Graduated in Physics at the University of Pavia (1978)
Graduated in Medical Physics at the University of Milan, Italy (1991).

Professional experience and skills
Actually researcher and professor at the University of Pavia (since 2002). He is giving the following courses:
• Radiation protection, master degree in Physics (Faculty of Science);
• Medical physics, Nurse and Obstetric degree (Faculty of Medicine);
• Physical risks, postgraduate school of Hygiene (Faculty of Medicine).
He has been the Manager of the health, safety and environmental Division and of the Radiation protection Service of the University (1991 – 2002). Performing this tasks he got also the
following experience: laser and ultraviolet risk assessment and protection.
Responsible for the Health and safety at work Service at many other institutions such as: the
National Centre of Hadron Therapy Foundation in Pavia (CNAO, 2006 – 2010); National Institute of Molecular Genetics in Milan (INGM, 2007 - 2010) and also at private companies, hospitals and medical divisions (some are listed below).
Radiation Protection Advisor for many institutions: i.e. University of Pavia (1991-2003); Nuclear research reactor of the University of Pavia (GE Triga Mark reactor, 1999 – 2001 and as
RPA replacement since 2005); National Centre of Hadron Therapy Foundation in Pavia
(CNAO, 2007 – 2010); National Institute of Nuclear Physics in Pavia (INFN, since 2002); Fabrication yard of Saipem SpA (since 2012); TECO srl (since 2010); Industria Termoplastica

Specific experience in the following radiation protection areas:
• Nuclear research reactor;
• Research laboratories using ionizing radiation sources in physics, biology, geology, chemistry, pharmacy, radiochemistry;
• Medical practices: radiodiagnostic and radiotherapy;
• Radon indoor and Natural Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM) exposures;
• Environmental radiological monitoring (sites next to the Caspian sea, 2003 - 2006).
• Radiation protection in industrial radiography (Non Destructive Testing) at fabrication
yards located in: Angola, Nigeria, Congo, Arabia, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and
Italy (since 2010).
Been involved in several researches, among which:
• Radiation dosimetry with electronic paramagnetic resonance, EPR with the BeO termoluminescent dosimeters (1984);
• Radiation protection of patients: risk assessment for patients undergoing cystourethrography examination (1991-1992);
• Radiation protection in neutron scanning of containers (2007 – 2011);
• Natural radioactivity influence on the ARGO YBJ cosmic ray detector (Italian Chinese scientific collaboration in Tibet, 2007 up to now);
• Analysis of radon time variations (2003 up to now).
Been responsible of the research on earthquake prediction using radon gas time variations in
soil as seismic precursor (on the occasion of the earthquake occurred in Ecuador in 1986).
International Cooperation
From 1984 to 1991: working in South America (Ecuador and Bolivia), involved in the international cooperation at Cooperazione Internazionale (Italian non-governamental organization).
In Ecuador, working at the Polytechnic of Chimborazo (ESPOCH, Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo, Riobamba, Ecuador, 1984 -1988); his job description involved:
• Professor of Physics and of Radiation protection at the Faculty of Science;
• Organize of the “Laboratorio de tecnicas nucleares”;
• Collaborate with the National Regulatory Board (CEEA, Comisiòn Ecuatoriana de Energìa
Atòmica, Quito);
• Manager the investigation on the earthquake prediction (see also researches).
In Bolivia, working as director of the Cooperazione Internazionale offices (1989 - 1991), responsible for several cooperation projects supported both by the Italian Government and by
International Institutions (Red Cross, UNDP, etc).
Collaboration with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), about radiation protection
in industrial radiography (WGIR, Working Group on Industrial Radiography of the ISEMR System, since 2011) and as Member of the assessment team about the Agency’s radiation protection activities (2012 – 2013).
