Cosa accade quando il cibo
finisce nelle mani “sbagliate”?
Ce lo mostrano due designer
dello studio olandese Lernert
& Sander, che per conto del
quotidiano De Volkskrant hanno
realizzato una vera e propria
opera d’arte alimentare. Alcuni
tra i più comuni cibi al naturale
sono stati trasformati in 98
cubetti di 2,5 cm per lato, ognuno
perfetto e assolutamente uguale
all’altro. Una composizione di
mini sculture (della quale esiste
anche una stampa acquistabile in
edizione limitata) che c’è già chi
assicura ispirerà una nuova moda
per aperitivi a base di finger food.

art with food. Some of the
most common foods have been
transformed into 98 cubes of

Ci sono voluti ben vent’anni di lavoro
e oltre 50 mila osservazioni nel Parco
Nazionale di Masai Mara per smentire
l’antico proverbio africano: “è meglio
l’ira del leone, che l’amicizia delle
iene”. Ma alla fine, tre ricercatori del
National Institute for Mathematical
and Biological Synthesis ce l’hanno
fatta, pubblicando sull’Ecology Letters uno studio che dimostra come la
società delle iene si regga sull’amicizia
e come questi animali riconoscano
istintivamente come loro amici “gli
amici degli amici”. Stringere legami
forti tra i membri del gruppo è quindi
l’ingrediente più importante per
mantenere la coesione sociale. Le
iene lo sanno da sempre, da prima che
Zuckerberg ci mettesse lo zampino.
It has taken a good twenty years of
work and more than 50 thousand observations in the National Park of Masai
Mara to disprove of the old African
proverb: “it is better the wrath of the
lion, than the friendship of the hyenas”.
But in the end, three researchers from
the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis have done
so publishing in the Ecology Letters a
study that shows how the society of hyenas works on friendship and how these
animals instinctively recognise as their
friends “friends of friends”. Forging
strong bonds between group members is
therefore the most important ingredient to maintain social cohesion. Hyenas
have always known this, even before
Zuckerberg put it to the test.

Oscar e campione d’incassi al botteghino, di cui da
qualche mese è stata ufficializzata la messa in vendita.
All’interno del lussuosissimo loft, situato al 102 di
Prince Street nel quartiere di Soho, si potrà rivivere
l’atmosfera magica di una delle storie d’amore più
famose del cinema, quella tra la dolce Molly e il romantico Sam (alias Demi Moore e Patrick Swayze). Unica
nota negativa? Il prezzo. Questa casa è un gioiello da
ben 10 milioni e mezzo di dollari.

about the house in the famous film Ghost, winner of two
Academy Awards and box office hit. The house went on
sale officially a few months ago. Inside the luxurious loft,
located at 102 Prince Street in Soho, you can relive the
magical atmosphere of one of the most famous love stories
of film, the one between the sweet Molly and the romantic

Questo è il Messico più vero e
autentico, dove ancora oggi si
rispetta il grande comandamento
dell’ospitalità: “mi casa es tu casa”
A Chichén Itzà sono stati
trovati sette campi per la
pelota (sferisteri) ed il principale è il più imponente che
sia mai stato scoperto, lungo
circa 146 metri e largo quasi
37, circondato da mura alte
8,5 metri.
Nel mezzo delle due mura
laterali è posto, a un'altezza
di 7,5 metri, un cerchio di
pietra, abbellito da motivi a
forma di serpente. I giocatori
dovevano tirare una palla di
caucciù attraverso questi cerchi non usando le mani, ma
gomiti, ginocchia e fianchi.

non doveva toccare il terreno
perché altrimenti si sarebbe
interrotto il corso simbolico
dell'astro.

’archeologia maya, un mare fantastico, meraviglie naturali,
fenicotteri, tartarughe, grotte. Lo Yucatán è una delle
zone più suggestive del Messico, con un’ottima gastronomia e splendidi alberghi. Un posto dove scegliere se stare in
un tranquillo isolamento o scatenarsi fra la pazza folla. Ce
n’è davvero per tutti i gusti. Anche per gli animi più sensibili
al fascino sottile del misticismo e della poesia. Per chi sa apprezzare ecosistemi di foreste tropicali e lagune popolate da
scimmie e giaguari – rari – , coccodrilli e iguana. A due passi
da un mare turchese e straordinari reperti di una stagione
fantastica della civiltà.
Le suggestioni dello Yucatán sono davvero sorprendenti
come i Cenotes, luoghi misteriosi, grotte molto importanti
nella cultura maya, che si aprono nel terreno e diventano
piccole piscine fresche dove si può nuotare in un magico
silenzio. Poi ci sono le meraviglie infinite, le opere dell’uomo
che hanno fatto la Storia e che ancora oggi custodiscono
misteri e tengono impegnati gli studiosi. Pochi luoghi al
mondo scolpiscono l’anima come Chichen Itza, sede archeologica non ancora del tutto interpretata: il suo nome significa

sue rovine comprendono elementi architettonici di incredibile bellezza, nati dalla fusione dell'arte maya con quella
tolteca e sono particolarmente suggestive anche perché non
sono stati ancora decifrati con esattezza i meccanismi che
regolavano tutti i riti che qui si svolgevano, dal gioco della
pelota ai sacrifici umani. E il raggio magico del sole che nei
due equinozi anima un serpente che non esiste ma che si
vede scivolare lungo la scalinata del Castillo, la meravigliosa
piramide di Kukulkan, dove agli equinozi di primavera e
di autunno, al calare e al sorgere del sole, gli angoli della
piramide proiettano un'ombra a forma di serpente piumato,
Kukulkan appunto, lungo la scalinata nord.
Ma anche la contemporaneità dello Yucatán merita grande
attenzione. Merida, la capitale, è città interessante, con un
centro storico fra i più grandi e affascinanti del Messico, le
chiese e le haciendas, grandi ranch a conduzione familiare che hanno segnato lo stile di vita di questa regione.
Stupisce lo Yucatán, per una bellezza straripante. Fenicotteri, il bagno con gli innocui squali balena, le tartarughe
in ambienti che una lungimirante politica ambientalista
riesce a salvaguardare ma a non negare alla rispettosa visita
dei viaggiatori. Questo è il Messico più vero e autentico,
dove ancora oggi si rispetta il grande comandamento
dell’ospitalità: “mi casa es tu casa”. E qui non sono soltanto
parole.

At Chichen Itza there were
discovered seven ball courts for
the pelota and the main one is
the most impressive that has
ever been discovered, long about
146 meters and wide almost 37,
surrounded by high walls of 8.5
meters.
In the middle of the two side
walls, placed at a height of 7.5
meters, there is a circle of stone
decorated with motifs in the
form of a serpent. The players had to throw a rubber ball
through these circles not using hands but elbows, knees
and hips. The ball, a symbol of
the Sun, was not to touch the
ground because otherwise it
would interrupt the symbolic
course of the stars.
Between natural beauty and the ruins of
the ancient Maya civilisation, there is
Yucatán, a magical and enchanting land

aya archeology, a fantastic sea, natural wonders, flamingos,
turtles, caves. Yucatán is one of the most suggestive areas of
Mexico, with good food and beautiful hotels. A place where
you can choose to stay in quiet isolation or have fun between the
partying crowd. There's something for every taste. Even for those
who are more sensitive to the subtle charm of mysticism and poetry, for those who apreciate the ecosystem of tropical forests and
lagoons populated by rare monkeys and jaguars, crocodiles and
iguanas. Just around the corner, a turquoise sea and the extraordinary remains of a fantastic civilization.
Yucatán's wonders are amazing. Like the Cenotes, mysterious
places, very important caves in the maya culture, wich open in to
the ground and become small pools where you can swim in magical silence. Then there are the endless wonders, the work of men
who have made history and that still today guard mysteries and
keep researchers busy. Few places in the world will speak to the
soul as Chichen Itza, archaeological site not yet fully understood:

