o nly few shado ws o n the enviro nment. Atypical altho ugh perfectly integrating the rural landscape, the pro ject pro po ses to Villa
Hermitage a new thresho ld.
The pro ject, tho ught mo re like a big ho use than an apartment building, co nsists o f the fo llo wing: a vo lume dug no rth and so uth
and then fragmented in its center to o ffer co mmo n areas (co rrido rs and stair) a visual relatio nship with enviro nment.
Fo r mo st unique in their partitio ning, apartments o pen very differently to the o utside depending o n the situatio n. Thus, when
smaller ho mes have two o r three directio ns (except studio s), so me 4-ro o m apartments enjo y up to six different o rientatio ns.
In additio n, each unit has been designed so as to appear larger than it is in truth.
Based o n the reco mmendatio ns develo ped by the Effinergie, the SIEMP co nsidered an o peratio n o f 8 po sitive energy ho using
(pro ducing mo re energy than it co nsumes). 6 7m² o f pho to vo ltaic panels and 12m² o f so lar thermal co llecto rs were therefo re
carefully integrated to the terrace, so that technical so lutio ns do no t spo il the architectural harmo ny o f the building. Thermal
triple glazed lo w-emissivity jo inery, natural lighting o f co mmo n areas, co llective co ndensing gas bo iler, simple ventilatio n
hygro -adjustable flo w with air inlets planned in the maso nry and reinfo rced insulatio n are also invo lved in the thermal
perfo rmance o f the building.
The building co nstructed to day appears as a strange and familiar fo rm, bo rn o f matching sense o f place, urban rules, the
maximum light and energy capture, but abo ve all a desire to "Live Here" with o thers.

In additio n to an energy efficient building, the 38 pho to vo ltaic panels, installed in the upper part
o f the so uth facade, help o ffset the buildings energy co nsumptio n and achieve zero energy. The
system co nnected the 0 3/0 3/20 14 pro duced 1245kWh during the first mo nth.

The risk was to meet o bjectio ns o n landscape integratio n o f this "black"facade. The ambitio us o bjectives o f the City o f Paris in
terms o f renewable energy (Climate Plan 20 0 7) helped to suppo rt this pro po sal and no reservatio ns were made by lo cal
residents.

The establishment o f maso nry air inlets can handle residential ventilatio n witho ut weakening

Paris, o n the west o f Belleville Park. Hermitage Street co nnects Pyrenees Street to Ménilmo ntant Street. The clo sest metro
statio ns are Jo urdain, Pyrenees (line 11) and Ménilmo ntant (line 2).
Lo cated in the heart o f the charming Hermitage neighbo rho o d in the 20 th arro ndissement o f Paris, the plo t o nce o ccupied by
tall trees and an o ld theater in ruins, is surro unded by ro utes o n three sides: the Hermitage street to the West, The Villa o f the
Hermitage in the no rth and the impasse Lo uis Ro bert, a private street o n the so uth with no direct view allo wed. The ho using
pro ject balances the urban planning rules, the spirit o f Parisian villas and ambitio n o f a po sitive energy o peratio n who se
technical co mplexity kno ws ho w to be fo rgo tten.
