ideato L'Elefante rosa, un gioco a meta' tra Trivial Pursuit
e Uno, che affronta senza tabu' gli effetti che alcool, cannabis
ed ecstasy hanno su chi si mette al volante e, piu' in generale,
sull'organismo umano.
Il gioco, ideato per ragazzi dai 12 anni in su, contiene
oltre 200 carte con domande divise in quattro temi: droga e
sanita', droga e guida, leggi e sanzioni, codice della strada e
sicurezza. L'Elefante rosa, presentato all'ultimo salone del
giocattolo di Parigi, e' stato accolto molto bene anche dai
giovani e presto sara' disponibile anche una versione per il
Belgio e per la Svizzera.
''Ho voluto fare un gioco semplice - spiega Elie - facile da
usare che possa essere utilizzato con profitto nelle scuole e
nelle istituzioni, ma anche nelle famiglie''.
L'idea di Elie nasce anche dalla constatazione del crescente
numero di incidenti stradali che hanno visto per protagonisti
giovani fra i 14 e i 24 anni: secondo i dati del 2003 il 26% dei
feriti rientrano in questa categoria.
''Il pericolo piu' grande - sottolinea Eric Pasquet,
direttore dell'Anpaa (l'Associazione nazionale di prevenzione
all'alcool) - e' il consumo contemporaneo di droghe e alcool,
con il risultato di amplificare gli effetti dannosi''.

dell'assenzio in gran parte del Vecchio continente. Il principio
attivo incriminato è il tujone, un terpene (ossia un olio
idrocarburico profumato di origine vegetale) presente nell'olio
essenziale dell'artemisia absinthium, a sfavore del quale gioca
anche una relativa somiglianza con la molecola del
tetraidrocannabinolo, il principio attivo della cannabis. Sul
grado di pericolosità e di tossicità del tujone le opinioni
divergono, ma la produzione dell'infuso in Svizzera è
regolamentata dalla legge.

Rock star Doherty released from jail
LONDON, Feb 8 (Reuters) - British rock star Pete Doherty
ended a four-night stint in jail on Tuesday after his record
company produced the bail to set him free on charges of
robbery and blackmail.
While on bail, the 25-year-old former singer of the group the
Libertines will be allowed to attend a drug rehabilitation centre
but must observe a curfew and surrender his passport, a
record company spokesman said. "It was hell on earth,"
Doherty said of his time inside Pentonville prison in north
London.
"At night the noise was horrible and there is nothing more
terrifying than the sound of a prison waking up," he told the
Sun in an interview after his release. Doherty, openly addicted
to crack cocaine, was arrested and charged last week after
police were called to an incident at a London hotel.
After the fracas, a 30-year-old man was taken to hospital
with facial injuries, but his wounds were not serious.
Doherty told the Sun he intended to stay off drugs after his
prison experience. "I'm determined to stay clean. Six days
without heroin hasn't been as bad as I expected.
"I've been through the worst of the detox and I want to prove to
my mum above anybody else that I can do this," he said.
Doherty and fellow musician Alan Wass, also charged with
robbery and blackmail, are scheduled to appear in court on
February 21 to face the charges.
He would have been released last Friday on 150,000 pounds
($278,400) bail but failed to come up with the money. The
court ordered him to Pentonville.
Doherty, recently romantically linked with supermodel Kate
Moss, left the Libertines in June 2004 and now leads the band
Babyshambles, which received a Best Live Band nomination at
the New Musical Express (NME) Awards announced last week.
The NME nomination means he will go head-to-head with his
old band, which he quit after failing to tackle his drug problems
and falling out with band-mate Carl Barat.
Doherty, who topped the NME "cool list" in 2004 with Barat,
was jailed in 2003 for six months for burgling Barat's flat and
was last year given a four-month suspended sentence for
possessing an illegal knife.

Eminem. Nel video di «Like Toy Soldiers» il rapper bianco
ritrae una guerra fra gang musicali. Dagli insulti nelle
interviste e nei testi delle canzoni si passa alle vie di fatto. C è
una sparatoria. Un amico gli muore sotto gli occhi: Eminem
decide che è il momento di cambiare. «Quando è troppo è
troppo», «Combattere per ottenere la pace»: così i giornali
titolano la sua conversione. E nel finale della clip Eminem
rende omaggio ai caduti sul campo rappando davanti a un
murales con i ritratti, tra gli altri, di Tupac e Notorius B.I.G.,
vittime in passato di feroci di regolamenti di conti. «E l ultima
cosa che

rapper nemico storico di Eminem e proprietario di The Source
(importante rivista hip hop) accusa: «Non gli interessa fare
pace con me. Non è mai passato attraverso quello cui sono
passato io». E andate a spiegare che bisogna cambiare linea
a Irv e Christopher Lorenzo. L etichetta discografica dei due
fratelli si chiamava Murder Inc, ovvero Omicidi spa (oggi
ripulito in Inc); hanno venduto 20 milioni di dischi; Irv ha preso
come nome d arte quello del boss mafioso Gotti. Nei giorni

Seattle struggles over how to remember Jimi Hendrix
SEATTLE, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Family and friends of Jimi
Hendrix are struggling with Seattle's government over the fate
of a moldy, run-down house they see as a future museum and
the city sees as an unsightly obstacle to development.
At stake is the fate of a modest home owned by Al Hendrix,
the legendary rock guitarist's father, from 1953 to 1956 in
Seattle's historically black Central District.
The James Marshall Hendrix Foundation moved the building a
couple of blocks from its original location to a city-owned lot
in 2001, after the land it had sat on was slated to be
developed for housing.
But now the city says it is planning a new development and
that the house must be moved again, by Feb. 22.
Ray Rae Goldman, who heads historical research and
archives for the foundation, says Seattle had all but promised
the house could remain on its current site so that it could be
turned into a memorial and a community center.
"They've basically changed their mind," Goldman said. "The
mayor (Greg Nickels) is going to go down as the mayor who
destroyed Jimi Hendrix's house."
Hendrix became an international rock and roll star in 1967,
when his "Jimi Hendrix Experience" had three hits "Hey
Joe,""Purple Haze" and "The Wind Cries Mary" in Britain's Top
10 and made a huge splash at the U.S. Monterey Pop Festival.
Widely considered the most important electric guitarist in
popular music, Hendrix spent just four years at the top before
dying in 1970, at 27, after a drug overdose.
NO PROMISES
Seattle officials said no promises were made to the
foundation that the house could stay on its current site.
"We never said, 'You can own this property,'" said John
Franklin, chief of the operations department for the city of
Seattle, "From our perspective, it was a temporary situationWe
have not threatened to demolish the house... We've simply
asked that they have to move it." Goldman says Seattle should
at least pay to have the house moved, so Hendrix's former
home can stay in the Central District, where he grew up.
One tribute to Hendrix in Seattle is the Experience Music
Project museum, created by billionaire Paul Allen, who has
amassed the world's largest collection of Hendrix memorabilia.
The Experience Music Project charges a $27 entry fee.
The only other Seattle memorials to Hendrix are a brown
rock next to an African savanna exhibit at the Woodland Park
Zoo and dedicated to the musician, and his grave site in
Renton, south of the city.
Janie Hendrix, the guitarist's stepsister, said she and other
family members would love to have a Seattle road bear the
musician's name. "That's something my father really wanted to
see," she said, "It would be nice if we didn't have to fight
for everything to get it."
Charles R. Cross, a Seattle music journalist whose Hendrix
biography, "Room Full of Mirrors," will be published in August,
said he's incredulous the city hasn't really honored one of its
most important sons.
"He's had an impact all over the world," Cross said. "This
is the place he grew up, and he is the single most important
artist to come out of this city."
Cross said the musician's drug use may be partly behind
Seattle's failure to wholeheartedly honor Hendrix.
"The issue is complicated by his lifestyle," Cross said.
"But if we begin to a look at a man's failures, we wouldn't be
honoring Bill Clinton with a national library. Jimi created
something with a lasting impact, and analyzing morals -- it's