its name means "mouth of the well of the Itza" and it is the most
impressive and grandiose of the lost cities of the Maya people. It
was founded in the ninth century and mysteriously abandoned in
the fifteenth. Its ruins include architectural elements of incredible
beauty, born from the fusion of the Toltec and Mayan art. They
are particularly striking because it is not yet known exactly about
the mechanisms that regulated all the rituals that were held here,
from the game of pelota to the human sacrifices. There is also the
magical ray of sun that during the two equinoxes brings life to a
snake that does not exist but that you see slide down the stairway
of the Castillo, the beautiful pyramid of Kukulkan, where during
the equinoxes of spring and autumn, at the setting and rising of
the sun, the corners of the pyramid cast a shadow in the shape
of feathered serpent, Kukulkan to be precise, along the north
staircase. The contemporary Yucatán also deserves great attention.
Mérida, the capital city, is interesting with one of the biggest and
most fascinating historic centers in Mexico, churches and haci-

ignor Governatore, dall’Europa
si vola finalmente senza scalo fino
a Mérida. Lei stesso ha definito il
volo di Blue Panorama che parte da
Milano Malpensa, non soltanto “un
collegamento aereo, ma un ponte per le
persone e la cultura”.
Proprio così. La connessione tra un posto
e un altro, ed in questo caso tra regioni
piene di storia come la Lombardia in Italia
e Yucatán in Messico, significa di più che
un nuovo volo. Significa creare opportunità per avvicinare le persone e spingere
l’Economia.
Mérida e lo Yucatán sono affascinanti e
il turismo è una delle voci più importanti per l’economia dello Stato. Un
territorio fantastico dove la conservazione, sia dei tesori archeologici
che della natura, è fondamentale: coniugare il rispetto per il vostro patrimonio storico e naturale con la fruibilità è
il segreto del vostro successo?
Lo Yucatán è un territorio nel quale si
può godere degli esempi della migliore
architettura Maya, come ad esempio lo
stile Puuc in Uxmal, città come Mérida
o meraviglie naturali quali i cenotes.
Tutta la regione del Caribe è un itinerario
unico. La nostra responsabilità è che tutto
questo venga conservato al meglio e tutti
ne possano godere. Solo un risultato è
importante per noi: far vivere ai visitatori
un’esperienza a 360 gradi. Questo è il
nostro obiettivo.
Quetzalcoatl, il serpente piumato, il
mito di Kukulkan, il gioco della palla a
Chichen Itza, la piramide e il raggio di
sole nell’equinozio di primavera: per
lei che è di Merida, l’orgoglio delle sue
origini è anche un aiuto a governare
meglio?
Noi abitanti dello Yucatán siamo fieri
della nostra storia e delle nostre tradizioni.
Ci inorgogliscono le abilità matematiche
degli antichi maya e la vita attuale delle comunità rurali. Ci piace l’aria di tranquillità
che si respira qui, e abbiamo chiaro come
sia importante che le famiglie dello Yucatán vivano meglio. Come Governatore, il
mio compito, il mio obiettivo, ciò che mi muove, è l’orgoglio di
ciò che siamo e che si converta in benessere per tutti.
Gli italiani apprezzano da sempre lo Yucatán, dove riescono
a godere, in un unico viaggio, di sole, mare, cultura e natura:
come sono i turisti italiani visti dal Governatore dello
Yucatán?
Noi abitanti dello Yucatán e gli italiani siamo molto simili perché
sappiamo goderci la vita. Ci piace riunirci a mangiare in famiglia
e degustare la nostra particolare gastronomia. A entrambi piace
lodare la propria cultura e la propria gente e inoltre ci affascina
conoscere le altre culture e stringere nuove amicizie. Per questo,
sono sicuro che i turisti italiani si porteranno a casa molto di più
che un souvenir dalla nostra Terra; siamo pronti per dargli il più
grande dei benvenuti e rendere il loro soggiorno indimenticabile.
La cucina messicana è fra le più apprezzate nel mondo: alcuni la paragonano, per ricchezza e varietà, alla cinese e alla
italiana. La gastronomia yucateca ha piatti particolari: quali
sono i suoi preferiti?
Non chiedetemelo, sono molti. Però credo di avere un piatto
preferito per ogni regione. Per esempio, a Merida mi piace molto
mangiare il Queso Relleno (formaggio ripieno), il cui ingrediente
principale è il formaggio olandese Edamer, che si pensa possa
essere arrivato nello Yucatán nell’epoca dei pirati. Sulla costa mi
piace mangiare il Pulpo en su Tinta (polipo nel suo sugo), il polipo
nello Yucatan è uno dei principali prodotti che esportiamo in
Italia. Della parte orientale dello stato ciò che più mi piace mangiare sono i Lomitos de Valladolid, si tratta di maiale con salsa di
pomodoro. Mentre del Sud, il Pavo en Relleno Negro (tacchino
al ripieno nero) si riempie con un condimento di peperoncino
tostato. E dappertutto si può mangiare la Cochinita Pibil, che è il
piatto tipico tradizionale yucateca di fama mondiale: il maialino
da latte avvolto in foglie di banano e cotto in buche scavate nel
terreno.
Sempre in tema di gastronomia, lei visiterà l’Expo a settembre: in questa edizione dedicata al cibo e alla vita, cosa
propongono il Messico e lo Yucatan in particolare?
Prima di tutto, come feci alla cerimonia del volo inaugurale
Merida-Milano a Malpensa, voglio fare le mie congratulazioni
alla città di Milano per l’organizzazione dell’Expo 2015, soprattutto per aver messo in primo piano il tema dell’alimentazione
e della sostenibilità. Questo sarà il grande argomento del futuro
dell’umanità. Il Messico e lo Yucatán partecipano con il meglio
di cui dispongono. Lo Yucatán sarà all’Expo a Settembre, ed
esporremo alimenti come il miele di melipona, il chile habanero
e in particolar modo il mais. Ci aggreghiamo all’iniziativa del
Consiglio di Ricerca in Agricoltura di Bergamo, per mostrare
la diversità e la varietà del mais, le possibilità di consumo e la
cultura associata alla sua produzione. Inoltre presenteremo anche
una mostra artistica e gastronomica dello Yucatán.
Signor Governatore, lei ha abolito il torneo del Lazo, quello
che molti consideravano una tortura per tori e cavalli: scelta
politica a favore della tutela degli animali che denota una
forte sensibilità ambientalista. Il futuro del mondo, non solo
del Messico e dell’Italia, passa anche dalle piccole cose?
Sì, sono convinto che ogni decisione che prendiamo da soli oppure insieme ad altri abbia un effetto nell’ambiente in cui viviamo
e nella società. Per questo dobbiamo prendere le migliori decisioni, dalle piccole alle grandi. Nello Yucatán ci stiamo sforzando
per far si che gli animali vengano rispettati, per ridurre il consumo dell’acqua e per recuperare i nostri boschi. La responsabilità
è di tutti, autorità, società, imprese e anche dei turisti. Credo che
tutti possiamo mettere in atto pratiche di sostenibilità.

