Jazz Oddity is a reworking project of some pieces of David Robert Jones, best known as
David Bowie, in a jazz/rock key, released in March 2011 for the label “La Frontiera” (CNI)
- David Bowie’s Music holds a very special place in my heart since I was very young, and this
old love brought me to conceive a radical contamination between Rock and Jazz, a
borderland upon which all my souls join together. A real “Jazz Oddity” Federica Zammarchi
“Jazz Oddity”, consists in eleven re-arrangements of songs of David Bowie. Its concept came
up a few years ago, when she needed to mix together her two main musical loves, namely jazz
and 70’s rock, both so important during her forming years. It was recorded with an Italian allstar band and it showcases a uniquely innovative sound, slightly influenced by european
bands like the Esbjörn Svensson Trio, coining a new genre definition called "PowerJazz".
Federica Zammarchi is a musician with an eclectic background. Singer, composer and
arranger, she is known in the jazz scene from years. Music theory, arranging and composing
professor. she teaches jazz singing and choir at the Saint Louis College of Music of Rome.
Her debut album “Fires ‘n Pyres” was realeased in 2009 by the Italian label Dodicilune
(KNE002) obtaining good reviews by Italian specialized press. She recorded it with Marco
Bonini (Guitar), Gianluca Renzi (D.Bass), Ettore Fioravanti (Drums), Paolo Recchia (Alto &
Soprano sax), Aldo Bassi (Trumpet & F.Horn). A modern jazz work, centred on original
compositions, in the wake of the contemporary european scene (Kenny Wheeler, Norma
Winstone) and the sixties’ blue note albums of artists like Wayne Shorter, Freddy Hubbard
and more.