Berlin cheers documentary on gay porn films
BERLIN, Feb 11 (Reuters) - A documentary about the lives of
aging porn actors that throws a harrowing spotlight on the gay
film industry in Los Angeles opened the Panorama section of
theBerlin Film Festival on Friday to an enthusiatic reception.
One of many films at this year's Berlinale examining sex and
pornography, "Cycles of Porn - Sex/Life in L.A. Part 2" by
German filmmaker Jochen Hick takes its audience on a
riveting journey into the world of low-budget sex films.
It tracks a group of young gay actors hoping for stardom in
their industry who live together in an apartment filled
withomniscient Internet web cameras and contrasts their wideeyed ambitions with three men now retired from making porn
films. A follow-up project to his heralded 1997 documentary
"Sex/Life in L.A." that had a 15-fold return on its $30,000
budget, Hick said he was hopeful "Cycles of Porn" would find
even more buyers, including television networks in Europe.
"We found that gay actors do it more for the adventure or to
do something really wild because it's ridiculous how little they
get paid," said Hick. "By contrast, I think there are very, very
few women doing porn films for fun."
The Berlinale, one of the world's leading film festivals
after Cannes and Venice, has made the vastly profitable
pornography industry one of the major themes this year.
A documentary "Inside Deep Throat" about the 1972 film
"Deep Throat" that shocked many and is estimated to have
grossed $600 million after costing $25,000 to make will be
screened in the Panorama section on Sunday.
Hick won the Berlinale's "Teddy" gay film award in 2003 for
his documentary "The World of Rural Queers" that portrayed
the isolated lives of four gay men in rural southwestern
Germany.
MOMENTS OF HUMOUR
Hick, who got half of his $80,000 budget for "Cycles of Porn"
from German state film board subsidies, said segments of
explicit gay sex scenes may shock some viewers but that
hardly anyone has walked out of screenings. Viewers cheered
on Friday.
Women and heterosexuals have especially praised it, he said.
He has a less explicit version for public television buyers.
"People say that once they're into the film they love it,"
Hick said. "Women have told me they love this film."
Not without its moments of humour, as when actors are
momentarily unable to perform as required, the film shows
actors collecting their modest $150 per film paychecks. It
illuminates a world where drug abuse is prevalent and men die
young. "The percentage of those doing drugs is huge," Hick
said."You feel sorry for the poor film actors, but then you think
'My god, you are old enough to decide what you're doing'."
While Cole Tucker, a hard-bodied former porn star in his
mid-40s, has found a new career in real estate, Kevin Kramer
toils as a clerk renting videos rather than starring in them.
Actor Tom Sizemore fails drug test with fake penis
LOS ANGELES, Feb 11 (Reuters) - Actor Tom Sizemore has
been jailed for violating his probation by failing a drug test after
he was caught trying to use a prosthetic penis to fake the
results, a Los Angeles County prosecutor said on Friday.
Sizemore, 43, who played a battle-hardened sergeant in the
war movie "Saving Private Ryan," was placed in custody on
Thursday. He was ordered to remain behind bars until a
hearing on Feb. 24, unless he posts $25,000 bond, Deputy
District Attorney Sean Carney said. Last month, Judge Antonio
Baretto had agreed to allow Sizemore to travel to Cambodia to
shoot a new film on condition that he pass a drug test every
day prior to his departure.
Carney said the actor's failed attempt to fake his drugtest
results came on the first day of the new requirement.
The actor is required to undergo random drug tests as a
condition of probation for his convictions on separate charges
of methamphetamine possession and beating his ex-girlfriend,
former Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss.
During Thursday's proceedings, prosecutors told Judge
Baretto that Sizemore failed three drug tests in three days,
the first after he was caught using a fake penis sewn into his
boxer shorts and filled with a clean urine sample kept warm by
a heating pack.
Carney said the ruse was revealed when the temperature of
the sample proved too cool to have come from Sizemore's
body,and he was asked to remove his pants.
According to prosecutors, Sizemore had been caught once
before trying to use a similar device, sold over the Internet
under the brand name the Whizzinator, and had failed drug
tests on at least five occasions.
Carney said two drug tests on the days following the fake
penis incident showed Sizemore had methamphetamine in his
system.
During the hearing, Sizemore's lawyer told the court that
his client was destitute, living in a garage in Whittier,
California, and that he was an expectant father, Carney told
Reuters.
But Baretto told Sizemore that his drug use was
"out of control," adding, "I had hoped and wanted to see a

Lawyer attacks key witness in actor Blake's trial
VAN NUYS, Calif., Feb 15 (Reuters) - Actor Robert Blake's
lawyers on Tuesday opened his defense against charges that
he murdered his wife by trying to portray a chief witness
against him as a delusional drug addict.
The defense also asked the judge to dismiss one of two
charges that Blake tried to hire someone to kill Bonny Lee
Bakley, 44, his wife of six months and the mother of his infant
daughter.
In the first day of defense testimony in the 71-year-old actor's
murder trial, the wife and son of Gary McLarty, a stuntman
double on Blake's hit 1970s TV show "Baretta," said that years
of cocaine abuse left McLarty with delusions that people
watched him from a satellite, bugged his phone and put a
tracking device on his motorcycle.
Cole McLarty, 31, said he told a newspaper about the
delusions because "I just felt my father, with his drug problem,
could have said stuff that was inaccurate and unfair to Mr.
Blake."
McLarty's estranged wife, Karen McLarty, said her husband
used cocaine for most of their 33 years together, but he was
particularly distraught since he was contacted by Blake in
March 2001, two months before Bakley's murder.
McLarty testified last week that Blake offered him $10,000
to "pop" Bakley. Karen McLarty testified that "he said he might
lie" on the stand.
The mother and son both testified that Gary McLarty told
them Blake had offered $10,000 not to murder Bakley but to
have Cole McLarty follow a man stalking Bakley and assault
him. Under cross-examination by the prosecution, Karen
McLarty said her husband only discussed lying about his
cocaine abuse.
McLarty admitted on the stand last week that he lied when he
testified at Blake's preliminary hearing that he only
experimented with drugs.
But if the wife and son were so worried about the impact of
McLarty's cocaine habit on others, why, prosecutor Shellie
Samuels asked, didn't they ever contact anyone involved with
any of the 136 movies on which McLarty served as a stuntman
or stunt coordinator?
Several jurors seemed taken aback when Samuels revealed
that McLarty was the stunt coordinator during filming of "The
Twilight Zone Movie" in 1982, in which actor Vic Morrow and
two children died in a tragic accident.
Mrs. McLarty, a former stuntwoman, said, "There's a lot of
people who do cocaine in Hollywood and it's not looked upon
as (being) that horrible." Blake is charged with murder and two
counts of solicitation involving McLarty and another retired
stuntman, Ronald "Duffy" Hambleton.
The judge agreed on Tuesday to hold a hearing later this
week on the defense motion to dismiss the McLarty-related
solicitation charge.