r. Governor, finally it is possible to fly direct from Europe to
Merida. You yourself have defined the Blue Panorama flight
that departs from Milan Malpensa, not only “an air link, but
a bridge for people and culture”.
Yes indeed. The connection between a place and another, and in this case
between regions full of history such as Lombardy in Italy and Yucatán in
Mexico, means more than just a new flight. It means creating opportunities
for bringing people together and a push for the economy.
Merida and Yucatán are charming places and tourism is one of
the most important aspects for the economy of the State. A fantastic area where conservation, both of archaeological treasures
and of nature, is essential: is the secret of your success combining
respect for your natural and historical heritage with accessibility
for all?
Yucatán is an area where one can enjoy the best examples of mayan
architecture, such as the Puuc style in Uxmal, cities like Merida or the

natural wonders such as the cenotes. The whole region of the Caribbean
is a unique itinerary. Our responsibility is to ensure that all this is well
preserved and everyone can enjoy it. Only one result is important for us:
to allow visitors a 360 degree experience. This is our goal.
Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent, the myth of Kukulkan, the
ball game of ChichenItza, the pyramid and the radius of the sun
on the spring equinox: for you being from Merida, does the pride
of your own origins also help to better govern?
We, people of Yucatan, are proud of our history and our traditions. We
are proud of the math skills of the ancient Maya and the current life of
rural communities. We like the air of tranquility that reigns here, and we
are clear about what is important for Yucatán families to live better. As
a Governor, my job, my goal, what moves me, is the pride of what we are
and that is converted into well-being for all.
Italians have always loved Yucatán, where they can enjoy, in a
single trip, sun, sea, culture and nature. How are Italian tourists seen by the Governor of Yucatán?
The people of Yucatán and Italians are very similar because we both
enjoy life. We like to get together as a family to eat and enjoy our special
cuisine. Both like to praise their own culture and their own people, and
we are both fascinated by learning about other cultures and making new
friends. For this, I am sure that the Italian tourists will take home much
more than a souvenir from our country; we are ready to give them the
greatest of welcomes and make their stay unforgettable.
Mexican cuisine is one of the most appreciated in the world: some
compare it to Chinese and Italian food for richness and variety. The
Yucatecan cuisine has particular dishes: what are your favorites?
Don't ask, there are too many. But I think I have a favorite dish from
each region. For example, in Merida I like to eat Queso Relleno (stuffed
cheese), where the main ingredient is the Dutch cheese Edam, which
is thought to have arrived in Yucatán during the age of pirates. On
the coast I like to eat il Pulpo en su Tinta (octopus in its own juice),
octopus in Yucatan is one of the main products we export to Italy. From
the eastern part of the state what I most like to eat are the Lomitos de
Valladolid, pork with tomato sauce. While from the South, the Pavo en
Relleno Negro (turkey stuffed with black) it is filled with a roasted chilli
dressing. Everywhere you can eat CochinitaPibil, which is the world
renowned traditional Yucatán dish: suckling pig wrapped in banana
leaves and cooked in pits dug in the ground.
Still speaking of food, you will visit the Expo in September: in
this edition dedicated to food and life, what do Yucatán and
Mexico offer in particular?
First of all, as I did at the inauguration ceremony for the MilanMalpensa to Merida flight, I want to congratulate the city of Milan for
the organization of the Expo 2015, especially for having brought to the
forefront the question of food and sustainability. This will be the major
topic in the future of humanity. Mexico and Yucatán participate with
the best they have. Yucatán will be at the Expo in September, and will
expose foods such as honey of Melipona, the habanero chile and especially
corn.We will work with the initiative of the Council of Agricultural
Research in Bergamo, to show the diversity and variety of corn, the possibilities of consumption and the culture associated with its production.
In addition we will also present an art and gastronomical exhibition on
Yucatán.
Mr. Governor, you have abolished the tournament of Lazo,
what many considered a torture for bulls and horses: a political
choice in favor of the protection of animals that highlights an
environmental sensitivity. The future of the world, not only in
Mexico and Italy, will also be about the small things?
Yes, I am convinced that every decision we make on our own or together
with others has an effect on our environment and society. For this we
have to make the best decisions, from small to big ones. In Yucatán we are
striving to ensure that animals are respected, that water consumption
is reduced and our forests are recovered. The responsibility belongs to
everyone, authorities, companies, firms and even tourists. I think we can
all implement sustainability practices.

50 million records sold, more than 50 years of career, over 30 albums released, and a
following of groupies that we are not even counting. These are the added up numbers
of two giants of music that have influenced more than anyone else the British and
international scene in the last 30 years; two youngsters who have never ceased to hit out
maliciously, with insults and under the table kicks which are more or less affectionate.
Although they have never been direct competitors on a music level – one a leader of
the Britpop movement, the other a giant of pop, without interfering with each other –
between Noel Gallagher and Robbie Williams rages a war that has gone on for two decades. Like two boxers who provoke each other, hopping around and pulling punches in
the air: «Robbie Williams? You mean that fat dancer from Take That?», says one; «Noel,
you can kiss my perfect ass», replies the other. Often said in front of a large audience,
during a concert or the umpteenth award: you might think this is a publicity stunt, or a
way to keep feet on the ground. Or, more likely, we are facing two geniuses that just don't
get along. Also because, Noel Gallagher, has never had his feet firm on the ground - «I do not
care about being rich; it's just that my talent is inevitable» - and his enormous ego paved the
way for Oasis with constant friction with his brother Liam, until the break up. A little like
Robbie who, as a troublemaker with a rocker spirit, was asked to leave his band of young
models. Liam Gallagher was once on good terms with the former Take That boy: once he
left the boy band, Robbie began to gravitate around the world of Liam's rock'n'roll, sharing

utrire il Pianeta, Energia per la Vita, questo il tema
scelto dall’Italia per ospitare la fiera internazionale
dell’alimentazione, l’Expo di Milano 2015. Dal 1 maggio al 31
ottobre, 130 Paesi mettono in tavola le rispettive tradizioni culinarie per confrontarsi sui concetti di benessere, eco sostenibilità
e distribuzione delle risorse. Perché, come diceva Gandhi, “la
forza, l’integrità e la felicità di una nazione sono direttamente
proporzionali allo stato di salute dei suoi cittadini”. Così, dalle
virtù terapeutiche dei datteri arabi alle proprietà antiossidanti
del salmone giapponese, il cibo parla ai visitatori dell’anima di
un Paese e del carattere dei suoi abitanti. Fra gli allestimenti
più esotici della Fiera, il Padiglione dedicato a Cuba e ispirato
all’idea di indipendenza alimentare. Un angolo caraibico che affida ai gusti decisi della cucina creola il racconto delle sue radici
aborigene, spagnole, arabe e inglesi. Sullo sfondo, l’elemento
dominante della natura, generosa con i cubani sia in fatto di paradisi ambientali che di doni della terra. Caschi di banane, distese
di palme e foglie di tabacco restituiscono appieno l’atmosfera

tropicale, evocata dalla fragranza della mariposa, fiore nazionale
cubano disseminato un po’ ovunque. Tra papaye, avocado, piante
di manioca e frutti di mare, un posto d’eccellenza spetta alla
canna da zucchero, essenza dell’identità cubana e ingrediente
base del rum, offerto ai visitatori da barman esperti nella preparazione di mojito e Cuba Libre. Protagonista indiscussa della
location è però la Stazione di Ricerca sul Cacao – nell’ambito
del cluster cui partecipano altri sei Paesi – che fa mostra dei 256
genotipi esistenti sull’isola di Cuba. Presentato in tutte le sue
declinazioni – dal fascino dei semi scuri alla lavorazione della
cioccolata in tazza – il cacao testimonia gli umori afrodisiaci
della terra caliente. Altra sorpresa dal sapore esotico ce la regala
il Padiglione Messico che stupisce il pubblico sfoggiando
un’architettura dall’audace forma di pannocchia: la struttura è
percorribile attraverso rampe elicoidali che conducono sul tetto
dove ad attenerci vi un giardino urbano. Il Padiglione ospiterà a
settembre l’evento organizzato dalla regione dello Yucatan: una
mostra sulla cultura maya e diversi eventi gastronomici.

