Old(vecchio, grande di età) è un aggettivo monosillabico; i monosillabi formano il comparativo
aggiungendo -ED “più grande” old+ er

ATT. non dimenticare che nei comparativi la preposizione di (che precede il secondo termine di
paragone - Bill) si traduce con THAN

COMPARATIVO DI MAGGIORANZA
1) Si aggiunge il suffisso -ER agli avverbi e agli aggettivi quando sono monosillabi

Se l’aggettivo termina con una consonante preceduta da un’unica vocale la
consonante finale si raddoppia
 big - bigger
fat - fatter
red - redder
la “e”muta cade nei monosillabi
 large - larger
2) Si aggiunge “ER” anche quando gli aggettivi o avverbi BISILLABICI finendo in
Y-LE-ER-OW

Y(la y si trasforma in “I” )
Per tutti gli altri aggettivi o avverbi polisillabici il comparativo di maggioranza si ottiene
premettendo –MORE

Riferito a sostantivi e a verbi il comparativo di maggioranza si forma con “more”
Es: studia di più
He studies more
Than = di che, che non, di quello che (non), di quanto(non)
Es: di comparativi di maggioranza.