la pratica di riti satanici si sta spostando in luoghi chiusi,

Polizia di stato, intervenuto stamani alla presentazione del
corso ''Esorcismo e preghiera di liberazione'' attivato dal
Pontificio Ateneo Regina Apostolorum e dal Gruppo di ricerca
e informazione socio-religiosa.
''Dall'analisi del mercato, cioe' dall'enorme incremento
nella vendita di libri e abbigliamento satanici, possiamo dire
che il fenomeno e' in aumento. Molte famiglie sono allarmate
per l'abbigliamento dei figli'', aggiunge pur invitando alla
cautela. ''Nella maggioranza dei casi in Italia il satanismo
giovanile prevede una tipologia di reati abbastanza lievi come
detenzione di droga o scorribande nei luoghi sacri. Solo
quando si sommano variabili ad alto rischio, come droghe
sintetiche, a profili di personalita' a rischio come le Bestie di
Satana si arriva a situazioni estreme''.
Eppure, proprio il ripiegamento tra le pareti domestiche
desta allarme tra gli studiosi. ''Esiste un tipo di giovane che
non va piu' nei boschi a fare riti ma si isola convinto che il
mondo sia una giungla in cui sopravvivono solo i piu' forti. Si
insinua una sorta di filosofia che si presta poi a trovare un
aggancio con il satanismo. E' un pessimismo latente che
ribalta i valori tradizionali e li rifiuta'', commenta Carlo Climati,
giornalista e scrittore esperto di satanismo giovanile.
Il satanismo dunque come ultimo stadio, consumato in
silenzio, da soli, come appiglio finale a situazioni gia'
compromesse di depressione o emarginazione sociale.
Familiari ed educatori sono sollecitati a tenere sott'occhio
qualsiasi segnale utile: ''L'abbigliamento e' rivelatore come
anche piccole ferite sulle braccia con spille e lamette'',
spiega Climati. E da ora a tenersi aggiornati sul fenomeno
saranno anche i sacerdoti. Il corso ''Esorcismo e preghiera di
libreazione'' prevede infatti anche una sezione incentrata su

Expert tells Blake jury about hallucinations caused by
drugs that witnesses used
LOS ANGELES (AP) Robert Blake's lawyers tried to
undermine the testimony of two drug-using prosecution
witnesses at his murder trial Friday, calling on an expert
who said cocaine and methamphetamines can cause
hallucinations that persist for years.
The visions are so realistic that a drug user can remain
convinced they actually happened, said Ronald Keith Siegel,
a psychopharmacologist at the medical school of the
University of California at Los Angeles.
You can't win an argument with a paranoid,» he told the
jury. They are so convinced of the reality.» Blake 71, is on trial
in the slaying of his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, 44. She was shot
to death in 2001 as she sat in a car near a restaurant where
the couple had dined.
Retired stuntmen Ronald Duffy» Hambleton and Gary McLarty
acknowledged using the drugs after being called to the stand
by prosecutors. Hambleton testified that Blake repeatedly
solicited the murder of his wife. McLarty told jurors he believed
Blake tried to hire him to kill Bakley.
Siegel, who said he has studied hallucinatory drugs since
the 1960s, told of sampling the drugs himself and said he
once crawled into the cages of monkeys who were smoking
cocaine. He said he has not tried the drugs in more than 25
years.

compagnie aérienne Transavia, qui tente d'attirer des touristes
vers la capitale des Pays-Bas par de grands autocollants sur
les bus de Barcelone représentant un plant de cannabis.
"C'est particulièrement malheureux comme action publicitaire",
a déclaré Corine Lindhout, une porte-parole de l'adjoint au
maire responsable des Affaires économiques.

C'est dommage d'utiliser à nouveau cette image du cannabis",
a-t-elle poursuivi.
L'office du tourisme de la ville a déjà demandé à la compagnie

Transavia a de son côté affirmé que la campagne de pub est
"un clin d'oeil au débat sur le cannabis qui fait rage en
Espagne", indique l'ANP.
La compagnie souligne que la campagne utilise d'autres

Vincent van Gogh, les tulipes et les moulins pour inciter les

Author Hunter S. Thompson kills himself
DENVER, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Hunter S. Thompson, who
pioneered "gonzo" journalism and became a counterculture
celebrity with works such as "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,"
fatally shot himself at his Colorado home on Sunday night,
police said. He was 67.
Thompson was found dead at his home outside the ski resort
of Aspen, police said. "We do have confirmation that Hunter
Thompson was found dead this evening of an apparent selfinflicted wound," said Tricia Louthis, spokeswoman for the
Pitkin County Sheriff's Office.
Thompson's son, Juan, released a family statement to the
Aspen Daily News saying "Hunter prized his privacy and we
ask that his friends and admirers respect that privacy as well
as that of his family."
Thompson made his drug and alcohol-fueled antics and
clashes with authority the central theme of his work,
challenging the conventions of traditional journalism and
creating a larger-than-life outlaw persona for himself along
the way.
He dubbed his style of writing, which threw out any attempt
at objectivity, "gonzo" journalism.
His 1971 book "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," adapted
from an article written for Rolling Stone magazine, chronicled
Thompson's drug-hazed misadventures in Las Vegas while
covering a motorcycle race.
The book established Hunter as a cult celebrity and became
the basis for a 1998 Hollywood adaptation, starring Johnny
Depp as Thompson's alter-ego, Raoul Duke.

