nvestire per crescere è da sempre la filosofia
che muove La Leonessa, un'azienda la cui produzione è
finalizzata al "movimento" e che proprio per questo ha
idee sempre in movimento.
Negli ultimi anni gli investimenti hanno raggiunto percentuali molto elevate rispetto al fatturato, permettendo
un aumento impressionante della capacità produttiva.
Una capacità produttiva che si è notevolmente sviluppata
anche con l'entrata in funzione del nuovo impianto di
tempra a induzione (nella foto qui a fianco), che per le
sue caratteristiche avanzate ci permette di soddisfare i massimi standard di qualità, che sono richiesti per le applicazioni più gravose dei cuscinetti su alcuni tipi di macchine movimento terra.
Grazie queste innovazioni ma anche all'ottimo andamento del mercato, per il 2007 le
previsioni dei volumi di produzione per i
cuscinetti di base sono del 70 per cento
superiori al volume del 2005. Una crescita importante che avvicina la realizzazione dell'obiettivo programmato dall'amministratore delegato Tommaso
Ghirardi di raddoppiare il volume della
produzione nel breve volgere di soli tre
anni. Investendo per crescere, La
Leonessa non solo è sempre in movimento, ma anticipa anche il futuro.

he philosophy that moves La Leonessa, a company
whose products are used for "motion" and, for this reason, always has ideas in motion, is investing for growth.
In recent years, our investments have reached a very
high percentage of sales, allowing us to highly increase
our production capacity. A production capacity that
will also be significantly expanded when the new induction hardening equipment (in the photo to the side)
comes on-line; its advanced features will lead to the
higher quality required by the heaviest bearings applications,
such as on some types of earthmoving equipment.
Thanks to these innovations, as well as an excellent
market trend, we expect our basic production of bearings
in 2007 to be 70 percent higher than 2005. This is significant
growth that brings us close to achieving the objective set
by Managing Director Tommaso Ghirardi to double our
production in just three years. By investing for growth,
La Leonessa not only keeps moving but also anticipates
the future.

rom Carpenedolo to Carpenedolo by way of the Boards of Directors of
the most prestigious companies of the Province of Brescia. Giovanni
Schinelli has come "home" to lead the La Leonessa Group to new markets.
It was fate for someone like him, used to always having his hand on the tiller, whether it's a maintenance department or a colossus like Lucchini. In
fact, La Leonessa's new Managing Director started his career at the bottom.
In 1970, Lucchini of Sarezzo hired him as an electrician. Then, exploiting
his electrical technician's diploma, he moved to Lucchini of Settimo
Torinese.
In 1979, he has the opportunity to work as maintenance manager at Alfa
Acciai. It was an excellent training ground, thanks to the extraordinarygrowth of the steel industry in that period.
In1987, he returned to Lucchini through the front door, when they offered
to him the position of Group General Director. In 1994, he accepted the
position of General Director and CEO of FAD, left by his friend Marino
Pasotti. Then, when the group passed to the control of the GKN Group, he
returned to the Lucchini Group once again, to work for Luigi Lucchini ("A
person with great human values", Schinelli recalls) who appointed him the
President of Piombino. Alongside Bondi, the future craftsman of
Parmalat's rebirth, Schinelli was personally involved in the difficult rescue
of the Leghorn plant.

