Jupe, Pauline van Dongen, Elsien Gringhuis e Maryam Kordbacheh.
Roma, Parigi, Firenze e New York.
ADO LES SCENTS by Hyun Yeu
Uomo a Firenze.
Jupe
In 2008 Pauline graduated with a BA in Fashion Design from the renowned Artez,
Academy of the Arts in Arnhem, the Netherlands. It was there that she first
developed an interest in developing her designs by draping fabrics directly on a
mannequin. This is how she could translates her conceptual approach into a visual
aesthetic around the body.
During her Masters Program at the Fashion Institute Arnhem she was offered a shoe
design course. Here she discovered a love for product design and also further
developed her personal signature that has been described as “organic science”.
Working with unconventional or new materials triggers her to explore and research
the processing and finishing in a garment and allows her to work like a researcher.
Her fascination for the relation between human and their surroundings is something
that keeps feeding her inspiration.
In 2010 she graduated with her collection „Morphogenesis‟ in which she
researched the space between a body and a garment. By working with sculptural
shapes, forms like capsules floating around the body, she examines this void. This
has not always been a point of focus within fashion. In that sense she wants to
present a unique proposal, since her designs don't refer to the classic Western
tradition, whereby clothing casts the body in a certain form. Pauline prefers the
idea that the body is what gives the clothes a certain volume. This, to her, is more
than just clothing, it is a way of seeing and experiencing shapes and volumes
around a moving body.
Pauline‟s work focuses on the surface, she uses fabric as a starting point. Tactility,
texture and no-frills modernity are the essence of her work. As she continues to
explore the use of unconventional materials and new ways of construction she
wants to create “a proposal for the future”.
Elsien Gringhuis
After Elsien Gringhuis successfully graduated in 2008 at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in
Arnhem, she presented her first independent collection during Amsterdam
International Fashion Week in July 2009. She won several international prizes and
awards including the Createurope award for „Best Avantgarde Designer‟ in Berlin,
the camera nazionale della moda award for „most creative collection of the
year‟, Mittelmoda, Italy. And the first prize for the HEMA design contest with a
sustainable raincoat. Elsien Gringhuis style is known for the choice of smart
simplicity while a complex and innovative construction lies behi nd the simple eying
silhouette. She is inspired by shape and construction where use of material holds a
great share to support the created silhouette.
Other sources of inspiration are the contrast of human power and vulnerability and
how we dominate the world with technique. This perspective is reflected in the
sharp angular, industrial and futuristic looks.
She uses sustainable and high quality fabrics like bamboo, wool, pressed silks,
leather and hand coated fabrics.
Her work keeps renewing as she is on a constant quest for new construction techniques. At
the same time she tries to make simplicity something special and therefore she stays loyal
to the art of the classics. She creates her architectonic look from traditional craftsmanship
and her unique coupe construction without using one seam too many.
Maryam Kordbacheh
The young Dutch designer Maryam Kordbacheh, a graduate Master from Fashion
Institute, Arnhem, was also selected to participate at the 2011 Festival of Hyeres.
Maryam Kordbacheh's collection is inspired by the organic formation of nature
which evokes irrevocably sensual shapes. The craftsmanship plays an important
role. The handcrafted garments, originally molded from a single length of fabric,
appear extremely refined and delicate. The colors are handmade with organic
pigments or natural dyes like tea, coffee and herbs.
"The allure of a design resides in its purity. I mold and discover my own patterns.
Experimentation, problem solving and searching for a personal way to realize my
designs are most important to me. My collection, rather than being clothes, is a
kind of intimate sculptures".