Roma, 21 feb - Il rock non e' tutto cattivo o pericoooso ma
spesso esso ha rappresentato e rappresenta un ponte di
raccordo per i giovani verso esperienze di satanismo.
Lo sostiene Carlo Climati, autore che a questi temi ha dedicato
alcune pubblicazioni e di cui ora esce un nuovo libro ''I giochi
estremi dei giovani'' dai tipi delle edizioni Paoline. ''Sempre piu'
giovani - rileva Climati – si dichiarano affascinati dal culto del
diavolo e da un mondo fatto di atmosfere lugubri e oscure. Per
molti di loro, le ombre sembrano essere piu' attraenti della
luce.
Ma come puo' un adolescente entrare in contatto con ambienti
cosi' squallidi? Io ho cercato di spiegarlo nel mio nuovo libro.
Il punto di partenza e' spesso rappresentato dal rock satanico,
genere musicale tetro e aggressivo che fa arricchire le case
discografiche. Si riconosce facilmente per i testi violenti e
anticristiani, ma soprattutto per le copertine dei compact disc,
che ospitano spesso immagini blasfeme.Naturalmente non
tutta la musica rock si puo' considerare diabolica. Ma e'
innegabile che la moda del satanismo sia diventata un ottimo
affare per far crescere i conti in banca di cantanti mediocri e
senza scrupoli.
Con la complicita' del disagio giovanile, un certo tipo di musica
finisce per trasformarsi in un efficacissimo ponte tra gli
adolescenti e il culto del demonio. Pur di fare soldi, i produttori
di dischi non esitano a lanciare messaggi devastanti e
diseducativi, che trovano terreno fertile nella solitudine di
ragazzi psicologicamente fragili, spesso alle prese con
problemi di incomunicabilita' e situazioni familiari difficili.
Fortunatamente - avverte pero' Climati - non tutti i giovani
rimangono catturati da certe atmosfere. Un segnale positivo e'
la sempre maggiore diffusione, tra i giovani, della ''Christian
Music'' (Musica Cristiana). Al contrario di quanto si potrebbe
pensare, non e' una musica ''da chiesa'', ma un genere per
tutti. E' l'espressione viva e pulsante di quegli artisti che
desiderano offrire un messaggio diverso, alternativo, ricco di
valori e di contenuti, utilizzando i linguaggi musicali
contemporanei: dal rock alla dance, dal soul al country, dalla
ballata melodica al rap.
Alcuni hanno radicalmente cambiato la loro vita, passando da
esperienze di trasgressione a una vera e propria
testimonianza di impegno cristiano. In vista delle prossime
Giornate Mondiali della Gioventu' di Colonia, vorrei
sottolineare l'impegno del cantautore italiano Roberto Bignoli,
portatore di handicap, che ha vissuto da bambino l'esperienza
della poverta' e della malattia, per passare successivamente a
quella della droga e del carcere.
Ma poi, la fede ha cambiato radicalmente la sua vita,
indicandogli una strada nuova. Nel dicembre 2001 ha ricevuto
a Washington il premio ''Unity Awards'' come migliore artista
cristiano internazionale.
Bignoli ha un bellissimo rapporto con i ragazzi ed e' stato tra i
protagonisti di alcune edizioni delle Giornate Mondiale della
Gioventu': nel 1997 a Parigi, con una serie di concerti in varie
piazze, fiere e stadi; nel 2000, a Roma, con un concerto a Tor
Vergata per i volontari; nel 2002, a Toronto, con una lunga
tournee' che si e' conclusa con una performance alla vigilia
con il Papa.
Iniziative come queste dimostrano che il cuore di tanti ragazzi
batte per quegli artisti che hanno scelto di utilizzare il
linguaggio universale della musica per proporre messaggi in
favore della vita e del Vangelo''.

Nei primi anni Settanta, in piena era di controcultura
americana, Thompson si rivelò uno scrittore dal talento e dal
sense of humor ''lisergici'' e fu l'inventore di uno stile
giornalistico surreale e allucinato che da lui prese il nome di
''gonzo journalism''. ''Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Paura e
disgusto a LasVegas, tradotto in italiano da Bompiani) è il titolo
del romanzo semi-autobiografico che Thompson scrisse nel
1971 e che racconta lo strampalato ''viaggio'' del reporter
Raoul Duke e del suo avvocato Dr.Gonzo in rotta verso Las
Vegas in compagnia di una scorta virtualmente inesauribile di

Mexican school libraries stock songbook glorifying drug
traffickers
MEXICO CITY (AP) Mexico's school libraries are stocking
a book that includes the lyrics of narcocorridos» folk songs
that glorify drug traffickers causing a storm of criticism in a
country where the drug market and its violence have become
part of life in thousands of communities.
Opposition activists are livid that the administration of
President Vicente Fox, which has declared a war on all
fronts» against drug gangs, allowed tens of thousands of
copies of the book ½100 Corridos: The Soul of Mexican
Song» to slip into grade-school libraries.
The book, printed by a private publishing company but
bought in bulk by the government, contains lyrics for songs
like The Red Car Gang,» which describes Mexican cocaine
smugglers shooting it out with Texas Rangers:
They say they came from the south/In a red car/Carrying
100 kilos of cocaine/bound for Chicago ...
Another song describes female drug traffickers who
poisoned police with opium to protect a drug shipment, then
praises ½The Lord of the Skies,» the nickname for the
deceased drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes:
They caught him alive/but they couldn't pin anything on
him/ now they can display him dead/on trumped-up charges
Experts say the corrido is Mexico's national song form.
Born along with the country's independence in the 1820s, it
reached its peak during the 1910-1917 Revolution.
Narcocorridos didn't start becoming popular until the 1970s
and 80s. Legislators say the books have no place in Mexican
schools and have scheduled hearings.
It's very bad to put books like this into the hands of children
because they portray drug lords as heroes,» said Salvador
Martinez, who heads the education committee of the lower
house of Congress.
That's bad, because we have a problem in this country where
drug traffickers sometimes pave a town's road, build its school
or hospital, and thus have a much better reputation among
some people than the police. We have to work against that.»
The U.S.-driven drug market has woven its way into the
life of thousands of Mexican communities, where narcotics
have been a source of otherwise scarce money and of power.
Ambitious and amoral young men are drawn by the vast
profits in shipping Colombian cocaine to the United States.
Poor farmers often see cultivation of marijuana or opium as
a step away from starvation.
In addition, Mexico has a growing domestic consumption
problem _ possibly aggravated by the increasing difficulty of
smuggling drugs over the U.S. border and concern about drug
sales have led officials to routinely search students at some
schools.
The sheer bulk of candidate books for libraries and the fact
that narcocorridos account for only a few of the corridos in the
book apparently allowed the narcotics issue to be overlooked.
Education Department officials say the volume is merely
secondary reading material, purchased as part of an effort
to put as many as 30 million books in school libraries
across the country, while supporting Mexican publishers.
More than 13,000 titles were submitted by local book
distributors as candidates for the plan. The books were vetted
by three non-governmental civic groups at the national level
and then were evaluated by committees of parents, teachers
and local officials in Mexico's 31 states and the capital.
All but one of those states whose committees had access to
the full text picked 100 Corridos» as a top choice for local
libraries. The other state listed it as a second choice. None
rejected it.
About 80,000 copies of the book were printed, though it is not
clear how many made it into schools. Officials say they have
no immediate plans to withdraw it.
Some education officials tried to depict the scandal as an
example of overly zealous censorship of a song genre that
for centuries has celebrated outlaws and the common man.
They noted one of the best-known and oldest corridos, La
Cucaracha,» also contains references to drugs.
One verse runs: ½La Cucaracha/ La Cucaracha/can no longer
walk/Because he hasn't got/because he ran out of/marijuana
to smoke.» Many other corridos, like the 1930s song The
Smuggler,» glorify thieves, rebels, or smugglers.
Border towns in northern Mexico where drug vendettas
have cost thousands of lives in recent years have tried
to ban local radio stations from playing narcocorridos, saying
too many lives have been lost to the drug culture. In 2002,
Baja California state radio stations agreed to ban
narcocorridos and decided to play only songs that promote
positive messages. I certainly recognize that corridos are part
of our cultural values,» said federal Sen. Jesus Ortega. But
they should be corridos, not these songs that glorify crime.»
U.S. parents attitudes toward drugs increasingly mellow
NEW YORK (AP) _ While today's parents in the United States
were more likely to have used drugs than in previous
generations, they see less risk in drug experimentation and
are less likely to speak with their children about it, according to
a survey released Tuesday.
The study of parental attitudes toward teen drug use,
conducted by The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, found
that barely half of the parents would be upset if their children
experimented with marijuana.
The number of parents who have never spoken with their
children about drugs was 12 percent, double what it was
just six years ago, the survey found.
While most parents no longer use drugs 11 percent reported
marijuana use in the last year they still carry attitudes fostered
during their teen years, researchers found. This is particularly
true about parents who were teenagers in the late '70s and
early '80s, when teen drug use was at a high point. While the
vast majority of parents have left old habits behind, they're
carrying old attitudes and beliefs forward,» said Steve Pasierb,
president and CEO of the Partnership. If old habits die hard,
the data suggests lax attitudes about drugs die even harder.»
Among other findings in the survey: While parents believe it's
important to discuss drugs with their children, only about three
in 10 children say they've learned a lot about drug risks at
home. Only 18 percent of parents believe their children have
smoked marijuana, but the number of teens experimenting
with it is 39 percent.
Just 21 percent of parents believe friends of their teen are
smoking marijuana, but 62 percent of teens report friends who
use the drug. The study was conducted among 1,205 parents
nationwide, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8
percentage points. The survey was conducted in households
with children under the age of 18.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America, launched in 1987,
is a coalition of communications professionals aimed at
reducing the demand for illegal drugs.