Giovanni Schinelli è tornato a "casa" per traghettare verso nuovi mercati il
gruppo "Leonessa". Era destino per uno come lui, abituato ad avere sempre
fra le mani un timone, fosse quello di un reparto di manutenzione o di un
colosso come la Lucchini. Già, perchè la carriera del nuovo amministratore
delegato della Leonessa è cominciata dal basso.
Nel 1970 è stato assunto come elettricista alla Lucchini di Sarezzo. Poi, facendo fruttare il diploma di perito elettrotecnico, il salto di qualità con l'esperienza nella Lucchini di Settimo Torinese.
Nel '78 ha l'opportunità di entrare nell'Alfa Acciai come responsabile alla
manutenzione. Un'autentica palestra manageriale alla luce dello straordinario periodo di sviluppo vissuto all'epoca dall'industria siderurgica. Nel 1987
il rientro dalla porta principale alla Lucchini, che gli affida la poltrona di
direttore centrale del gruppo. Nel 1994 accetta l'incarico di direttore generale e amministratore delegato della Fad, guidata dall'amico Marino Pasotti.
Poi, quando l'azienda passa sotto il controllo del gruppo Gkn, un nuovo
ritorno al Gruppo Lucchini, con il cavalier Luigi Lucchini ("Una persona di
grandissimi valori umani", ricorda Schinelli) che lo nomina amministratore
delegato dello società di Piombino. Accanto a Bondi, futuro artefice della
rinascita della Parmalat, Schinelli partecipa in prima persona al difficile salvataggio dello stabilimento livornese.
Ora l'approdo alla holding di Carpenedolo, il suo paese. Un'altra sfida da vincere in due anni. Il piano industriale biennale del Gruppo Leonessa è infatti

ambizioso. Ampliare la gamma di prodotti per proteggersi da un mercato
sempre più aggressivo e potenziare il proprio core-business investendo nel
ramo delle energie alternative e in particolare del settore eolico e negli asset
navale e petrolchimico.
Una sfida che parte su basi solide: "La Leonessa è un'azienda con grandi
potenzialità sia nelle persone sia nella tecnologia produttiva - afferma
Schinelli -. C'è un'importante possibilità di sviluppo di mercati, ma per poterla cogliere serve un consolidamento dei valori acquisiti e una crescita sul
piano dell'industrializzazione"
L'obiettivo dichiarato? Raddoppiare il fatturato, il MOL e la produzione incrementando anche il numero di addetti del gruppo. "Siamo a un passaggio
cruciale per lo sviluppo della nostra holding - spiega l'amministratore delegato Tommaso Ghirardi - per questo abbiamo voluto affidarci a un manager
di consumata esperienza. Abbiamo avuto modo di apprezzare già le qualità
di Schinelli che riteniamo sia la persona giusta per assecondare le ambizioni
di sviluppo della nostra holding. Dopo il consolidamento delle basi finanziarie la Leonessa è matura per un nuovo salto di qualità che la porti a navigare nei mercati extracontinentali".
Il "risiko" si giocherà nei Paesi emergenti e in particolare le aree dell'Est e
dell'Oriente quali Cina e India, che a seconda delle situazioni possono essere mercati da penetrare o partner industriali con cui avviare sinergie. Da
Carpenedolo a Carpenedolo, insomma, passando per il resto del mondo.
Proprio come Giovanni Schinelli. Tornato a casa per contribuire alla crescita
di un'industria del suo paese.

itself against an increasingly aggressive market and strengthening its core
business by investing in the alternative energy division, particularly, wind
energy and in ship and petrochemical assets. A challenge that is starting
from a solid base: According to Schinelli, "La Leonessa is a company with
great potential in terms of both personnel and production technology.
There are important market opportunities but taking advantage of them
requires consolidating our acquired values and grown on the level of
industrialization."
The stated objective? Doubling sales, GOM (Gross Operating Margin) and

la divisione oleodinamica con una particolare attenzione alla realizzazione
dei tubi rigidi sagomati a disegno o a campione.
E proprio grazie agli investimenti effettuati nella divisione tubi sagomati ora
è in grado di offrire al mercato degli OEM la realizzazione di tubi rigidi sagomati e raccordati a disegno o a campione oppure con la prototipazione direttamente a bordo macchina. Il sistema di raccordatura può essere personalizzato o standard con lavorazione di rastrematura, bordatura, premontaggio o
con saldobrasatura, a TIG o a MIG. Il tubo può essere sottoposto a protezione superficiale con verniciatura, trattamento di cataforesi o zincatura. I materiali più comunemente utilizzati possono essere: acciaio st 37.4, aisi 316,
e rame. La Rudiflex può inoltre offrire la realizzazione dei tubi composti

hydraulics division focusing particularly on the manufacture of rigid,
shaped hoses (on drawings or samples).
Due to investments in the rigid, shaped hose division, the company is now
able to supply the OEM market with rigid, shaped and integrated hoses,
to drawings or samples, or with prototypes made on site.
The system for integrating the hoses may be customized or standard and
includes tapering, flanging, pre-assembly or hard-soldering by TIG or MIG.
The hose may be surface treated with paint, for anti-corrosion or
galvanized.
The most commonly used materials are: steel st 37.4, aisi 316, and copper.

