GUIDELINES FOR POETRY RECITATION COMPETITION
Adjudicators of the Poetry Recitation competition expect the following criteria to be
followed by the students:
• Students are expected to memorize the entire poem. No cue cards or print outs of
the poem can be used during the recitation. An N will be given to students who do
not comply.
• Students must acknowledge the poet and title of the poem.
• Students must deliver the poem with good voice, intonation and relevant expression.
(Not exaggerated and not sung).
• The student’s entire delivery should be respectful and honour the
Italian language and culture.
• A student delivers their recitation in front of a single adjudicator – not an audience.
• The Judge’s decision is final and cannot be disputed.
Recitation awards and certificates are issued as follows:
• A certificate of participation is not given to students who receive an N.
• Certificates are awarded to students who achieve a Merit, Honourable Mention, High
Distinction and Finalist. Participation certificates are awarded to students who
achieve below Merit – but not to students who receive an N or are/were Absent.
• First, Second and Third Prize winners receive a trophy and book. A certificate is also
issued to prize winners. These are issued at the Awards Ceremony at a later date.
Students who achieve a 99 – 100 points are re-called for a Second Round of recitations
to determine the First, Second and Third prize placements at each year level and each
category.

Tal era quivi la quarta famiglia
de l'alto Padre, che sempre la sazia,
mostrando come spira e come figlia.
E Bëatrice cominciò: "Ringrazia,
ringrazia il Sol de li angeli, ch'a questo
sensibil t' ha levato per sua grazia".
Cor di mortal non fu mai sì digesto
a divozione e a rendersi a Dio
con tutto 'l suo gradir cotanto presto,
come a quelle parole mi fec'io;
e sì tutto 'l mio amore in lui si mise,
che Bëatrice eclissò ne l'oblio.

Ci sono cose da fare ogni giorno:
lavarsi, studiare, giocare,
preparare la tavola,
a mezzogiorno.
Ci sono cose da far di notte:
chiudere gli occhi, dormire,
avere sogni da sognare,
orecchie per sentire.

Maschere d’aborigeni
Tu non sei come me: tu sei diverso
alzano polvere
Anch’io sono diverso, siamo in due
nel bosco australiano
di sfrenata danza
mentre il dingo
nasconde il suo osso.
Passa la luna
la rana canta
il lupo rincorre il coniglio
il dingo
ritorna al fosso
per riprendersi
il suo osso.
Ma non sentirti perso
Se metto le mie mani con le tue
Certe cose so fare io, ed altre tu
E messi insieme sappiamo far di più
Tu non sei come me: son fortunato
Davvero ti son grato
Perchè non siamo uguali:
Vuol dire che tutt’e due siamo speciali
