Liam Payne (nato il 29 agosto 1993, Wolverhampton,UK). Ogni membro si era
presentato come solista alle audizioni per il programma X Factor UK superando
ogni selezione ma, al momento del bootcamp tutti e cinque vennero eliminati, per
poi essere ripescati dal giudice Simon Cowell e uniti in un gruppo. Dopo essersi
classificati terzi, ottengono un contratto discografico con la Sony Music e la Syco
Music e partecipano, con altri concorrenti del programma, all’ X Factor tour, con
diverse tappe in Gran Bretagna e Irlanda. A settembre 2011 rilasciano il loro primo
singolo, “What makes you beautiful”, con il quale battono il record di vendite nella
prima settimana di rilascio nella storia della Sony. A novembre 2011 esce il loro
secondo singolo “Gotta be you”, seguito da loro primo album in studio, “Up all
night”, che contiene canzoni scritte da artisti come Ed Sheeran e Kelly Clarkson. Tra
dicembre 2011 e gennaio 2012 si esibiscono in tour per la Gran Bretagna. A
Febbraio 2012 pubblicano il loro terzo singolo, “One thing”. Il 21 febbraio 2012 la
band partecipa ai Brit Awards aggiudicandosi il premio di “Best British Single”, e in
quell’occasione annunciano il loro Arena Tour in Gran Bretagna e in Irlanda che si
svolgerà nel 2013. Dopodiché, firmano un contratto con la Columbia Records, che li
porta in cima alle classifiche americane. Il 17 febbraio tornano in Italia come ospiti
del Festival di Sanremo cantando “What makes you beautiful”. Sempre nel 2012
vincono tre premi ai Teen Choice Awads, ancora tre ai Video Music Awards e si
aggiudicano due categorie agli European Music Awards. Il 12 agosto 2012 si
esibiscono alla chiusura delle Olimpiadi di Londra. Il 20 settembre 2012 esce il
singolo “Live while we’re young” e il 29 novembre “Little things”, estratti dal loro
secondo album “Take me home”, uscito il 13 novembre. Il 1 novembre i One
Direction tornano in Italia come ospiti della trasmissione X Factor Italia esibendosi
con “Live while we’re young”. Nel 2013 partirà il “Take me home” tour, con il quale
la band si esibirà in tutto il mondo. Sono previste due tappe in Italia: a Verona il 19
maggio e a Milano il 20 maggio.