ggi è sufficiente girare la testa e il nostro sguardo incontrerà inevitabilmente
una pila: orologi, telefoni, computer, telecomandi. L'energia che
alimenta tutti questi oggetti ha la sua origine, almeno in parte, dalle reazioni chimiche ottenute più di duecento anni fa da Alessandro Volta (inventore
della batteria).
In una recente conferenza, il premio Nobel per la Fisica Carlo Rubbia ha
detto che oggi per procurarci energia bruciamo petrolio e che ogni anno
consumiamo una quantità di combustibile fossile pari a quello accumulato
da madre natura in oltre un milione di anni. Il genere umano basa la propria
sopravvivenza su questa sproporzionata ed assurda attività. Le alternative?
Le fonti di energia rinnovabile.
L'innovazione, secondo Rubbia, sta nella capacità di investire nella ricerca,
unica via per arrivare a concepire nuove soluzioni; una di queste vie ha
le radici proprio nel lavoro di Alessandro Volta.
Nel 1799 i fenomeni elettrici erano infatti noti, ma solo sotto forma di scintille o scariche. Fu proprio l'invenzione di Volta, consentendo la produzione
di corrente continua, a determinare la straordinaria affermazione della corrente elettrica come mezzo di trasporto dell'energia, e a far diventare l'elettricità la "regina" delle forme di energia.
Da Alessandro Volta alla storia moderna, passando dalla prima cella fotovoltaica degli anni '50, la ricerca ha compiuto notevoli passi in avanti.
Purtroppo, le attuali ed esistenti esigue fonti energetiche alternative, eolica
e fotovoltaica in primis, hanno ora rendimenti troppo bassi ed alti costi di
gestione per dichiararsi vera alternativa al petrolio. Ma la strada intrapresa
sembra quella giusta. Negli ultimi mesi stiamo vivendo un'euforia globale
nell'istallazione di impianti eolici e pannelli fotovoltaici; entrambi i sistemi
sono utilizzati per la produzione dell'energia elettrica.
Un fattore determinante per la ricerca della massima efficienza è l'ottimizzazione
della posizione rispetto alla forza motrice: per eolico la direzione del vento
e per il fotovoltaico la direzione del sole e le condizioni variabili del tempo.
Nasce quindi l'esigenza di movimentare questi sistemi sia su asse orizzontale che su asse verticale; nascono quindi gli inseguitori solari.
Con riferimento al grafico riportato, l'inseguimento solare è una tecnologia
in grado di migliorare notevolmente la produzione di energia elettrica dei
pannelli fotovoltaici. Da recenti studi, si riporta che gli inseguitori solari a un
asse di rotazione consentono, rispetto agli impianti fissi di pari potenza, un
rendimento superiore fino al 30% e con gli inseguitori solari a due assi tale
valore può raggiungere il 45%.
Attualmente, il massimo della tecnologia fotovoltaica è inglobata in un
nuovo sistema dal nome concentratore parabolico. Esso è costituito da 82
specchi concavi che dirigono i raggi solari verso un punto centrale che svolge
la funzione di collettore dell'energia solare.
L'energia, sottoforma di calore, viene quindi trasmessa a un motore, che produce energia meccanica e infine elettricità, analogamente alla funzione svolta da una turbina. Il sistema funziona secondo il concetto del girasole, e cioè
si orienta costantemente in direzione del Sole, spegnendosi automaticamente al tramonto. Il controllo può essere effettuato telematicamente e anche
via internet.
La Leonessa è presente in tutte queste applicazioni fornendo il sistema
fondamentale di rotazione.
Studi specifici di accuratezza, affidabilità e durata hanno consentito di sviluppare
un prodotto compatto dalle elevate caratteristiche tecnologiche.
Prima dell'approvazione, il prototipo è stato sottoposto a specifiche procedure
di omologazione sia da enti governativi che assicurativi.
Le verifiche tecniche statiche, dinamiche e a fatica, le prove sperimentali di
collaudo, i materiali di acquisto assemblati e il processo produttivo sono stati
analizzati e verificati dai componenti di esperte e specifiche commissioni di analisi.
In tutti i settori il prodotto La Leonessa ha soddisfatto gli standard imposti,
ottenendo in poco tempo l'omologazione di prodotto all'applicazione.