eeding the Planet, Energy for Life, this is the chosen theme by Italy
for hosting the International Food Fair at the Milan Expo 2015. From
the 1st of May to the 31st of October 130 countries bring to the table their
culinary traditions for confrontation on the concepts of well-being, environmental sustainability and resource distribution. Because, as Gandhi said,
“the strength, integrity and happiness of a nation is directly proportional to
the health of its citizens”. So, from the therapeutic virtues of Arabian dates
to the antioxidant properties of Japanese salmon, food talks to visitors about
the soul of its country and the character of its inhabitants. Among the more
exotic expositions at the Fair the pavilion dedicated to Cuba, inspired by the
idea of food independence. A Caribbean corner which relies on the strong
flavors of the Creole cuisine to tell the story of its aboriginal, Spanish, Arabic and English roots. In the background, the dominant element of nature,
generous with Cubans both in terms of environmental paradises and gifts
from earth. Bunches of bananas, expanses of palm trees and tobacco leaves
fully show the tropical atmosphere, evoked by the scent of the mariposa
flower, Cuban national flower scattered everywhere. Among papayas,
avocados, cassava plants and seafood, a place of excellence is reserved for
the sugarcane, essence of the Cuban identity and a basic ingredient for rum,
offered to visitors from barmen expert in preparing mojito and Cuba Libre.
The undisputed main attraction of the location, however, is the Research
Station on Cocoa – a cluster involving six other countries – which hosts a
show of 256 genotypes existing on the island of Cuba. Presented in all its
forms – from the charm of the dark seeds to the processing of hot chocolate –
cocoa testifies the aphrodisiac moods of this terra caliente. Another surprise
with an exotic feel is given to us in the Mexico Pavilion, which amazes the
audience by showing off the audacity of architecture in a form of a cob: you
can walk the structure through spiral ramps that lead to the roof where
there is an urban garden. In September the Pavilion will host the event
organized by the Yucatán region: an exhibition on the Maya culture and
various culinary events.

i sono viaggi straordinari che si fanno spostandosi di pochi
chilometri. O anche restando a casa, magari sfogliando un
libro. Seguendo la rotta tracciata da Steve McCurry, straordinario investigatore di sguardi, volti, anime, testimone di un
presente che in poco tempo è diventato già passato, e di un
mondo che sta fuggendo via, cancellando tradizioni e culture. O
anche semplici vite umane, con orrori che sono colpa dell’uomo o
mostruosi capricci della natura.
"Oltre lo sguardo", la mostra di McCurry a Cinecittà, nel tempio
romano del Cinema, è un piccolo capolavoro. Allestimento
fantastico, emozionante, audioguida che sottolinea alcune delle
foto più significative, video in cui questo fotografo racconta le
sue esperienze, suggerisce e consiglia con la semplicità del vicino
di casa diventato amico. È lui, per chi non lo ricordasse, ad aver
fotografo la ragazza afghana con gli occhi verdi pubblicata nel
1985 sulla copertina del National Geographic e diventata il simbolo
di quel paese e dei suoi tormenti. La mostra è un appuntamento
da non perdere, che fino al 30 settembre resterà a Roma e poi
emigrerà verso altre città. Ci sono volti - “Amo i ritratti” spiega
McCurry – luoghi, attimi, c’è quel Sudest del mondo, e soprattutto il Sudest asiatico che me lo fa sentire così vicino, c’è l’India
dove è tornato quasi cento volte, ci sono le ansie della Birmania,
le speranze della Cambogia, il Vietnam, la Thailandia, le tragedie
dell’Afghanistan, l’Africa. Una sola foto del Perù, con un bambino
in lacrime che impugna una pistola, e soltanto una anche del Brasile, uno splendido corpo di donna in penombra che cammina in
mezzo a una rotaia verso i grattacieli della città. Un voto di fiducia verso il domani. McCurry è un poeta e ci consegna da grande
artista le immagini di un mondo che sta scomparendo. Le affida
alla nostra memoria, come un istante di eternità, perché quel che
è stato, e già non è più, rimanga almeno nei nostri ricordi. Oltre
che nei nostri sogni.

here are extraordinary journeys that can be done by moving
only a few kilometers. Or even staying at home, maybe flicking
through a book. Following the route traced by Steve McCurry,
extraordinary investigator of looks, faces, souls, witness of a present
which in no time has become past, and a world that is running
away, erasing traditions and cultures. Or even simple human
lives, with horrors that are fault of man or monstrous whims of
nature. "Beyond the Gaze" the McCurry exhibition at Cinecittà,
the Roman temple of Cinema, is a small masterpiece. The mounting
is fantastic, exciting, the audio guide highlights some of the most
significant photos, the videos where the photographer recounts his
experiences, suggesting and advising with the simplicity of a friendly
neighbor. He is, for those who do not remember, the photographer
of the Afghan girl with green eyes published in 1985 on the cover of
National Geographic who became the symbol of that country and
its torments. The exhibition is an event not to be missed, that until
September 30th, will be in Rome and then move to other cities. There
are faces - “I love portraits” said McCurry - places, moments, there
is the Southeast of the world, especially Southeast Asia that makes
it feel so near, there is India where he returned almost a hundred

Religiosissime e devote come si conviene alle siciliane per
bene, Linosa e Lampedusa, così come Pantelleria, sono da
sempre teatro dell’antica lotta fra bene e male, temuta e
vagheggiata al tempo stesso. Resta vivo il fascino misterioso e primordiale della taranta, la danza espiatoria delle
donne avvelenate dal morso di scorpione, che trasudano
umori demoniaci al ritmo forsennato dei tamburi. Insieme
a questa, convive l’usanza delle vampariate, falò accesi dai
giovani per festeggiare santi e patroni secondo allegorie
più demoniache che celestiali.

Passalacqua
I
l sentiero è appena visibile, graffiato sullo
specchio dell’acqua come un solco di
rugiada sulle foglie. Non sempre è possibile
scorgerlo, dipende dagli scherzi delle onde
che lo svelano a cadenza irregolare di qualche
anno. Quando affiora in superficie, incerto e
timidissimo, si ha timore di percorrerlo tanto
è sottile. E’ il cordone ombelicale impastato
di rena rossa e conchiglie che lega l’Isola dei
Conigli a Lampedusa, uno scintillio dorato di
30 metri gettato a ponte tra le due isole più
prossime alla tunisina Monastir che all’Italia.
A lambire l’arenile, tra baie e calette
rocciose, si spalanca il Mediterraneo dei
delfini e delle balenottere, in uno dei suoi
tratti più maestosi. Più giù nell’abisso, due
occhi dolcissimi vegliano sull’ombra delle
imbarcazioni spinte al largo per la pesca,
o in cerca di speranza. Appartengono alla
Madonna dei Fondali, fluttuante a 14 metri
di profondità sullo sfondo sommerso di
grotte spugnose, trasfigurato a riva nella
spiaggia di Cala Galera. Seguendo la corsa
dei piccoli di testuggine verso l’abbraccio
del mare, a risalire verso nord, lungo
le rotte dei sub, si scorgono i profili di
Linosa e Lampione, che insieme alla
sorella maggiore Lampedusa formano il
triangolo delle Pelagie. Le famose isole
d’alto mare, come le definirono i greci.
Una disabitata Lampione, minutissima
nei suoi 200 metri di lunghezza e 180
di larghezza, fa da satellite alla malizia
di Linosa, adagiata sulle acque color
cobalto nelle curve seducenti di baie
vulcaniche a sabbia scura. Questo
diamante schiuso fra i toni costieri del giallo
e del purpureo, meglio noto come perla nera
di Sicilia, disegna i contorni della Pozzolana,
una delle spiagge più suggestive al mondo,
eletta dal mito a dimora degli dei. E sempre
in tema di divinità, fu Venere ad appassionarsi
alla vicina Pantelleria, che reca impressa la
ferita delle sue grazie nella lacrima del Lago
Specchio. Il riflesso della sensualità venerea
ne sconvolse la natura, dando origine al
ribollire eterno delle acque sulfuree su letti
di fango. Un paradisiaco inferno, meta del
turismo termale a cinque stelle, che regala
pelli levigate e sguardo luminoso. I tratti di
Venere, appunto. Ancor oggi favare e fumarole
spalancano bocche di fumo nel terreno,
sospiri di fiamme che si fanno strada negli
abissi e rigano di passione, oltre che la terra,
il sangue stesso dei suoi abitanti. Sono queste
le Pelagie, giardini dell’Eden dalla storia
affascinante e complicata, colorata ad epoche
alterne dalle puntate di greci, turchi, arabi e
fenici. L’appeal diviene ancor più irresistibile
perché speziato degli influssi etnici della vicina
Africa, che si respirano nell’aria e prendono
vita con la passionalità degli isolani. Gente
solare, accogliente e sanguigna, che cucina i
sentimenti nelle contraddizioni di insalate
agrodolci all’arancia, cassate spumose e trionfi
di frutta candita, pesce marinato e arancini
croccanti. In questi luoghi l’amore ha il gusto
dolce dello zibibbo e la rabbia aggredisce il
palato con il sale dei capperi. Sapori forti e
decisi, aromi inebrianti e folklore di fiaba.
Tutto il necessario per smarrirsi al di là di se
stessi.

