FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 27, 2012 Press Contacts: Rachelle Roe Maggie Berndt PROGRAM FINALIZED FOR WORLD ORCHESTRA FOR PEACE PERFORMANCE ON OCTOBER 21, 2012 CHICAGO — The Chicago Symphony Orchestra Association announces the complete program for the World Orchestra for Peace performance as part of the Symphony Center Presents Orchestra series appearance on Sunday, October 21, 2012, at 1:15 p.m. Conductor Valery Gergiev leads the World Orchestra for Peace in a celebratory tribute to former CSO Music Director Sir Georg Solti on what would have been his 100th birthday, highlighting some of his favorite guest artists and repertoire. Maestro Gergiev and the orchestra will be joined by soprano Angela Gheorghiu and bass René Pape, as well as alumni musicians of the Solti Accademia and Solti Foundation US: soprano Tereza Gevorgyan, mezzo-soprano Matilda Paulsson, tenor Roberto Gómez-Ortiz, baritone Ross Ramgobin and conductor Cristian Macelaru. The orchestra performs the overture from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Strauss’ Don Juan, the Adagietto from Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 and Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra. Gheorghiu, Pape and the Solti alumni are the soloists for beloved operatic excerpts. Papé performs “In diesen heil'gen Hallen” from Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Gheorghiu solos on ““Addio del passato” from Verdi’s La traviata, and the singers join forces for “Là ci darem la mano” from Mozart’s Don Giovanni. The alumni musicians are featured on “Bella figlia dell’amore” from Verdi’s Rigoletto. Lady Solti appears as presenter.