Members of Satanic cult who confessed to ritual slayings
sentenced to prison in Italy; one member acquitted
ROME (AP) _ Two members of a heavy metal group called the
Beasts of Satan» who confessed to taking part in three ritual
Satanic slayings were sentenced to prison Thursday, and a
third defendant was acquitted.
Andrea Volpe, Pietro Guerrieri and Mario Maccione had
confessed to roles in the grisly 1998 killings of Chiara Marino,
19, and Fabio Tollis, 16, in the woods outside of Milan. Five
other members of their suspected Satanic cult have been
ordered to stand trial in June.
Volpe, considered the mastermind of the ritual killings, was
sentenced to 30 years in prison 10 more thanprosecutors had
asked for. Guerrieri was given 16 years in
prison, and Maccione who authorities said played secondary
role in the murders was cleared.
Today justice rewarded me,» Michele Tollis, father of Fabio,
told Italian TV. Even if it leaves me quite bitter that ... our son
Fabio will not return.»
Prosecutors said the suspects belonged to an occult sect
that carried out the January 1998 killings in a drug-fueled
Satanic ritual in woods near Somma Lombardo, northwest of
Milan. Marino was stabbed to death and Tollis, her
boyfriend, was killed and buried next to each other.
Authorities say they had tried once before to kill the two
by burning them alive in a car on New Year's Eve.
In the third slaying in January 2004, Mariangela Pezzotta
Volpe's girlfriend was shot and then buried alive. The
Pezzotta case led authorities to the buried remains of
Tollis and Marino. The cult members also stand accused of
pushing a boy to commit suicide.
Prosecutors asked for relatively light prison terms
because the suspects cooperated with the investigation and
expressed remorse. Prosecutors and court officials were not
immediately available for comment after the ruling Tuesday.
The mother of Chiara Marino expressed outrage that
prosecutors didn't seek life terms. They are murderers,» Lina
Marino told Italian TV reporters. It's not fair.»
The verdict comes amid growing concern in Italy that young
people are turning to Satanism and the occult. On Thursday,
a Vatican-linked university opened a two-month course on
diabolical possession and exorcism.

Abuse of some illegal drugs on rise globally
HONG KONG, Feb 23 (Reuters) - Abuse of many kinds of
illegal drugs, boosted by online sales, is growing across the
world, international drug regulators said on Wednesday.
"There is increasing cyber trafficking," Akira Fujino, a
representative from the U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime, told a
narcotics conference. "Drugs are offered for sale through the
Internet." He gave no figures.
He said most of those drugs, available at online
pharmacies, were psychotropic substances subject to
international control.
Karen Tandy, Administrator of Drug Enforcement
Administration of the U.S. Department of Justice in the United
States, said those drugs sold via the Internet also included
pain killers that youths abused in illegitimate ways.
The U.S. accounts for about 25 million of the world's 185
million drug abusers.
Fujino said most Southeast Asian countries had reported
recent increase in the abuse of methamphetamine.
"In China, the production and sale of methamphetamine and
ecstasy is on an uptrend," said Liu Zhimin, Deputy
Secretary-General of of China's National Narcotics Control
Commission. "The fight against drugs is very difficult."
There are more than 1.14 million drug users in China.
Europe saw rising use of cocaine, synthetic drugs and
stimulants, while more young people were also consuming
cannabis, the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug
Addiction's Honorary Executive Director, Georges Estievenart,
said."In Hong Kong, the use of synthetic drugs and 'party'
drugs has increased. The number of cocaine users also
surged last year, in line with international trends. It may be due
to falls in cocaine prices," Hong Kong security secretary
Ambrose Leesaid.
Philomen Choi, Chairman of Hong Kong's Action Committee
Against Narcotics, added: "Drugs are now packaged as
harmless drugs. This is very alarming."

colonia britannica sembra essere cresciuto di pari passo con
forte ripresa registrata da Hong Kong a partire dalla meta' del
2003. E' quanto e' emerso oggi da una conferenza
internazionale sulla droga.
Ambrose Lee, segretario alla sicurezza di Hong Kong, ha
riferito che la crescita nel consumo di cocaina si sarebbe
inoltre rivelata in linea con un trend internazionale, favorito dal
calo dei prezzi delle droghe.
Nel 2004 a Hong Kong i sequestri di cocaina hanno seguito un
incremento annuo pari al 128%. In forte aumento anche l'uso
delle cosiddette 'party-drugs' (stupefacenti consumati
soprattutto durante le feste e in discoteca). L'economia di
Hong Kong e' affondata in una recessione dal 1997 fino alla