he path is just visible, scratched upon the surface of the water like a
furrow of dew on leaves. It is not always possible to see it, it depends
on the mood of the waves that reveal it at irregular intervals during
the years. When it does appear on the surface, uncertain and timid, one
is afraid to walk it as it is so thin. This is the umbilical cord of mixed red
sand and shells that links the Island of Rabbits to Lampedusa, a 30 meters
glint of gold sand forming a bridge between the two islands which are
closer to Tunisia Monastir than to Italy. Wetting the beach, through the
bays and rocky coves, the Mediterranean, that of dolphins and whales, in
one of its most majestic views. Further down in the abyss, two sweet eyes
keep watch on the shadow of the boats out for fishing, or in search of hope.
They belong to the Madonna dei Fondali, Our Lady of the Seabed, a statue fluctuating 14 meters in the deep in the background of submerged caves,
transfigured ashore on the beach of Cala Galera. Following the small
tortoise running toward the embrace of the sea, back to the north, along
the sub's routes, you can see the profiles of Linosa and Lampione, which
together with the bigger sister Lampedusa form the Pelagie triangle, the
famous islands of the high seas, as the Greeks called them. An inhabited
Lampione, minute in its 200 meters length and 180 width, is like a satellite for the malice of Linosa, nestled in the cobalt blue waters of bays with
seductive curves and dark volcanic sand. This diamond hatched between
the coastal shades of yellow and purple, better known as the Black Pearl of
Sicily, draws the outlines of Pozzolana, one of the most beautiful beaches
in the world, elected by myth and abode of the gods. On the subject of
deities, it was Venus to get passionate about the nearby Pantelleria, which

bears engraved the wound of her grace in the tears of Lake Mirror. The
reflection of her venereal sensuality flustered nature, giving rise to eternal
bubbling of the sulfurous waters on the beds of mud. A heavenly hell,
tourist destination with five stars spas, which gives skin a smooth and
bright look. The traits of Venus, in fact. Still today fumaroles are like open
mouths of smoke in the ground, breaths of fire that make their way into
the depths of the sea and give passion to not only the blood of the earth,
but also the blood of its inhabitants. These are the Pelagie, gardens of Eden
with a complex and fascinating history, coloured by eras of alternating
episodes of Greeks, Turks, Arabs and Phoenicians. The appeal becomes
even more compelling because influenced by the spicy neighboring Africa,
which can be breathed in the air and comes to life with the passion of the
islanders. Sunny, warm and passionate people, whom cook with their
feelings through salads with bittersweet orange, foamy cassate filled with
candied fruit, marinated fish and crunchy arancini. In these places love
has the sweet taste of raisins and anger attacks the palate through the salt
of capers. Strong and decisive flavors, intoxicating aromas and folklore of
fairy tales. Everything you need to lose yourself.
Between the sacred and the profane
Very religious and devout as is fit for the well to do sicilian girls, Linosa and Lampedusa, as well as Pantelleria,
have always been a theater for the ancient battle between
good and evil, feared and courted at the same time. Still

dance for women poisoned by the bite of a scorpion, that
exude demonic moods to the frenetic pace of the drums.

'è una terra nel mezzo del mare scuro come il
vino, Creta, fertile e bella...”. Così appariva,
nell'Odissea, la più maestosa delle isole greche,
la stessa che ospitò l'infanzia di Zeus sulle pendici
del monte Ida. E così appare oggi a chi la guarda,
magnifica e florida come nei versi di Omero. Molte
epoche sono trascorse e numerosi popoli l'hanno
abitata, alcuni lasciando tracce immortali, ancora
visibili a dispetto del tempo. Perla fiorente del commercio marittimo, centro di spicco del Mediterraneo Orientale, è stata preda di greci e bizantini, di
musulmani andalusi e di turchi ottomani, ceduta da
Marco Antonio all'amante Cleopatra e conquistata
dalla Serenissima durante le Crociate. Eppure è
impossibile nominare Creta senza evocarne il mito
più antico, quello di Dedalo e del suo labirinto, del
Minotauro che vi fu nascosto e del figlio Icaro che
osò volare. Leggende, naturalmente, che però celano frammenti di Storia, come i resti del Palazzo
di Knossos riportati alla luce dagli scavi di Arthur
Evans. Ma cosa ha da offrire la Creta odierna al
di là di un tuffo nel passato minoico? Tanto per
cominciare un paesaggio mozzafiato, che dalle
finissime spiagge del Nord si impenna tra folte
alture boscose, fino a scendere nelle scogliere
delle coste meridionali. Raggiungere i litorali a
volte è un'avventura. Come Balos dal mare cobalto, che si apre incantevole allo sguardo dopo
un percorso a piedi attraverso la montagna.
Qui nidificano i gabbiani e le onde brillano ai

raggi del sole nei toni dello smeraldo e del turchese.
Chi, al ritorno, ci lascerà il cuore potrà consolarsi con
Elafonissi, dalla sabbia bianca sfumata di rosa, o con
l'incredibile foresta di palme della spiaggia di Vai,
per poi cimentarsi con fare spavaldo nella discesa tra
le Gole di Samaria. Numerosi traghetti giornalieri
ampliano il raggio delle escursioni alle vicine isole
di Chrissi e Spinalonga. La prima vanta spiagge
caraibiche, circondate da cedri e acque cristalline, la
seconda una storica fortezza e l'inquietante soprannome di “isola dei morti viventi”, per i suoi trascorsi
da lebbrosario durante il periodo veneziano. Spingendosi oltre, alla volta dell'Est, ecco Rodi dalle molte
anime. Quella antica delle acropoli, come la bianca
Lindos che si affaccia sull'arcipelago da una rocca di
116 metri, o l'acropoli di Kamiros, costruita attorno al
Tempio di Atena. Quella medievale dei Cavalieri, con
i castelli trecenteschi e i cortili della Città Vecchia,
circondati da edifici perfettamente conservati. Quella
delle farfalle di Petaloudes, la “valle incantata” dove
esse si posano attratte dagli alberi di liquidambra, e
delle api del Bee Museum, con mille varianti di miele
squisito. Infine, l'anima notturna, che ha reso l'isola
la meta ideale per chi ama la musica e il pub crawl,
tra locali aperti fino al mattino e dj provenienti da
tutto il mondo. Ma, se immergendovi nella modernità, aveste nostalgia di un'atmosfera mitica, sappiate
che Rodi nacque dalla passione del dio Apollo per la
ninfa Rodha, figlia di Poseidone e della dea Afrodite.
Dunque dal Sole, dal Mare e dall'Amore.

