Over the last ten years, significant changes have been taking place within the Chinese economy
and market. At an industrial level, we have seen the progressive growth in added value of the output
produced by local companies. This change was sealed in 2016 with the launch of the 13th Five-Year Plan,
which places increasingly greater emphasis on innovation and respect for the environment.
Over the same period, the presence of Politecnico di Milano in China has also been evolving. From
its first important agreement with TongJi University (2006), our university has consolidated strategic
partnerships with the C9 universities, has opened - in 2012 - a Chinese WFOE in Beijing and now intends
to open a branch in Shanghai together with creating a Joint School of Industrial Design and Innovation
Centre in Xi’an (together with Xi’an Jiao Tong University, April 2016).
In this framework, Politecnico di Milano is organising a conference to:
set out the situation concerning the challenges that companies based in China will face in the coming
years and how the University can play an important supporting role.
celebrate the presence of Politecnico di Milano in China and at the same time outline - together with
the large industrial community in the Shanghai area - the future challenges that can be met by the
University working alongside these companies.
