Università degli Studi di Salerno Erasmus+ Programme International students mobility Academic year 2014-2015 Before leaving Application Form Procedure In order to be accepted, your home University must send an official nomination to the International Relations – Erasmus Office ([email protected]). Once nominated, you will receive all necessary information by email and you can proceed with the online Application Form. It is very important for you go through the procedure described below, otherwise we cannot register your application in our system. 1. Go to the following link for registration: http://esse3web.unisa.it/unisa/Home.do?cod_lingua=eng (available from 02/05/2014); 2. Click on Registration to obtain a Username and Password; 3. Once registered, login and click on International Mobility to fill in the Application Form for Incoming Students; 4. Print a paper version of the Application Form; 5. As soon as the hard copy of the Application Form is received, the names of the accepted students will be published on the following website: http://www.international.unisa.it/studenti/inc_era_studies_list. Please select “PRIVATE”, since accommodation is not guaranteed by the University. Deadline Application Form: - 15/06/2014: I semester and whole academic year; - 15/11/2014: II semester. Please note that applications received after the above mentioned deadlines will NOT be processed. Information for non EU students: Students from non EU countries, will receive an invitation letter from the University of Salerno after having received the hard copy of the Application Form. Afterwards students must contact the Italian Embassy or Consulate in order to obtain the necessary VISA. Before leaving for Italy non EU students must have: - a valid passport; - a Visa issued by the Embassy or Consulate; - a health insurance. All the above mentioned documents will enable students to set up the procedure to apply for a residence permit (Permesso di soggiorno), which is compulsory. Students will be charged of about € 153,50 for this residence permit. The cost of a single room in a private furnished flat is around € 250 per month, for a double room the price is around € 200 per month (fees are excluded). Closed on Wednesday. Halls of Residence You can also apply for the halls of residence on Campus, managed by A.D.I.S.U. (www.adisu.sa.it), but only a small number of Halls of Residence may be given to incoming students and only for a period of study lasting not less than a whole academic year (ten months). Cost for accommodation in the Halls of Residence is: € 210 per person in a three bedroom flat, € 260 per person in a one bedroom flat (fees included). Please note that the accommodation in the halls of residence is not guaranteed. Upon your arrival We suggest you to stay at the Youth Hostel “Ave Gratia Plena Minor”, for the first nights. The cost is € 12,50 per night. Academic calendar All courses are, usually, organized in two semesters: 1st semester Courses: September/October – December/January Examination period: January/February/March 2nd semester Courses: February/March – May/June Examination period: May/June/July/September Most courses last one semester but there are also courses that last for the whole academic year. The beginning of each semester may vary, depending on each Department. Updated information will be published on their websites. The chosen courses must be listed in your Learning Agreement before your departure and approved by both universities. The Learning Agreement can be modified at the beginning of each semester, but all changes have to be approved. The results of the passed exams are given with a mark based on the national system (in Italy marks are out of 30, with 18 as the pass mark). ECTS ECTS is the English acronym of “European Credits Transfer System” and it is fully adopted by the University of Salerno. The credits are used to show the quantity of work carried out by the student. 1 ECTS credit corresponds to 25 hours of student’s work. The workload undertaken by the student in the academic year includes: participation in class (frontal lessons), practical involvement, seminars and independent study. Academic tutor The academic tutor is responsible for all academic issues (learning agreement, courses to be taken etc.). Founded in 1968, it is ideally linked to the “Schola Medica Salernitana”, one of the oldest European institutions of the Middle ages closed in 1811. The University is located in the Irno Valley (16 Km away from the city of Salerno) and has two Campuses (one in Fisciano and one in Baronissi) that have grown over time and established themselves within the Southern Italian University context as an important reference point. Therefore, while referring to an illustrious past and inspired by numerous experiences that have characterized their development, the Campuses have developed as a modern innovative University in contemporary society, with high educational standards, serving all the needs of its numerous students, with a wide choice of educational programs and multiple and efficient services. International Focus The University of Salerno is strongly committed to the implementation of International Relations and in developing international skills of both incoming and outgoing students. It also pays great attention to the integration process of its incoming students. To this end the University organizes intensive Italian Language courses at the beginning of each semester and sets up agreements with international students’ associations. Transportation The nearest airport is the Airport of Salerno – Costa d’Amalfi (www.aeroportosalerno.it). Also the Airport of Naples – Napoli Capodichino (www.gesac.it) handles lots of European destinations. From the airport it is possible to reach the main train station in Naples (Napoli Centrale) by taxi or by bus (ANM number 3S) or Alibus. From Naples you can get to Salerno in around 45-60 minutes by train (www.fsitaliane.it) or with the SITA bus company (www.sitasudtrasporti.it). If you are arriving at Roma Ciampino or Fiumicino airport (www.adr.it) you should go by bus or train to the main train station in Rome (Roma Termini) and get to Salerno by train; it takes about 2 hours 45 minutes. The CSTP Bus Service (www.cstp.it) goes to and from Salerno every 20 minutes. A free ecological bus service runs on campus linking the different University buildings. It is absolutely necessary to buy the ticket before getting on the bus and validate it as soon as you get on the bus. Daily tickets and season tickets may be bought: - at the train Station; - at various tobacconists; - at the Bus Terminal (Fisciano Campus) from Monday to Friday between 8:00 a.m. and 7:15 p.m. The cost of a one way ticket is € 1,30. A weekly season ticket costs € 10,80. The cost of a monthly ticket is € 32,20.