Mexico schools pull drug-smuggling folk song books
MONTERREY, Mexico, Feb 23 (Reuters) - A Mexican state is
withdrawing a popular songbook from primary schools after
discovering it contained "inappropriate" lyrics glorifying drug
smuggling, education officials said on Wednesday.
Authorities in the northern state of Chihuahua said they were
pulling 2,700 copies of "100 Corridos, Soul of the Mexican
Nation" from schools statewide after finding it included five
songs known as "narcocorridos."
Part of a folk tradition along the U.S.-Mexico border, the
popular ballads are belted out by foot-stomping accordion
bands. They sing up the exploits of local drug cartel capos and
lieutenants and are widely broadcast on radio and TV.
"Teachers used the book to analyze the corrido as a form of
popular expression, including narcocorridos," Eva Trujillo,
spokeswoman for the state's education secretariat, told
Reuters by telephone."But we decided it was not in keeping
with our campaign to promote positive values, and we are
withdrawing it," she added.
Trujillo said copies of the book were distributed last
April to school libraries throughout the state, which is a key
hub in the lucrative cross-border trade in cocaine, marijuana
and amphetamines.
It contained lyrics from popular ballads such as "The
Airplane from Colombia," about clandestine drug flights to the
region, and "The Lord of the Skies," a veiled reference to the
late head of the so-called Juarez cartel, Amado Carrillo.
Carrillo, who died during plastic surgery in 1997, earned
the nickname after stripping out Boeing 727 passenger jets to
haul cocaine to Chihuahua from Colombia by the tonne,
becoming a legend in local criminal lore.
The book has stirred a wave of condemnation from Mexican
politicians and media in recent days, although Trujillo said
education authorities had received no complaints from parents.

Actor Sizemore told to beat drugs or die
LOS ANGELES, Feb 24 (Reuters) - Actor Tom Sizemore was
told on Thursday to either beat his addiction to
methamphetamine or die from it.
A Los Angeles judge said the "Black Hawk Down" and "Saving
Private Ryan" actor was "out of control and cannot stop. Meth
has consumed any will he may have had to stop."
"There are two ways for you to go," Superior Court Judge
Antonio Barreto Jr. told Sizemore at a hearing. "One is to
recover. The other is to die."
Sizemore faces up to four years in jail when he is sentenced
next month on charges of methamphetamine possession and
violation of probation for a 2003 domestic violence conviction
stemming from a short-lived relationship with former Hollywood
madam Heidi Fleiss.
Prosecutors said Sizemore, 43, had failed court-imposed
drug testing seven times this month alone, despite living in a
drug treatment center. In one case, he was caught trying to
use a prosthetic penis sewn into his boxer shorts and filled
with a clean urine sample to fake the results.
The judge rejected a prosecution request that Sizemore be
taken into custody pending his March 24 sentencing date.

Un nuovo scandalo ha investito alcune guardie a cavallo
della Regina Elisabetta smascherate dalla testimonianza di un
anonimo cavaliere, che ha raccontato, e documentato
attraverso alcune impressionanti fotografie, usi e abusi
perpetrati all'interno della Household Division, la divisione
dell'esercito addetta alla protezione dei reali.
L'anonimo testimone ha rivelato che piu' di una volta, in
occasioni di parate ufficiali o visite di capi di Stato nel Regno
Unito, alcune guardie prestassero servizio sotto l'effetto di
stupefacenti o alcol. Per documentare i soprusi ai danni delle
nuove reclute, il Sun ha inoltre pubblicato alcune foto che
documentano nei minimi dettagli una sorta di rito di iniziazione:
i nuovi cavalieri, denudati e legati ad una rete metallica,
vengono prima ricoperti con gli escrementi degli animali, quindi
cosparsi di fieno e ''dati in pasto'' agli stessi animali. Ma
l'immagine piu' scioccante, destinata a scatenare le proteste
non solo degli animalisti, e' quella che raffigura un cavallo
costretto a bere una bottiglia di birra.
Secondo la fonte del tabloid si tratta di una foto risalente ad
una visita ufficiale a Zurigo (Svizzera) della sovrana, quando il
povero cavallo fu costretto a bere sette bottiglie di birra e una
di vino.
La settimana scorsa sempre il Sun aveva rivelato che nove
cavalieri erano finite sotto inchiesta per aver partecipato ad
un'orgia, filmata e fatta girare tra i commilitoni, nella caserma
delle Life Guards ad Hyde Park.(ANSA).

Tommy Chong's `The Marijuana-Logues' cancels tour
NEW YORK (AP)Tommy Chong's play has gone up in smoke.
The Marijuana-Logues» has canceled its spring tour after its
star, Tommy Chong, was barred from performing in it because
audience members were frequently lighting up during the
show. Chong, half of the comedy team Cheech & Chong, was
in danger of violating his probation, which bars him from
being around people using or selling illegal substances. He
served nine months in prison last year for conspiring to sell
drug paraphernalia.
The (parole) officer was compelled to revoke his ability to
continue on the shows,» said Phil Lobel, a publicist for the
play. The last thing he wants to do is go back to prison.»
The Marijuana-Logues» was on the second night of a North
America tour. It has played for nearly a year off-Broadway.
Chong had a special two-week run in New York and then went
on the road with the show. Following a kickoff performance
Feb. 18 in Vancouver, British Columbia,a Seattle show the
following day was especially smoky.
Lobel said the large 1,000-2,000 seat theaters were much
more difficult to patrol than the small Actors' Playhouse in New
York. The play expects to resume touring this summer, when
Chong's parole ends.
The 65-year-old comedian served nine months in prison,
beginning in 2003, after pleading guilty to conspiring to sell
drug paraphernalia. His home in Pacific Palisades, California,
was raided by police looking for smoking materials made by
Nice Dreams, a company named for one of the Cheech and
Chong movies.
Though the police found nearly a pound (450 grams) of
marijuana, Chong was never charged with marijuana
possession because the drug was not included in the search
warrant. Chong was released from prison in July.
The Marijuana-Logues,» a parody of Eve Ensler's The Vagina
Monologues,» is a three-man show that addresses the rites
and rituals of getting stoned.
I'm still on probation you know,» Chong told The Associated
Press before the Vancouver performance. Doing a show about
weed in the United States when you just got out of jail for
selling weed paraphernalia makes me a little nervous.»

that time, it was something new that came on the market,
and we went to the doctor and did it under doctors'
supervision.» Schwarzenegger has acknowledged taking
steroids, but pointed out that they were legal at the time.
We were experimenting with it. It was a new thing. So
you can't roll the clock back and say, 'Now I would change
my mind on this,»' he said, according to an excerpt posted

The former seven-time Mr. Olympia said he would not
encourage drug use because it sent the wrong message to
children. But he said he had no problem with athletes

