Aperte le iscrizioni per partecipare al 3° incontro mondiale sui paesaggi terrazzati
Dopo le edizioni cinese (Mengzi 2010) e peruviana (Cusco 2014), il 3° incontro mondiale
sui paesaggi terrazzati si terrà nell'ottobre 2016 in Italia.
L'incontro sarà un’occasione unica per chi vuole partecipare attivamente alla generazione
di idee e possibili scenari per il futuro dei paesaggi terrazzati in Italia e nel mondo, per
dare un forte impulso all'impegno internazionale dedicato alla comprensione, protezione e
valorizzare di questi paesaggi e della loro polifunzionalità. Prendersi cura dei paesaggi
terrazzati significa riconoscere che questi possano assolvere ad istanze diverse:
conservazione di un’eredità storico-culturale, funzionalità ambientale e idrogeologica,
miglioramento della qualità della vita attraverso produzioni agroalimentari di pregio, senso
di appartenenza e forme di sviluppo locale sostenibile.
Il 3° incontro mondiale sui paesaggi terrazzati si terrà dal 6 al 15 ottobre 2016 a
Venezia (6 e 7 ottobre), Padova (13-15 ottobre) e in dieci sedi locali distribuite su tutta
la penisola (8-12 ottobre).
In ciascuna della sedi locali sarà approfondito un aspetto specifico della complessa realtà
dei paesaggi terrazzati: a Trieste si discuterà di “ecologia e biodiversità”, a TopolòDordolla di “comunicazione artistica e culturale”, nel Canale di Brenta di “innovazione
agronomica e sociale”, in Valpolicella-Valdobbiadene di “qualità del cibo”, a Trento di
“norme e politiche”, in val d’Ossola di “costruzione e gestione dei muri a secco”, nel
Canavese e in Valle d’Aosta di “paesaggio e turismo”, a Chiavari-Lavagna-Vernazza di
“ambiente e rischio idrogeologico”, ad Ischia e nella Costiera amalfitana di “patrimonio e
paesaggi rurali storici”, a Pantelleria di “raccolta dell’acqua, resilienza e aridocoltura”.
Il metodologia complessiva di lavoro dell'ncontro combinerà conferenze tematiche,
scambio di esperienze in forma diretta, momenti di scambio di conoscenze (dare-to-share
fair), dialogo con specialisti, dibattiti in piccoli gruppi, visite e incontri con testimoni locali,
interventi di key note speakers in occasione delle sezioni plenarie di Venezia e Padova.
I partecipanti possono iscriversi entro il 30 aprile 2016 (early registration) o il 15
giugno 2016 (late registration) al programma completo del'incontro (“10 giorni per i
paesaggi terrazzati”) o unicamente alla sessione plenaria a Padova (3 giorni).
L'organizzazione dell'incontro è curata dalla Sezione Internazionale e Italiana
dell'Alleanza Mondiale per i Paesaggi Terrazzati (ITLA), dalla Regione del Veneto,
dall'Università di Padova e dallo IUAV di Venezia, in collaborazione con Italia Nostra,
WWF Italia, Club Alpino Italiano e Slow Food, CNR Irpi.

Herewith the organising committee of the Third World Encounter on Terraced Landscapes
announces the next World Meeting to be held from October 6 to 15 of 2016 in Italy.
The Third World Meeting on Terraced landscapes is organized by the Italian Branch of the
International Terraced Landscape Alliance, which was legally founded in November 2011
in Arnasco (Savona) following the First International Conference held in China. The five
founder bodies are the Cooperativa Olivicola di Arnasco (SV), Arnasco Municipality,
Consorzio della Quarantina (GE), Veneto Region and University of Padova.
The design of the format of this unique international encounter and the 10 days program
is a sequence of interactive spaces
in Venice (2 days), 10 different Field Sites all over Italy (5 days), and at the University of
Padua (3 days).

We trust in the powerful energy/inspiration/synergy coming from sharing experiences and
knowledge with different actors who are concerned and have made their choice regarding
the continuity of terraces in the future. For that purpose we offer an inspiring selection of
field sites and topics that you can choose according to your knowledge and experience
and where you want to learn and contribute most.
We shall start the Third Encounter on October 6th in Venice with the exchange of
experiences from terraced landscapes worldwide, will learn about the program
and prepare our field trips on the 7th, then from 8th till 12the be in the field attending
thematic workshops, where everybody registered can present their testimony,
research, experience and discuss with local farmers, stone masons, leaders, activists.
From 13th till 15th October we rejoin the Conference on Terraced Landscapes in Padua
to listen to key note speakers, attend the Food and Culture Fair, participate in thematic
workshops and contribute to the Action Plan to protect, preserve and promote terraced
landscapes and cultures in the near future. We also aim at organising a Farmer Forum of
the guardians of terraced Landscapes from all over the world.

We invite all participants to be active and choose one of the 10 thematic workshops which
will simultaneously take place in 10 different Italian terraced areas between the 8th and the
12th of October 2016. It is possible to participate at the thematic session as listeners or
observers or as speakers,presenting a paper on the specific theme of the field trip. We will
select the most outstanding papers for a book publication to be edited after the Encounter.
The outcome of the scientific speeches, fieldtrips, and workshops with stakeholders and
forums developed in the thematic session will be presented at the plenary session in
Padua, from 13th to 15th of October. Due to logistical needs, the participation is limited to
20 persons for each field trip. It is not possible to participate at more than one thematic
workshop.
There are several side events of the Third World Encounter like a video competition,
a photo concours to be included in a 2017 Terraced Landscapes and
Cultures Calendar, photo exhibition, mapping and book project…

The organising committee proposes also a preparatory workshop in April 2016 in Trieste for
European activists and researchers (see separate announcement).
The committee will meet in Venice early February to continue designing the specific parts of the
programme. We also will discuss the financial possibilities to invite farmers and stone masons
(constructors) to ITLA 2016. If you can sponsor special innovating farmers from world wide