Crete and Rhodes: Outside the labyrinth
Exploring these Greek islands is like going back
in history: an unforgettable adventure between
natural wonders and legendary places
“T
here is a land in the middle of the wine-dark sea, Crete, fertile
and beautiful ...”. It is described as such in the Odyssey, the most
wonderful of the Greek islands, the same that housed the childhood of Zeus on the slopes of Mount Ida. It is the same today for those
who see it, magnificent and flourishing as in the verses of Homer. Many
years have passed and many peoples have inhabited it, leaving immortal
traces, still visible in spite of time. A growing pearl in the sea trade, the
center of the Eastern Mediterranean, prey to Greeks and Byzantines,
Andalusian Muslims and the Ottoman Turks, given to Cleopatra by
her lover Mark Antony and conquered by the Serenissima during the
Crusades. Yet it is impossible to name Crete without mentioning its most
ancient myth, that of Daedalus and his labyrinth, of the Minotaur who
was hidden and of his son Icarus who dared to fly it. Legends, of course,
but with hidden fragments of history, like the remains of the Palace of
Knossos brought to light by the excavations of Arthur Evans. But what
does the Crete of today have to offer other than a journey in the Minoan
past? To begin with a breathtaking landscape, from the fine beaches of
the North that rear between thick woodland heights, down to the cliffs
of the southern coast. Reaching shorelines sometimes is an adventure.
Like Balos with its cobalt sea, which enchanting opens up to the gaze
after walking a path through the mountains. Here gulls nest and waves
shine in the sunlight with shades of emerald and turquoise. Who, upon

returning, will leave their heart can console themselves with Elafonissi,
with white sand tinged with pink, or with the incredible forest of palm
trees of Vai, to then courageously try the descent from the Samaria Gorge.
Numerous daily ferries expand the area of excursions to nearby islands
of Spinalonga and Chrissi. The first boasts Caribbean like beaches, surrounded by cedars and crystal clear waters, the second a historic fort and
the ominous nickname “Island of the Living Dead”, for its leprosy past
during the Venetian period. Going even further, this time to the East,
there is Rhodes of the many souls. The ancient Acropolis, as the white
Lindos which overlooks the archipelago from a rock of 116 meters, or the
acropolis of Kamiros, built around the Temple of Athena. There is the
medieval town of the Knights, with the fourteenth-century castles and
courtyards of the Old City, surrounded by perfectly preserved buildings . There is the Petaloudes of the Butterflies, the “Land Before Time”
where they rest attracted to liquidambra trees, and the bees of the Bee
Museum, with many variations of delicious honey. Finally, the night life,
which has made the island an ideal destination for those who love music
and pub crawls, places open until morning, with DJs from all over the
world. But, if immersed in modern times you have nostalgia for what is
mythical, let it be known that Rhodes was born from the passion of the
god Apollo for the nymph Rodha, daughter of Poseidon and the goddess
Aphrodite. So from the Sun, the Sea and Love.

Senna, Federer e Nadal. Sfide combattute senza esclusioni di colpi, che hanno
tenuto il mondo con il fiato sospeso fino
all’ultima, sofferta goccia di sudore. Ma in
un’ipotetica classifica degli avversari dal
sangue freddo, la medaglia va senz’altro
a Deep Blue. Progettato da IBM negli
anni ’90, il computer capace di calcolare
più di 200 milioni di mosse al secondo ha
sfidato il campione mondiale di scacchi
Garry Kasparov per due anni consecutivi,
riuscendo a batterlo nello storico match
del 1997. La partita fece molto discutere e
non solo per il risultato. Quell’11 maggio,
al torneo di New York, Garry Kasparov
non era “soltanto” lo scacchista prodigio
che accumulava vittorie fin dall’età di sei
anni e che nel 1984 aveva disputato con
Karpov un duello durato 5 mesi sospeso
per sfinimento dalla Federazione, quel
giorno, di fronte a una macchina da
milioni di dollari, c’era il rappresentante
dell’umanità, un insieme di emozioni
e neuroni che un circuito in silicio non
potrà mai eguagliare. I palpiti che induce
lo sport per la tensione e l’agonismo, e
che tanto ci appassionano nei tête-à-tête,
nel torneo contro Deep Blue scaturivano
da motivi opposti. Perché la sfida tra
uomo e macchina è un tema che affascina
la nostra cultura, destinato ad accompagnare ogni sviluppo in campo tecnologico:
e se l’opera dell’ingegno superasse, un
giorno, l’autore? Domanda lecita davanti
a un computer dalle mostruose capacità
di calcolo, aggiornato, dopo ogni partita,
per adattare lo stile di gioco alle mosse
dell’avversario. Ma se una macchina ha i
suoi vantaggi – primo tra tutti l’assenza di
pathos, di quello stress fisico e emotivo
che negli scacchi può essere fatale – le
mancano l’estro e la creatività che spesso
spiazzano formule e numeri. Ecco perché
Kasparov, durante il torneo, ha osato più
volte “aperture” inusuali, costringendo
Deep Blue a laboriosi ricalcoli. E perché
ha perso il controllo della scacchiera
davanti a una mossa del tutto imprevedibile, così eccentrica e raffinata da fargli
sorgere il dubbio di un irregolare intervento umano. La sconfitta del campione
ha sollevato congetture e polemiche ma,
nonostante la sua richiesta, IBM non ha
concesso rivincite. Quindici anni dopo,
però, uno dei programmatori ha rivelato
che la mossa fatidica era stata il frutto
di un bug nel software. Un paradosso
incredibile a dirsi: Deep Blue, la macchina infallibile, avrebbe vinto grazie a un
errore umano.

Deep Blue: A human computer, too human
T
here are rival couples who have
made history. Coppi and Bartali,
Prost and Senna, Federer and Nadal. Challenges fought with no holds,
that kept the world in suspense until the
last minute, in a painful sweat. But in
a hypothetical ranking of cold-blooded
opponents, the medal certainly goes to
Deep Blue. Designed by IBM in the 90s,
the computer that can calculate more
than 200 million moves per second challenged the world chess champion Garry
Kasparov for two consecutive years,
managing to beat him in the historic
match of 1997. The match was talked
about a lot and not only for the result.
On that 11th of May, at the tournament
in New York, Garry Kasparov was not
“only” the chess prodigy who accumulated victories since the age of six and
that in 1984 had played Karpov with
a duel that lasted five months and was
suspended for exhaustion by the Federation. On that day, in front of a machine
worth millions of dollars, he was the
representative of mankind, a together
of emotions and neurons that a silicon

circuit can never match. The raced
heartbeats induced by sport for tension
and agonism, and that we enjoy so much
in the tête-à-tête, in the tournament
against Deep Blue sprang from opposite

to raise the question of an irregular
human intervention. The defeat of the
champion raised speculation and controversy but, despite his request, IBM has
not granted a replay. Fifteen years later,
however, one of the programmers has revealed that fateful move was the result
of a bug in the software. An incredible
paradox: Deep Blue, the machine infallible, would win due to human error.

seguaci della moda, sempre aggiornati sulle ultimissime
tendenze, fatelo al più presto, perché la parola d'ordine nelle
collezioni di questi e dei prossimi mesi è una: hippie style.
Pantaloni a zampa d'elefante, crop top, camicie variopinte,
corone floreali sono in tutte le vetrine, da quelle dei grandi
atelier a quelle degli store low cost, fino - appunto - ai banchetti
dei mercatini delle pulci. Via i capi tinta unita e gli skinny
jeans che hanno spopolato negli ultimi anni; via anche le
pochette a busta e i tacchi alti, è ora di far esplodere i colori, le
fantasie, le geometrie, le forme e di riportare in vita da quelle
soffitte impolverate una moda comoda, naturale, rurale, un
po' ribelle, di certo eccentrica, ma allo stesso tempo semplice,

nella quale - inevitabilmente - i protagonisti sono due: frange e
fiori. Le prime, già a inizio 2015, sono tornate sulle teste (tagli
rigorosamente dritti e geometrici) e anche nel guardaroba. Sulle
gonne, sulle giacche, sui cardigan (anche in versione gilet) e sulle
borse, le frange rendono ogni capo cool, sbarazzino e giovanile.
E se vi aspettate le solite frange color pelle, vi stupirà trovarle
in ogni variante di colore e persino fantasia. Indispensabili
nell'armadio per essere glamour. I secondi sono ovunque.
Vestiti, scarpe e cappelli si rivestono di fiori grandi e piccoli, su
fondo nero, bianco o variopinto. Fiori naturali ed altri stilizzati,
fiori dipinti o anche applicati. Perché il floreale, c'è da dirlo,
ha un pregio: si adatta bene ad ogni stile ed età. La moda 2015,
dunque, non sfoggia nulla di nuovo, ma risveglia i look hippie
degli anni '70, un po' più glamour, ma senza troppe variazioni.

