ENGLISH in ITALY TODAY – L`INGLESE nell`ITALIA
ENGLISH in ITALY TODAY – L’INGLESE nell’ITALIA ODIERNA
There are a number of reasons why so many
English words now appear so often in our
everyday speech and writing here in Italy.
Perhaps for ease of explanation or description,
or if an Italian equivalent is not available or less
precise, for example.
What follows is a list of common English words,
terms and expressions frequently used in
everyday Italian.
This compilation is the work of second year
students at the Liceo Scientifico/Sportivo
‘E.Fermi’ in Catanzaro Lido, and was created
under the supervision of Prof. P.J. Richmond as
an integral part of the curriculum dedicated to
increasing the students’ crossover knowledge,
comprehension and use of English, in those
hours dedicated to ‘Potenziamento’.
The students who observed and collected the
words that feature in this compilation drew on
a variety of sources, including Internet,
newspapers, magazines and journals, comics,
books, advertising material, radio, television
and specialist texts.
Obviously not all the students claim to use
every word that features in this listing; this is a
subjective matter according to the individuals’
interests and lifestyle, although their
understanding of the sense and meaning of
each term in context has improved measurably.
The collection features many words that are an
integral part of our young people’s vocabulary,
but also reflects the wide range of professional
fields and special interests that continue to
contribute to our changing world and, as a
result, to our evolving individual vocabularies. It
must, therefore, be considered as a work in
progress, to which others will make additional
contributions in the future as human knowledge
expands.
Ci sono vari motivi per spiegare perché così
tante parole inglesi appaiano così spesso qui, in
‘Potenziamento’.
Gli alunni che hanno osservato e raccolto le
parole che appaiano in questa raccolta hanno
fatto uso di una varietà di fonti, compresi
Internet, quotidiani, riviste e giornali, fumetti,
libri, materiali pubblicitari, radio, televisione e
testi specializzati.
Non tutti gli studenti rivendicano l’utilizzo di
ogni parola che appare in questo elenco,
ovviamente, in quanto l’utilizzo è soggettivo e
dipende dallo stile di vita e gli interessi
dell’individuo, sebbene la loro comprensione
del senso e significato di ciascun termine nei
contesti è migliorato notevolmente.
Nella raccolta appaiano molti termini che fanno
parte del vocabolario dei nostri giovani, ma
riflette anche l’ampia gamma di campi e
interessi particolari che continuano a
contribuire alle evoluzioni in questo nostro
mondo e, di seguito, quindi, all’evolversi del
nostro lessico individuale.
L’elenco deve essere considerato, quindi, come
un opera in corso, al quale altri aggiungeranno
contributi in futuro mentre la conoscenza degli
esseri umani cresce ancora.
