PROGRAM FINALIZED FOR
WORLD ORCHESTRA FOR PEACE PERFORMANCE
ON OCTOBER 21, 2012
CHICAGO — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association announces the complete
program for the World Orchestra for Peace performance as part of the Symphony Center
Presents Orchestra series appearance on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at 1:15 p.m.
Conductor Valery Gergiev leads the World Orchestra for Peace in a celebratory tribute to
former CSO Music Director Sir Georg Solti on what would have been his 100th birthday,
highlighting some of his favorite guest artists and repertoire. Maestro Gergiev and the
orchestra will be joined by soprano Angela Gheorghiu and bass René Pape, as well as
alumni musicians of the Solti Accademia and Solti Foundation US: soprano Tereza
Gevorgyan, mezzo-soprano Matilda Paulsson, tenor Roberto Gómez-Ortiz, baritone Ross
Ramgobin and conductor Cristian Macelaru.
The orchestra performs the overture from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Strauss’ Don
Juan, the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra.
Gheorghiu, Pape and the Solti alumni are the soloists for beloved operatic excerpts. Papé
performs “In diesen heil'gen Hallen” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Gheorghiu solos on
““Addio del passato” from Verdi’s La traviata, and the singers join forces for “Là ci darem
la mano” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. The alumni musicians are featured on “Bella figlia
dell’amore” from Verdi’s Rigoletto. Lady Solti appears as presenter.
