Premio COMEL Arte Contemporanea 2016, per artisti dell’Unione Europea
Pubblicato il bando della V edizione. Fino al 30 giugno le iscrizioni.
Sono aperte le iscrizioni per il “Premio COMEL Vanna Migliorin Arte Contemporanea”, unico
nel suo genere in Europa, destinato agli artisti maggiorenni che operano all’interno
dell’Unione Europea. L’iscrizione è gratuita.
Nato a Latina quattro anni fa in memoria dell’imprenditrice pontina Vanna, che ha avuto tra
gli obiettivi personali più cari il sostegno degli artisti e la promozione dell’arte, è giunto alla V
edizione ed è entrato a far parte del circuito dei premi internazionali più importanti di Arte
Contemporanea.
La particolarità del Premio è la partecipazione con opere in alluminio (o in cui l’alluminio
sia prevalente) di formato non industriale (max cm 150x150x150).
Tema di questa edizione è la luce, da declinare liberamente secondo il proprio estro. Si legge
nel bando: “La nuova edizione del Premio COMEL 2016 vuole consentire agli artisti di mettere
in evidenza la luce dell’alluminio, la sua capacità di riverberare in superficie, riflettere,
specchiare, illuminare, invocare chiarità, emanare e infine unire spazi e dimensioni; senza
considerare il suo opposto (il buio) come caratteristica negativa, e anzi facendone un
momento essenziale della sua forza espressiva.”. Una dichiarazione che è anche un invito, in
questo delicato periodo storico, a unire gli opposti senza scontri, in una trasformazione
reciproca che efficacemente si risolva verso una ‘luminosa’ pacificazione artistica, e speriamo
non solo artistica.
Il titolo della mostra collegata al Premio è “Lucente alluminio”. L’allestimento, dall’8 al 29
ottobre 2016, sarà dedicato alle tredici opere (tredici come il numero atomico dell’alluminio)
che verranno selezionate e tra le quali sarà infine scelto il vincitore unico della giuria e del
pubblico. In premio 3500 euro e una mostra personale presso Spazio COMEL Arte
Contemporanea, galleria al centro di Latina (via Neghelli, 68) in cui durante tutto l’anno si
svolgono esposizioni ed eventi gratuiti per artisti e pubblico. Tra l’altro Spazio COMEL ha
iniziato ad ospitare importanti retrospettive d’artista: pochi mesi fa l’ospite di riguardo è
stato Alberto Burri, con numerosi inediti, grazie alla collaborazione della storica stamperia
romana 2RC e la Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini Collezione Burri. Un evento che rappresenta un
ulteriore impegno di pregio da parte dei titolari della galleria, Adriano e Maria Gabriella
Mazzola, che continuano il progetto ideale di Vanna Migliorin.
Il Premio COMEL ha come scopo la promozione dell’Arte Contemporanea, lo scambio
multiculturale tra i Paesi dell'Unione Europea; il consolidamento del legame tra arte ed
impresa; la valorizzazione dell’alluminio, materiale che, oltre ad avere una valenza estetica
rilevante, è estremamente versatile.
La giuria, guidata dal critico d’arte Giorgio Agnisola, comprende i giurati Anna Amendolagine
(critico d’arte e saggista), Fabio Barisani (designer e fotografo), Dario Giugliano (docente di
Estetica e filosofo), Maria Gabriella Mazzola (manager CO.ME.L. S.a.s. – Comitato tecnico).
Le iscrizioni sono aperte fino al 30 giugno.

Contemporary Art COMEL Award 2016, for artists of the European Union
The announcement of the fifth edition is on line.
Submissions are free and open until 30th June.
Submissions are open for the “COMEL Award Vanna Migliorin – Contemporary Art”, a
unique prize in Europe, dedicated to adult artists who work in the European Union’s
countries. Registration is free.
The competition originated in Latina (70 km from Rome), in memory of the local
entrepreneur Vanna, whose most heartfelt goals were to support artists and to promote Art.
It is now at its fifth edition and has become one of the most important international awards
of Contemporary Art.
The peculiarity of the prize is that participants have to submit works in aluminum (or where
this metal is prevalent) of a non-industrial format (they should be max 150x150x150 cm).
The theme of this edition is the Light, to be declined freely according to the artist’s
inspiration.
‘The new edition of COMEL Prize 2016 wants to allow artists to bring out the aluminum light,
its ability to reverberate on the surface, reflect, mirror, illuminate, invoke clarity, emanate
and then link spaces and dimensions; without considering its opposite (darkness) as a
negative characteristic, and indeed making it an essential component of its expressive
power.’
A statement that it is also an invitation, during this delicate period, to unite opposites
without clashes, in a mutual transformation that could resolve into a 'bright' artistic peace,
and we hope it is going to be not only an artistic peace in the end.
‘ Lucent Aluminum’ is the title of the exhibition connected to the Prize, which will be held
from 8 to 29 October 2016. It will show the works of thirteen artists - thirteen as the atomic
number of aluminum - selected by the Jury. Among them the winner will be finally chosen
and will be given 3500 euro and a chance to organize a solo exhibition at Spazio COMEL
Contemporary Art gallery in the center of Latina (via Neghelli, 68, Latina, Italy). This is a
well-known Art gallery where several free exhibitions and events are held throughout the
year. Among others, Spazio COMEL began to host major artists’ retrospectives: a few months
ago Alberto Burri was the special guest, with many inedited works, thanks to the
collaboration of the historic Roman printing house 2RC and Fondazione Palazzo Albizzini
Burri Collection. An event that has represented an additional valuable commitment by the
gallery owners, Adriano and Maria Gabriella Mazzola, who continue their mother’s ideal
project.
The Award aims at promoting Contemporary Art and multiculturalism among the countries
of the European Union, strengthening the link between Contemporary Art and business,
enhancing the value of aluminum, a material that, besides its relevant aesthetic value, is also
easily workable, extremely versatile, flexible and recyclable, establishing a vital and
significant relationship between the public and the artists.
The jury, led by the Art critic Giorgio Agnisola, includes Anna Amendolagine (Art critic and
essayist), Fabio Barisani (designer and photographer), Dario Giugliano, (Professor of
Aesthetics and philosopher), Maria Gabriella Mazzola (CO.ME.L Sas manager - technical
Committee).
