres in diameter. The call for bids concerns the project of a square with an underground parking of 1650 parking spots. Our goal is to create an architectural proposal, which will allow the restoration of the historic memory of Cyprus while also confronting and resolving in accordance with the legislation and the Eurocodes, the technical problems that pertain to the construction, the operation and the managements of an underground multi-storey parking In order to overcome the legal restrictions concerning the number of storeys, the planning provides a clear separation of the structures of the parking area and of those of the square. This way we construct two neighbouring buildings, structurally and functionally separated from each other: the parking and the square. Dorotea Gigante, Ing. Enrico Marino Arch. Sara Rossi Designing a house is how to sew a dress on people that inhabit it, but with greater complexity, because it assumes that the designer knows above all their "soul" because, in some ways the house becomes their external projection and a symbol of their thinking as well as their physical needs. The house at Somone is destined to an African rooted in the culture of his homeland, but with a thorough understanding of the so-called "Western" thinking. It tried to synthesize the house around these two sensations that simultaneously represent a way of life in close contact both with the natural elements and technology. We have been trying to conceive a house that was African in the conception of space and Western in the use of the needed technology. Free spaces, covered but communicating with the outside world were privileged compared to those whose functions are fixed.