oday, we only have to turn our heads and we inevitably see a battery;
clocks, telephones, computers, remote controls. The energy driving all these
devices originates, at least in part, from the chemical reactions obtained
more than two hundred years ago by Alessandro Volta (the inventor of the
battery).
At a recent conference, Nobel prize winner for Physics, Carlo Rubbia, said
that today we burn petroleum to obtain energy and that every year we
consume an amount of fossil fuel equal to that accumulated by mother
nature in more than one million years. The human race bases its survival
on this disproportionate and absurd activity.
What are the alternatives? Renewable energy sources.
According to Rubbia, innovation lies in the ability to invest in research, the
only way to arrive at conceiving new solutions; one of these ways has its
roots directly in the work of Alessandro Volta.
Recent studies have shown that sun trackers with one rotation axis permit
a 30% higher yield compared to fixed systems of equal power, a figure
which rises to 45% with solar trackers with two axes.
Currently, the maximum expression of photovoltaic technology is encompassed in a system called a parabolic concentrator. This is comprised of 82
concave mirrors which direct the sun rays towards a central point which
acts as a collector of solar energy.
The energy, in the form of heat is then transmitted to a motor which produces mechanical energy and finally electricity, analogously to the function performed by a turbine. The system functions according to the sunflower concept; in other words, it constantly directs itself towards the sun,
switching off automatically at sunset. Control may be effected either by
data communication systems or via Internet. La Leonessa is present in all
these applications by supplying the fundamental rotation system.
In 1799 electrical phenomena were in fact known of, but only in the form
of sparks or lightning. It was precisely Volta's invention which by the production of continuous current, determined the extraordinary affirmation
of the electric current as a means of transporting energy and of making
electricity become the "queen" of energy forms.
From Alessandro Volta to modern history, passing from the first photovoltaic cell in the '50s, research has made considerable strides forward.
Unfortunately, the current and meagre existing sources of alternative
energy sources, wind and photovoltaic in primis, still have too low yields
and high management costs in order to be declared an authentic alternative to petroleum. Nevertheless the road taken seems to be the right one.
During recent months we have experienced global euphoria about the
installation of wind farms and photovoltaic panels, both systems used for
the production of electricity.
Specific studies concerning accuracy, reliability and duration, have permitted the development of a compact product with high technological characteristics. Before approval, the prototype was subjected to specific type-approval
procedures both by government and insurance organisations.
The static, dynamic and fatigue technical trials, the experimental inspection
tests, the assembled purchased materials and the production process were
analysed and checked by experts and by specific analysis commissions.
In all sectors, the La Leonessa product satisfied the standards set, thus obtaining type-approval of the application product in a short period of time.
One crucial factor searching for maximum efficiency is optimisation of the
position with respect to the drive force: for wind, the direction of the wind,
for photovoltaic cells, the direction of the sun and weather changes.
A need is therefore born to move these systems on both the horizontal and
vertical axes; the solar trackers are therefore born.
With reference to the graph shown, solar tracking is a technology capable
of considerably improving the electrical energy production of photovoltaic
panels.