natural, rural, a little rebellious, certainly eccentric yet simple,
in which - inevitably – there are two winners: fringes and flowers. The first, as from early 2015, are back on the hair (strictly
straight and geometric cuts) and also in the wardrobe. On skirts,
jackets, cardigans (also gilet) and on bags, the fringes make each
piece cool, carefree and young. Don't expect the usual skin
color fringes, you will be amazed to find them in every color and
fantasy. A must have in the closet to be glamor. The seconds are
everywhere. Clothes, shoes and hats are covered with large and
small flowers, on black, white or colorful backgrounds. Natural
flowers and stylised flowers, painted or applied. Because flowers,
we must say, have an advantage: they fit well with every style and
age. Therefore, fashion 2015 does not offer anything new, but
brings back the hippie look of the '70s, with a bit more glamor,
but without too many variations.

n tempo era “solo” motocross: circuiti chiusi, sterrato e motociclette che differivano di poco da quelle utilizzate nei normali tracciati.
Il progresso della meccanica ha poi dato vita a moltissime specialità affini, tra le
quali la più spettacolare ed emozionante è senza dubbio il freestyle. Nate negli USA,
intorno alla metà degli anni ’90, come esibizioni di puro divertimento a margine delle
gare ufficiali, queste evoluzioni estreme hanno fatto il giro del mondo, diventando in
breve tempo una vera e propria disciplina riconosciuta, e uno degli sport più amati
dagli appassionati delle due ruote. Uno dei pionieri del freestyle motocross è di
sicuro Carey Hart, noto per i suoi enormi meriti sportivi, oltre che per la sua relazione
con la celebre cantante americana P!nk (Pink). Primo motociclista della storia ad
effettuare il backflip (salto mortale all’indietro) durante i Gravity Games del 2000, Hart ha
dato il suo nome anche a un trick, il coreografico “Hart attack”, che si esegue puntando le
gambe in aria verso l’alto, con una mano aggrappata alla sella e l’altra che tiene saldamente
il manubrio. Nonostante il motocross sia legato inevitabilmente all’America e a piloti
leggendari come Hart, questo sport estremo ha attraversato l’Oceano arrivando fino a noi,
in Italia, dove esiste già da tempo una rappresentanza di freestyler abili e vincenti. Uno su
tutti: Massimo Bianconcini. Reduce dai successi ottenuti in alcune delle più importanti
competizioni di action sport, come il Nights of Jump e
gli X Games, il rider della DC Italy si è imposto già da
alcuni anni grazie al suo stile unico e alle sue enormi
doti tecniche. Il pilota bolognese è stato in grado di
compiere acrobazie mozzafiato, che l’ hanno fatto volare
dalla rampa fino a otto metri di altezza. Divisi in crew,
come accade nel mondo dell’hip-hop, i riders si nutrono
dell’adrenalina che suscita questa disciplina: estrema e rischiosa, ma al contempo affascinante e divertente. Un mix di stupore e timore che fa rimanere il pubblico inchiodato agli
spalti con il fiato sospeso e con il naso all’insù a godere dello spettacolo di uno sport che
sfida la gravità. E se pensate che i piloti non abbiano paura, vi sorprenderà scoprire che
nemmeno loro ne sono immuni, come ha rivelato lo stesso Bianconcini: «Il giorno che non
avrò più paura vuol dire che qualcosa sarà cambiato e che sarà meglio smettere. La paura ci
vuole sempre, per essere concentrati al 100%».

while ago it was “only” motocross: closed circuits, off track and motorcycles that
only slightly differed from those used on normal roads.
Mechanical progress has since given life to many related specialties, of which
the most spectacular and exciting is undoubtedly the freestyle.
Born in the USA in the mid 90s as performances of pure fun on the sidelines of official races, these extreme evolutions have been around the world, soon becoming a
real recognised discipline, and one of the most popular sports for two wheel lovers.
One of the pioneers of freestyle motocross is without doubt Carey Hart, known
for his huge sporting merits, as well as for his decade-long relationship with the
famous American singer P!Nk (Pink). He was the first motorcyclist in history
to perform the backflip during the Gravity Games in 2000, Hart has given his
name to a trick, the choreographic “Hart attack”, which is done by pointing legs in
the air towards the sky, with one hand on the saddle and the other securely holding
the handlebars. Despite motocross being inevitably tied to America and legendary
drivers such as Hart, this extreme sport has crossed the ocean all the way to us, in
Italy, where there has long been a representation of able and successful freestylers.
One above all: Massimo Bianconcini. After the success achieved in some of the
most important competitions of action sports such as Nights of Jump and the X
Games, the rider of DC Italy has been known for several years due to his unique
style and enormous technical skills. The rider from Bologna was able to accomplish
breathtaking stunts, that made him fly off the ramp up to eight meter high.
Divided in crews, as in the world of hip-hop, riders feed on adrenaline that comes
from this sport: extreme and dangerous, but at the same time fascinating and fun.
A mix of awe and fear that keeps the public nailed to the sidelines, holding their
breath, looking up and to enjoy the show of a sport that defies gravity.
If you think that the drivers are not afraid, it will surprise you to learn that they
are also not immune to fear, as revealed by the same Bianconcini: «The day I will
no longer be afraid will mean something has changed and it will be better to stop.
Fear must always be there in order to be 100% focused».

il modello 675LT. La supercar che celebra la storica
impresa della 24 ore di Le Mans

artenza alle ore 16.00 e taglio del traguardo alla stessa
ora del giorno seguente. Ventiquattro ore sull’asfalto,
13 chilometri di circuito nei pressi del fiume Sarthe.
Un viaggio adrenalinico, ad altissimo livello di tensione, in
cui a vincere è chi riesce a dominare l’incredibile turbinio di
emozioni che una competizione lunga ed estenuante comporta,
dall’incontenibile entusiasmo al profondo sconforto. Ogni
pilota, all’interno del minuscolo abitacolo dell’auto da corsa, è
consapevole di prendere parte ad una sfida che non è solo contro
gli avversari, ma anche con se stesso. Stiamo parlando della gara
delle gare: la 24 ore di Le Mans. Una corsa insidiosa e affascinante,
che viene raccontata con estremo realismo anche da Steve
McQueen, protagonista tormentato del film-documentario Le
Mans. Nei suoi quasi novant’anni di vita, questa competizione
è stata costellata da cocenti sconfitte, ma anche da gloriose vittorie, come quella di McLaren, che pur non detenendo il record
di trionfi – posseduto da Audi e Porsche – si è resa protagonista
di una gara che ha fatto la storia. Nel 1995, infatti, la scuderia

inglese è riuscita a piazzare, al primo tentativo e con vetture
stradali lievemente adattate alla corsa, cinque macchine nei
primi cinque posti della classifica. Un risultato sorprendente,
che non ha lasciato McLaren crogiolarsi nelle vittorie, ma anzi
l’ha spinta ad alzare l’asticella, rendendo le auto ancora più
competitive. Dall’ambizioso progetto è nata la F1 GTR Long
Tail, la coda lunga, chiamata così per il suo particolare alettone
allungato, che conferiva alla vettura un carico aerodinamico
senza precedenti. Oggi, a distanza di vent’anni da quell’impresa
storica, al Salone di Ginevra è stata presentata la McLaren 675
Long Tail, questa volta un’auto da strada, che si ispira nel nome
e nel design al modello degli anni ‘90. Carrozzeria nostalgica,
telaio e interni in fibra di carbonio e un motore V8 biturbo
rinnovato da 666 cavalli, sono le caratteristiche di questa Super
Series, che si presenta al mondo come la più potente, leggera e
veloce mai realizzata dalla casa di Woking. Sul mercato ne verranno distribuiti solamente 500 esemplari, veri e propri pezzi
per intenditori e collezionisti.

