Il Friuli Venezia Giulia Last Minute
Friuli Venezia Giulia is Last Minute From May 2007 to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia, all you need is a click. With Last Minute by Turismo FVG, the hotel booking system ready to be launched on the official website of Agenzia del Turismo del Friuli Venezia Giulia (www.turismo.fvg.it), tourists can access in real time all the best offers of the accommodation facilities in the region. Hotel operators who join the system can enter online their offer of rooms – single, double or twin-bedded–, to propose at discounted prices, per person and including breakfast. On entering the site, visitors will have quick access to availability of rooms, with related prices, available from visualisation until 72 hours later. To guarantee the bookings, the system requires a credit card, even if this stage of the service does not require any advance payment or deposit to the tourist’s charge. With this tool Turismo FVG does not intend to provide any kind of tourist brokering tout court nor to act as tour operator, but wishes to rather guarantee a promotional and marketing support to the tourist product proposed by the territory, by making a platform of offers and demand available. The service, which already counts about thirty member facilities, is open to all the hotels in the region. This is the great offer in Friuli Venezia Giulia, where bike-tourists are at home. Almost 1700 kilometres of bike itineraries, starting from the majestic views of the Julian Alps and Dolomites, riding along soft hills, among pelting rivers and timeless castles, along the lagoon – a paradise for birdwatching – and skimming the gorges on the sea surrounding Trieste. 9 main itineraries that branch out on the regional territory– Alpe Adria, Adriatic Sea, Piedmont, Friulian plains, Isonzo, Tagliamento, Livenza, Carnia and Lower Pordedone –, together with 21 theme routes ranging from culture to nature, from literature to enogastronomy. For those who may wish to divide the Friuli Venezia Giulia region into two sections, starting from the border with Austria in Coccau and riding down to the sea in Grado, the ideal itinerary is Alpe Adria, 175 kilometres of bike routes alternated with secondary roads and gravelled stretches. The route, which links up to the Drava bike-track in Austria, is a real encyclopaedia of landscapes, from the balsamic air in Tarvisio, to the Medieval boroughs in Malborghetto, Colloredo di Monte Albano, Strassoldo, from locations that have marked fundamental historical passages, like Palmanova and Aquileia, to the uncontaminated nature in the lagoon and in the sandbanks in Grado. Among the areas that boast a consolidated biking tradition, the most important is Pordenone, where Ciclo Sapori Friuli – a network made up of 7 tourist facilities capable of offering specialised support to the lovers of the two-wheels – proposes different itineraries made unique by the intersecting of seven magnificent rivers (Tagliamento, Arzino, Cosa, Colvera, Medusa, Cellina and Livenza). The lovers of good dishes as they were in the past cannot miss a trip to the Land of polenta, or a ride along the route the alchemy of prosciutto. The wine routes, then, are easily ridden along the itineraries Tour of the Collio and Colli Orientali. Those who wish to combine sport and culture may choose between The Karst of the Great War, the literary route From Nievo to Pasolini, or the landscapes of Invincible Fortresses. For details on the specific characteristics of each single itinerary it is possible to consult the new publication by Turismo FVG “By bike – Itineraries to discover a unique land”. On 26 and 27 May the event Cantine Aperte or Open Wineries will be back, the most awaited appointment by the wine lovers of half of Europe, organised by Movimento Turismo del Vino Friuli Venezia Giulia. The password of the 15th edition of this event, which joyfully brings together vinedressers, experts and lovers, is quality in reception and tasting. This year, in fact, the regional Movimento has launched the Quality Certification project in reception at the wineries, an initiative that will lead to the official certification of quality standards in all the123 member wineries. The quality brand, released after an accurate evaluation by the Certifying board Csqa in Thiene, has already awarded 23 member wineries in Friuli Venezia Giulia, which will be allowed to exhibit the aspired vine leaves, symbol of the certification. The two-day enological event has a tight schedule and on Saturday 26 May there will be guided tastings upon booking, organised by the over 40 wineries spread on the whole regional territory. Among inedited sensorial routes and tastes of those precious jewels for meditation – Docg Picolit and Ramandolo above all – the proposals will leave ample room for the great autochthon wines, like Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Terrano, Pignolo. In the evening, all to Dinner with the Vine-dresser , to discover the thousands tasty specialties offered by the regional cuisine, together with the best wines from Friuli Venezia Giulia. The event, directly organised on the estates, in the holiday farms of the wineries and in the most characteristic restaurants in the region, allows for a close-up discovery of the world of wine and its secrets, by dining side by side the vinedresser and his family. The wine-tourists who wish to enjoy a weekend tasting wines in absolute freedom, may stay at the Cantine del Buon Dormire, welcoming holiday-farm accommodation next to the wineries and framed by uncontaminated nature. On Sunday 27 May from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., wine lovers will have the chance to draw up their own tasting itinerary around the 120 member wineries, spread over the 8 Doc areas in the region. At the adjacent facilities it will be possible to buy the Wine-glass of Cantine Aperte 2007, contributing to finance an important Unicef project. And this is the guide-theme of èStoria 2007, the International History Festival, scheduled in Gorizia from 18 to 20 May. A three day event dedicated to history experts and lovers, which will focus on the concept of revolution with many conferences, round tables, meetings and lessons with important authors, presentations, workshops and much more. Also this year the Libreria Editrice Goriziana, which organises the event, proposes a programme with important names – like the Chinese writer Jung Chang, author of one of the most authoritative biographies of Mao Tse-tung and the bestseller “Cigni selvatici” (Wild swans), the former ambassador and editorialist Sergio Romano, the political expert Ernesto Galli della Loggia, the journalist Federico Rampini, Mario Luzzatto Fegiz, Stefano Salis and many others – ready to thoroughly examine the concept of revolution in all its aspects. During the scheduling there will also be a few moments of in-depth musical studies dedicated to the songs of revolution, guided by the singer and song-writer Carlo Pestelli. Those who wish to see history with their own eyes, cannot miss a trip in time to Gorizia and surroundings by èStoriabus, a tour through the darkest pages of history, which in this town marked deep furrows of its passage, among epic battles and war secrets. We move from the fascination of the Imperial traces left by Rome and the Hapsburgs to more recent events, with the routes dedicated to the Great War and among the traces left by the cold war on one of the “hottest” borders in 20th century history. The èStoriabus programme proposes a Tour of the Isonzo Battles, a route to be covered in three days to discover the places of the twelve battles that took place along the Isonzo river. The itinerary also includes a visit to the ancient Castle in Gorizia and its provincial Museums, with special reference to the Museum of the Great War. To crown May as the month dedicated to history in Friuli Venezia Giulia also two other important commemorative events bring their contribution. Sentieri di pace, (Peace Paths) on 19 and 20 May, will allow visitors to re-live the most important events on the battlefields of Mount Sei Busi, in the area of the Sacrarium in Redipuglia (Go). Guided by the commentary of a speaker, visitors may also taste the “Soldier’s meal”, prepared similarly to those prepared during the First World War. On 27 May in Drenchia (Ud), there will be a historical commemoration, Sui passi di Rommel, (On Rommel’s footsteps), an exhibition set on mounts Kolovrat and Matajur, where in 1917 a young lieutenant Erwin Johannes Rommel – the future Desert Fox – managed to break through the Italian lines to the new front on the Piave river.