La duchesse du Northumberland révèle au public son
Jardin des Poisons
LONDRES, 28 fév (AFP) - Le tout nouveau Jardin des Poisons
de la duchesse Jane Northumberland a ouvert ses portes au
public lundi au château d'Alnwick (nord de l'Angleterre),
rassemblant tout un éventail de plantes vénéneuses et
toxiques.
Des champignons hallucinogènes, du cannabis, du pavot à
l'origine de l'opium, du tabac ou encore le coca, dont est issue
la cocaïne, figurent aux côtés de plus de 50 autres plantes
dangereuses dans ce nouveau jardin, conçu par le paysagiste
belge Peter Virtz.
Il est situé dans la propriété qui appartient depuis plus de 700
ans à la famille de Northumberland, l'une des plus anciennes
familles aristocratiques du royaume.
Ce jardin montrera au grand public comment ces plantes ont
empoisonné, guéri et tué à travers les époques. Les visiteurs
seront escortés par des membres du service d'ordre autour
des clôtures murées du jardin afin d'éviter tout danger.
"Le jardin des poisons offrira un nouveau lieu, à l'extérieur
des salles de classe, pour que les gens parlent de l'abus de
drogues, dont la plupart poussent dans la nature", a déclaré la
duchesse de Northumberland en inaugurant ce jardin en
présence du chef de la police du Northumbria.
"Les drogues sont d'un intérêt majeur à travers le pays et une
question qui soulève les passions", a affirmé la duchesse, qui
a dû obtenir une autorisation du ministère de l'Intérieur pour
faire pousser ces plantes.

Galligani nel 1993, hanno per protagonisti alcuni dei circa
1800 ospiti della comunita' fondata da Vincenzo Muccioli, che
dal 1978 ha ospitato circa 15.000 persone. ''La nostra - scrive
Muccioli nella prefazione del depliant per la mostra - e' una
comunita' per la vita. Se proprio vogliamo darne una
definizione, la nostra e' una comunita' contro la
marginalizzazione sociale''.
La mostra al Parlamento europeo fino al 4 marzo e' in

Pumping up: Critics say Schwarzenegger sends mixed
messages on steroids
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Arnold Schwarzenegger, seven-time
Mr. Olympia and first-term governor of California, pays his
annual visit this weekend to the bodybuilding contest that
bears his name. But this year, his embrace of pumping iron
has become politically problematic because of the unfolding
steroid scandal in sports.
Bodybuilding by virtually everyone's account is totally
saturated, immersed with illegal drug use,» said Charles
Yesalis, a Pennsylvania State University professor who has
written books on steroids. His standing up there with them, I
think, delivers a very, very inappropriate message.»
Schwarzenegger arrived Friday night in Columbus for the
Arnold Classic to reconnect with adoring fans of the sport
that made him famous. As he walked out on stage to hand out
the first trophy, 4,000 spectators gave him a standing ovation.
This is really nice. The way I look at it, you look perfect. I love
it,» he said.
Instead of politics, the weekend is devoted to athletes and big
muscles. But the issue of steroids is just below the surface.
The cavernous hall at Columbus' convention center included
a booth that hawked protein supplements with the taunting
slogan Ban This.» Nearby, a pair of lawyers advertised their
expertise in steroid law while selling copies of a book titled
Legal Muscle.»
At least one bodybuilder in this year's competition has
admitted using steroids; another spent time in jail for a
steroid-related offense. Last year, federal agents investigating
steroids served grand jury subpoenas at the Arnold Classic.
California's governor acknowledges taking steroids as a
competitor. Last weekend, Schwarzenegger said in an ABC
interview that he opposes steroids now and dislikes the
huge monsters» they produce, but does not regret using
the bodybuilding substances when they were still legal.
It was a new thing,» he said, so you can't roll the clock back
and say, `No, I would change my mind,' or anything, because
for those days that's what we did.»
California state Sen. Jackie Speier, a Democrat who wrote
a bill Schwarzenegger vetoed last year that would have
created a list of banned substances for school sports, said
those comments amount to a very unclear message and one
that suggests, `Do as I say, not as I do.»' I would expect that
he would be making much stronger statements than he's
made,» Speier said.
Schwarzenegger, undeterred by the critics as usual, remains
the weekend's headliner, and has plenty of defenders here.
In my book, at least he's being honest, he's being upfront,»
said fitness photographer Amir Marandi, whose booth
displayed photos of bikini-clad women flexing their muscles.

programma di obesita' di due grandi ospedali di Buenos Aires
-. Inazitutto perche' necessariamente un paziente con problemi
cardiaci, come qualsiasi persona obesa e che ha fatto uso di
droga, presenta rischi di morte superiori al 50 per cento, e
secondo perche' simili interventi sono formalmente
controindicate in pazienti tossicodipendenti o ex''.
''In piu' - ha aggiunto Maria Burgui, specialista di chirurgia
gastrointestinale di un altro grande ospedale - esistono forti
rischi con l'anestesia e di complicazioni post-operatorie:
esistono altri mezzi meno rischiosi e aggressivi per ottenere gli
stessi risultati, perche' operare non serve a niente se il
paziente poi non modifica le proprie abitudini alimentari e le
proprie dipendenze''.
I risultati, secondo i medici colombiani che hanno operato
Maradona, sarebbero una riduzione del peso dagli attuali 128

LASCIARE LA SCUOLA
Quasi tre quarti meditano di abbandonare il ruolo
Londra, 23 mar. - Parafrasando un celebre motivo dei Pink
Floyd, si potrebbe dire: Kid leave the teachers alone. Gli
insegnanti del Regno Unito, secondo una studio riportato dal
Guardian, subiscono violenze e abusi, consumati nelle aule
scolastiche. Quasi tre quarti, sconsolati, stanno meditando di
abbandonare il ruolo.
Si susseguono i racconti degli insegnati costretti a disarmare i
propri studenti, che arrivano in classe assolutamente
disattenti,
dopo aver fatto uso massiccio di droghe psichedeliche nel fine
settimana. Tra i più giovani, sta infatti crescendo
vertiginosamente l'uso della ketamina, molto in voga nei primi
anni novanta e oggi tornata prepotentemente sulla scena.
Altri sostengono però che la droga spiega soltanto in parte il
fenomeno. Secondo molti, infatti, la vera causa resta
un'educazione latente. Semplicemente - si sostiene - non c'è
rispetto per i professori.
L'Associazione degli insegnati, che ha monitorato 300 scuole
secondarie, ha rilevato che il 46% degli insegnanti ha sofferto
problemi psicologici, a causa di abusi e violenze commessi
dagli studenti. Uno su sette ha denunciato di aver subito
attacchi fisici.
Adesso si teme una fuga in avanti. Da più parti si inizia a
sostenere la possibilità di sostituire le decrepite scuole
pubbliche con nuove e più efficienti strutture private. Il governo
però ha già dimostrato la sua contrarietà: la scuola pubblica
non chiuderà i battenti.

ha infatti assegnato a una societa' di Grosseto il bando
pubblico previsto dalla legge regionale con il 'Progetto Pilota
relativo
alla
coltivazione,
trasformazione
e
commercializzazione della canapa a scopi produttivi e
ambientali' della Regione Toscana.
Il progetto e' stato illustrato in occasione di un Tavolo di filiera
che si e' svolto recentemente presso gli uffici dell'Arsia di
Capannori, in provincia di Lucca, ed al quale hanno
partecipato i principali attori della filiera stessa, oltre a
rappresentanti di imprese e strutture di ricerca che collaborano
con la 'Soc. Canapone Srl' di Scarlino per la realizzazione del
progetto.

