Short Description [maximum 200 words]
He is a recognized authority for the development and application of X-ray
Absorption Spectroscopy (XAS) using synchrotron radiation. His main research
activity regarded the development, execution and understanding of X-ray
absorption, scattering and photoemission experiments performed on different
substances and advanced materials at international synchrotron radiation facilities.
He leaded several original research projects in this field and he coordinates the
activity of the XAS group at Camerino. He is currently engaged in research about
matter under extreme conditions and on advanced materials for energy
applications. He is co-author of the advanced GnXAS multiple-scattering XAS
data-analysis method and extensions using MD, MC and RMC computer
simulations.
He published more than 170 papers on international journals and is presently
included in the "top italian scientist" list of the Virtual Italian Academy (current hindex=31). Invited speaker, referee and member of several international boards.
Chairman of the XAFS14 and LAM14 international conferences, he is co-editor of
2 books of proceedings, one EPJ Special Topic issue and 1 book. Some
publications have been highlighted in the literature (Focus of the American
Physical Society) and Italian newspapers and magazines. He is currently scientific
responsible of the TIMEX project for the exploitation of the free electron laser
Fermi@Elettra source.