Cosa Vi aspettate nel prossimo futuro?
Credo che dovremo continuare a investire in
due direzioni: ricerca e sviluppo. Ricerca per
migliorare la qualità del prodotto e la sicurezza
degli operatori che lo usano; sviluppo di nuovi
modelli che consentano rendimenti più alti e
quindi risparmio di energia e maggior rispetto
dell'ambiente. Stiamo conducendo un programma di ricerca e sviluppo col supporto di centri
universitari e il coinvolgimento dei fornitori più
qualificati. Anche Rudiflex, che negli ultimi anni
ha fatto notevoli investimenti in tal senso, fa
parte di questo circuito. Con l'impegno serio ed
entusiasta di tutti possiamo vincere le sfide del
mercato e guardare al futuro con ottimismo.

As manufacturer of complex machines as aerial work platforms, Airo requires to cooperate with several external suppliers providing services and components. The partnership
with Rudiflex started several years ago and it is constantly growing, thanks to the quality of the service, the planning flexibility and the punctuality of the deliveries.
How do you rate the quality of Rudiflex products and services?
The aim of satisfying the market needs, especially for a fast
and inconstantly growing market as ours, requires a continuous development of new machines and new models.
Nowadays we produce over 40 different models. Rudiflex is
constantly helping and supporting us in every challenge.
Counting on its experience, Rudiflex always assists us in the
choice of the best hoses and fittings in order to combine quality, efficiency, ease of installation and maintenance. Hoses are
provided blow-cleaned, with plugs and organized in custom
kits: this is a great advantage from the logistic and assembling
point of view.
Which are your future expectations?
I think we have to invest in two directions: research and development. Research must lead to quality and safety improvements to our products; development implies the design of new
machines targeting higher efficiencies, energy saving for a
new generation of environmentally-friendly products. We are
carrying out several R&D projects together with Univeristies
and with our most expert and qualified suppliers. Rudiflex,
which is also developing in this direction, belongs to this
network of excellence. Counting on the serious and enthusiastic dedication of all of us and our partners I am sure
we can win all the challenges and look at the future with
optimism.

Macchine Edili Riunite was officially founded in 1973 with the merger of
some local businesses, that had begun operating in 1962 producing construction machinery and equipment.
Later, the company grew through important agreements with international
partners until it became established as an important worldwide player
under the name of IMER Group.
Today, IMER Group is a single brand that represents three production companies operating in Italy and ten commercial subsidiaries that distribute
its products in the most important international markets (France, Spain,
the United Kingdom, Russia, the United States, Central and South America,
Middle East, Asia, Turkey and Morocco), in addition to its many resellers
and distributors in the remaining countries. Its Turkish subsidiary, IMERL&T, which began operations last September, is involved in both production

dall'Ensemble musicale Parmense diretti da Mario Tononi
e scroscianti applausi anche per le due voci soliste Nadia
Engheben e Lucia Bini. Un vasto programma di musiche
del '700 italiano e tedesco, soprattutto sacre, ha caratterizzato lo splendido concerto che si è tenuto nella serata di
sabato 27 gennaio al Teatro Grande di Brescia, gremito da
un folto pubblico richiamato per iniziativa dei vari Rotary
club di città e provincia coordinati dall'ingegner
Ferdinando Lazzari. Il concerto a scopo benefico è stato
organizzato per raccogliere fondi a favore della ricerca e lo
screenig per i tumori. La serata è iniziata con l'esecuzione
del famoso Canone in Re maggiore di Pachelbel per solo
orchestra, ottimamente eseguito dai soli archi. In seguito la
corale ha cantato il Corale "Jesus bleibet meine Freude"
tratto dalla Cantata n° 147 di J.S.Bach, nel quale la parte
strumentale gareggia con la solennità della parte corale.
Sucessivamente è stato eseguito il grande pezzo vivaldiano
della serata musicale, il "Magnificat" rv 610 , nel quale assieme al coro e al gruppo strumentale si sono unite le splendide voci soliste di Nadia Engheben e di Lucia
Bini. Molto apprezzata è stata l'esecuzione del
brano "Laudate Dominum" di Mozart per soprano, coro e orchestra, una delle pagine più belle
della serata. Sempre di Mozart è stato eseguito
l'"Andante" in do maggiore kv 315 per flauto e
orchestra ottimamente interpretato da Giovanni
Mareggini che ha saputo mettere in risalto i caratteristici elementi stilistici Mozartiani. Molto suggestiva è
stata l'esecuzione del duetto per soprano e contralto
"He shall feed his flok like a shepherd", tratto dal
Messiah di Haendel. Il vero pezzo centrale del concerto
è stato il grandioso "Gloria" in re maggiore rv 589 di
Vivaldi, ampia pagina nella quale sono state apprezzate le
due soliste e il coro ottimamente diretto da Mario Tononi,
che ha evidenziato il dovuto carattere espressivo con la
costante tenuta di suono e intonazione in tutte le sue
parti. Molto gradita è stata anche l'orchestra "Ensemble
Parmense", che vede nel suo ideatore e concertatore il
maestro Giacomo Monica, insegnante della classe di violino presso il Conservatorio di Parma. A conclusione del
concerto, numerosi sono stati gli applausi al direttore
maestro Mario Tononi e a tutti i musicisti a cui è stato d'obbligo concedere due graditissimi bis: per primo il suggestivo "Ave verum" di Mozart e in seguito, riproposto il "Cum
Sancto Spiritu" finale del "Gloria" di Vivaldi a coronare
l'apprezzata serata musicale al Teatro Grande di Brescia. La
corale Ars Nova in questa importante circostanza è stata
orgogliosamente soddisfatta non solo per il successo ottenuto di critica e pubblico, ma per l'applauso speciale ricevuto dalla signora Gabriella Pasotti, presidente della "La
Leonessa", che verso l'Ars Nova ha sempre manifestato
grande affetto e sostegno, significativo stimolo per i coristi
e il direttore a proseguire nelle proprie attività..