Whitney Houston enters rehab again
NEW YORK (AP) A year after her first reported stay in rehab,
Whitney Houston has again checked into a rehabilitation
facility. Whitney Houston has re-entered a rehabilitation facility
today,» her publicist, Nancy Seltzer, told The Associated
Press Wednesday. She declined to provide details.
The news was first reported by syndicated entertainment TV
show Access Hollywood.» In March 2004, Houston checked
herself into an undisclosed rehabilitation center.
After years of denying drug use, the pop diva said she had
used cocaine, marijuana and pills in an interview with
Diane Sawyer on ABC's Primetime» in 2002.
She has said she was using the power of prayer to help her
get over drugs.
In January 2000, Houston left behind a bag at an airport
in Hawaii that allegedly held less than half an ounce of
marijuana and three partially smoked marijuana cigarettes;
a petty misdemeanor drug charge was dismissed when a
counselor said Houston didn't need treatment for substance
abuse. Houston, 41, has been working with producer Clive
Davis on a comeback album.
The Grammy-winning singer is known for her rendition of
I Will Always Love You» and her role in the 1992 film
The Bodyguard.» Houston and R&B singer Bobby Brown have
been married since 1992 and have an 12-year-old daughter,
Bobbi Kristina. Brown has a history of drug and alcohol
arrests.
The couple live near Alpharetta, a suburb north of Atlanta.
MUSICA: WHITNEY HOUSTON ancora nell'inferno della
droga - la cantante in un centro di recupero per
tossicodipendenti
New York, 24 mar. - Ancora un ricovero in un centro di
riabilitazione per Whitney Houston. La cantante americana non
ha evidentemente risolto i problemi con la tossicodipendenza
che da anni ormai la perseguitano.
Nel marzo del 2004 la Houston si era gia' fatta ricoverare in un
centro per disintossicarsi: era stata quella l'occasione scelta
dall'artista per confessare pubblicamente, dopo anni di
smentite, di aver fatto uso di cocaina, marijuana e pasticche,
aggiungendo che aveva provato con la preghiera a liberarsi
dalla droga. ''Non mi piacepensare a me come a una
tossicodipendente -aveva spiegato la Houston- Mi piace
pensare che sono stata soggetta a una brutta abitudine che
puo' essere considerata finita. Non sono sempre fortissima ma
nemmeno debole e non mi fermero'''.
Dal centro di riabilitazione, pero', la Houston era uscita dopo
soli cinque giorni dicendo che avrebbe continuato le cure
presso un'altra clinica perche' si sentiva troppo chiusa tra le
mura dove era stata ricoverata.
Un ''inferno'' arrivato nel 2000 sotto gli occhi del pubblico di
tutto il mondo che la ricordava straordinaria interprete dell'hit
''All at once'' e ''I will always love you'' e del film ''Bodyguard''
al fianco di Kevin Costner, l'unico vero successo della sua
carriera cinematografica cui ha fatto seguito il flop clamoroso
''Uno sguardo nel cielo''. 41 anni ad agosto prossimo, la
Houston era stata arrestata proprio nel gennaio del 2000
all'aeroporto delle Hawaii perche' trovata in possesso di una
borsa contenente marijuana. Ma la vita difficile della Houston
e' stata segnata dai problemi del marito, il cantante rhythm and
blues Bobby Brown, sposato nel 1992 con il quale ha avuto
una figlia, Bobbi Kristina, che ora ha 12 anni: Brown ha una
storia di droga, alcol e carcere oltre a varie accuse di percosse
alla moglie con la quale vive vicino ad Alpharetta, a nord di
Atlanta.
Nel dicembre 2003 la Houston aveva denunciato il marito per
un labbro rotto e una guancia ferita al termine di una lite
furibonda. Per evitare l'arresto Brown aveva cercato di lasciare
Atlanta, poi si era costituito alla polizia e l'aveva fatta franca
complice il ritiro della denuncia della moglie.
Il precario equilibrio psichico di Whitney e' stato messo ancora
alla prova due anni fa quando e' morto il padre John: la
cantante non si presento' neppure alle esequie e la stampa
ricordo' il pessimo rapporto che intercorreva tra i due. Il padre
pochi mesi prima di morire aveva denunciato la figlia per 100
milioni di dollari sostenendo di aver salvato la carriera della
star dopo l'accusa di possesso per droga.
Gia' cinque anni prima si era tenuta una riunione al Beverly
Hills Hotel, cui avrebbe anche partecipato la cantante gospel
Cissy Houston un esperto di droga e alcuni amici che avevano
cercato di convincere, invano, Whitney. ''Se non ti dai dei limitiaveva detto la mamma alla Houston- la gente non ti rispettera'
piu'''. E nel 2001 si erano diffuse addirittura voci della morte
della cantante per overdose. Ora sembrava che Whitney si
fosse lasciata i problemi alle spalle e stava lavorando con il
produttore Clive Davis a quello che doveva essere il suo

Sizemore sentenced to nearly two years on drug-related
charges
LOS ANGELES (AP) Actor Tom Sizemore was sentenced to
nearly two years in jail for repeatedly failing drug tests while on
probation, but was allowed to remain free while he appeals a
domestic violence conviction.
Sizemore, 43, failed seven drug tests, admitted
methamphetamine use twice and failed to show up for further
testing while on probation for a 2003 domestic violence
conviction involving his ex-girlfriend, former Hollywood madam
Heidi Fleiss, prosecutor Sean Carney said last month.
Sizemore, who is best known for his roles in Saving Private
Ryan» (1998) and Black Hawk Down» (2001), sobbed,
gestured and begged for another chance Thursday as he
delivered a rambling speech before being sentenced by
Superior Court Judge Antonio Barreto Jr.
He pleaded for leniency, saying he had broken his parents'
hearts and felt like a 12-year-old child. Sizemore also said he
was engaged in a struggle right now to regain the better part of
who I am. ... I never thought I had this disease.»
I assure your honor that I'm not acting now. I'm not acting, I'm
begging, I'm beseeching you. I can't imagine my future without
performing.»
Sizemore was back in court later Thursday for a hearing in a
felony conviction of methamphetamine possession. He faces
referral to an intensive drug treatment program under a voterapproved state initiative that requires first- and second-time
nonviolent drug offenders to be sent for treatment instead of
prison. If Sizemore refuses the treatment, he could face up to
two years in state prison.
