letter from the Primary Head Teacher

Dear Parents,
I am writing to briefly introduce myself and open channels of communication.
My name is Daniel Cox and I will be the new Headteacher at St. Thomas's starting on August
25th. On my recent visits to the school I have felt very welcomed by students, parents,
teachers, administration as well as other staff. Thank you! I am delighted for the opportunity to
build on the achievements already made at St. Thomas's since Katharine Ludlow helped found
the school. During the next months I aim to make the transitional phase as smooth as possible
by listening to the St. Thomas's community and giving priority to the most pressing needs of
the students and their learning.
To sum up my background briefly: I grew up mainly in London, but am American/German by
nationality. I feel that I have quite a lot in common with you children because I too grew up
bilingually: I was born in Boston, USA but my first language was German. I have been living in
Italy for 8 years now and am married with one daughter. My wife Monica and I are very excited
to be moving to Viterbo from Rome in the next few weeks!
I am currently finishing a Masters in English Literature, and hold a Postgraduate Certificate in
Primary Education. I have been working in education for eleven years and have worked in
English schools with the National Curriculum as well as international schools with the IB's
Primary Years Program.
As Headteacher at St. Thomas's I intend to visit classrooms and collaborate with teachers as
much as possible so that your children are getting the best learning experience possible. I
intend to try to get to know all students at St. Thomas’s as soon as possible so that the school
can meet their individual needs. For me the starting point of a school are the children and it will
be a privilege to help your children grow and learn. When working at St. Thomas’s and making
any decision this will always be my first consideration: how will this decision benefit this
individual student and the students as a whole?

Cari genitori,
con la presente desidero presentarmi brevemente ed aprire i nostri canali di comunicazione.
Mi chiamo Daniel Cox e sarò il nuovo Direttore didattico della St. Thomas's a partire dal 25
agosto p.v. Ho già avuto occasione di passare qualche giornata alla St.Thomas’s dove sono
stato accolto con calore da studenti, genitori, insegnanti, dall’amministrazione e da tutto il
resto del personale.
Vi ringrazio e sono contento dell’opportunità che mi è stata data di poter ulteriormente
sviluppare e lavorare al raggiungimento degli obiettivi formativi già attuati da Ms Katharine
Ludlow fin dalla fondazione della scuola. Nei prossimi mesi lavorerò al fine di rendere questo
passaggio più graduale e sereno possibile dando voce a tutta la comunità della St. Thomas's
con priorità per gli studenti e le loro necessità formative.
Vi riassumo brevemente il mio background: sono cresciuto principalmente a Londra, ma sono
di nazionalità Americana/Tedesca. Con i vostri bambini ho molto da condividere poichè anche
io sono cresciuto in un ambiente bilingue: sono nato a Boston (USA) ma la mia prima lingua
era il tedesco. Vivo in Italia da ormai 8 anni, sono sposato e ho una bimba. Io e mia moglie
Monica siamo molto contenti di trasferirci a Viterbo da Roma!
Attualmente sto completando un Master in Letteratura Inglese ed ho un Diploma di post-laurea
in Formazione Primaria. Lavoro nel campo dell’insegnamento da 11 anni ed ho lavorato in
varie scuole sia con il curriculum nazionale che internazionale seguendo il PYP
dell’International Baccalaurate.
Nella mia veste di Direttore didattico della St. Thomas's lavorerò a stretto contatto con i
docenti in classe e per la programmazione con l’obiettivo di fornire sempre maggiori e migliori
esperienze formative ai vostri bambini. Farò il possibile per imparare a conoscere nel più
breve tempo possibile tutti i bambini della scuola singolarmente per rispondere a tutte le loro
necessità. Per me il punto di partenza di ogni scuola sono loro e sarà un privilegio aiutarli a
crescere e ad imparare. Nel mio lavoro alla St. Thomas’s qualsiasi decisione sarà sempre
rivolta principalmente ai bambini: in che modo questa decisione aiuterà un singolo studente o
tutti gli studenti nel loro insieme?