t was a great success for the Ars Nova Chorus of
Carpendolo, accompanied by the Ensemble Musicale
Parmense directed by Mario Tononi and there was thunderous applause for the two solo voices Nadia Engheben and
Lucia Bini.
The splendid concert on Saturday, 27 January in Brescia's
Teatro Grande, coordinated by Ferdinando Lazzari, offered
a broad program of 18th-century Italian and German
music, especially sacred, to a large audience invited by the
various Rotary Clubs of the city and province. The benefit
concert was organized to raise funds for tumor screening
and research.
The evening began with Pachelbel's famous Canon in DMajor for orchestra only, excellently performed by just the
strings. Then, the chorus sang "Jesus bleibet meine
Freude" from Cantata 147 by J.S. Bach, in which the instrumental part complements the solemnity of the choral part.
Then, the great Vivaldi piece of the evening, the
Magnificat, RV 610, in which the chorus and instruments
were joined by the splendid solo voices of Nadia Engheben
and Lucia Bini. The performance of Mozart's piece for
soprano, chorus and orchestra, one of the loveliest parts of
the evening, was also much appreciated. Also by Mozart,
the Andante in C-Major, KV 315 for flute and orchestra was
excellently performed by Giovanni Mareggini, who skillfully highlighted Mozart's characteristic style. There was also
a beautiful duet for soprano and contralto, "He shall feed
his flock like a shepherd," from Handel's Messiah. There
was also great appreciation for the concert's central piece,
the magnificent Gloria in D-Major, RV 589, by Vivaldi, featuring the two soloists and chorus excellently directed by
Mario Tononi, who maintained the expressive character of
sound and intonation constant throughout the piece. The
audience also enjoyed the performances by the Ensemble
Parmense orchestra, formed and conducted by Giacomo
Monica, who teaches violin at the Parma Conservatory. At
the end of the concert the applause didn't end until maestro Mario Tononi and all the musicians granted two highlyappreciated encores: the first, the beautiful "Ave Verum"
by Mozart followed by the "Cum Sancto Spiritu" finale
from Vivaldi's Gloria, to cap a fine evening of music at the
Teatro Grande of Brescia.
The Ars Nova Chorus was proud of its performance not
only for the public and critical praise but also for the special applause from Gabriella Pasotti, President of La
Leonessa, who has always demonstrated great affection
and support for Ars Nova, providing a significant stimulus
for the choir members and director to continue their work.