day. Twenty-four hours on the road, a 13 km circuit near the River
Sarthe. An adrenalin pumped trip, very high levels of tension, in which
the winner is he who can dominate the incredible whirlwind of emotions
brought on by a competition that is long and exhausting, from uncontainable
enthusiasm to deep despair. Every pilot, inside the tiny race car, is aware of
taking part in a challenge that is not only against opponents, but also with
oneself. We are talking about the race of races: the 24 Hours of Le Mans. An
insidious and charming race, which is also told with great realism from Steve
McQueen, the tormented protagonist of the documentary film Le Mans.
During nearly ninety years of his life this competition has been punctuated by
bitter defeats, but also glorious victories, like that of McLaren, who despite
not having the record of triumphs owned by Audi and Porsche, has become the
protagonist of a race that made history. In 1995, in fact, the English team was
able to place on first attempt five road cars, slightly adapted for tracing, in the
top five of the rankings. A wonderful result, which did not leave McLaren to
bask in victory, but to raise the bar instead, making the cars even more competitive. From the ambitious project came the F1 GTR Long Tail, named as
such for its distinctive elongated spoiler, which gave the car an unprecedented
aerodynamic down-force. Today, twenty years on from that historical achievement, the McLaren 675 Long Tail is presented at the Geneva Motor Show.
This time a road car, which is inspired both by name and by design from the
90s model. A nostalgic body, chassis and interior in carbon fiber and a V8
biturbo motor renovated by 666 horses are the features of this Super Series,
which presents itself to the world as the most powerful, lightest and fastest
model ever made from the home of Woking. Only 500 will be distributed on
the market, real pieces for connoisseurs and collectors.

Immaginateli abbandonare la campagna e dirigersi a
bordo di una berlina verso una metropoli multicolore,
dopo aver lanciato dal finestrino banjo e strumenti
acustici. Non c’è altro modo per descrivere questo Wilder
Mind, terzo album della band britannica Mumford &
Sons. Una svolta decisa rispetto al folk revival che ce li ha
fatti conoscere: i quattro musicisti inglesi abbracciano a
pieno la vena rock che sempre ha pulsato nei loro brani,
elettrificando le chitarre, picchiando sulle pelli e programmando sintetizzatori. Anche la voce distintiva di Marcus
si fa meno ruvida, per diventare più controllata e intima,
come appare ben chiaro dal brano di apertura Tompkins
Square Park, che parte con un ritmo di batteria così dritto,
secco e non-Mumford da farci controllare di non aver
sbagliato disco nello stereo. Ma la carica galoppante dei
Mumford & Sons è sempre lì, pronta a cantare di amori
sfumati, come moderni trobadour.
Se gli Oasis potevano forse dirsi i vincitori, in quanto a
fama e vendite, della battaglia del brit-pop, i Blur avevano
già dalla loro quella capacità di esplorare, reinventare e
sezionare il loro stesso sound che non è mai stata propria
della band di Noel Gallagher. Ora i Blur possono anche
vantare una maggiore longevità: The Magic Whip è,
dopo 12 anni di assenza, l’ottavo album di inediti della
band britannica guidata dal frontman Damon Albarn.
L’immaginario asiatico – l’album nasce ad Honk Kong,
in una serata di noia dopo un live annullato – trionfa in
copertina e si fa sentire anche nei testi. Lonesome Street
apre l’album nella maniera più Blur possibile: basta il riff
iniziale per farci gridare «sono tornati!». Pezzi come Going Out e Ong ong sono proprio su questa scia classica, ma
in The Magic Whip troviamo anche derive elettroniche e
oniriche, come I Thought I Was A Spaceman. ispirazione
da vendere o, in una parola, Blur.
Un annunciato ritorno al rock dei primi album, senza
dimenticarsi delle derive sinfoniche-dub-pop di The 2nd
Law: è di nuovo chitarra-basso-batteria, ma trattandosi
di Muse, rimane un trittico barocco, pomposo e sopra le
righe. Questo Drones vede il frontman della band britannica calarsi sempre più in testi e tematiche geopolitiche
e globali, da teorie del complotto a distopie letterarie. Un
concept album che si apre con Dead Inside, dove le grida in
falsetto si mescolano agli acuti di chitarra, e sfocia subito
in Psycho, singolo che gioca su un riff conosciuto fatto di
groove e falsetti, servendo su un piatto d’argento un chiaro
rimando a Full Metal Jacket. L’immagine del soldato subisce un’escalation continua di canzone in canzone, fino al
pezzo di chiusura Drones, che la band spiega così: «È il viaggio di un uomo, dalla perdita di speranza all’abbandono,
dall’indottrinamento alla perdità di identità, arrivando,
finalmente, alla ribellione».
Un racconto, in musica e in immagini, dell’ultimo tour
mondiale di chi di tour ne ha fatti tanti e di mondi ne
ha visti di diversi. Italia, Americhe, Australia: tre dischi
e trentasei pezzi per dipingere il viaggio di Ligabue
per tre continenti. Trentaquattro sono registrati dal
vivo, tante cartoline da altrettanti palchi mondiali: una
selezione prettamente rock, con il pubblico di Pescara
a cantare Il Sale della Terra e quello di Los Angeles
Vivo morto o X, mentre Certe notti è un mix di tutte
le registrazioni dal vivo. Quattro gli inediti, in parte
scritti on the road, a definire apertura, intermezzi e
chiusura dell’album. Due di questi – I campi in aprile,
Non ho che te – si scontrano per tematiche con lo spirito
internazionale e spensierato dell’album, risaltando, per
questo, ancor di più: la storia di un partigiano e la storia
delle crisi moderne, chi lotta per difendere un’ideale e
chi fatica a trovarne.
Imagine them leaving the countryside and head aboard a sedan
towards a multicolored metropolis, after having thrown out of
the window banjo and acoustic instruments. There is no other
way to describe Wilder Mind, the third album of the British
band Mumford & Sons. A decisive change compared to the
folk revival that has made them known to us: the four English
musicians fully embrace the rock vein which has always pulsed
in their tracks, electrifying guitars, banging on the drums and
synthesizer programming. Even the distinctive voice of Marcus
becomes less rough, this time more controlled and intimate, as is
clear from the opening track Tompkins Square Park, which
starts with a drum beat so obvious, dry and not so Mumford to
make us check we haven’t put the wrong disk in stereo. But the
galloping charge of Mumford & Sons is always there, ready to
sing of faded love as modern trobadour.
If Oasis could call themselves the winners of the Battle of
brit-pop in terms of reputation and sales, Blur had already
from them the ability to explore, re-invent and select their own
sound which was never an ability of Noel Gallagher's band.
Blur can now also boast greater longevity: The Magic Whip
is, after 12 years of absence, the eighth album of the British
band led by front man Damon Albarn. The imagery of Asia,
the album was born in Hong Kong on an evening of boredom
after a canceled live concert, triumphs on the cover and is also
felt in the lyrics. Lonesome Street opens the album in a most
appropriate Blur style: all you need is the opening riff to make
you cry «They are back!». Tracks like Going Out and Ong
ong are right on this classic path, but in The Magic Whip
we also find electronic and dreamlike drifts, as I Thought I
Was A Spaceman. Inspiration for sales or maybe just Blur.
An announced return to rock like in the first album, not
forgetting the symphonic-dub-pop of the 2nd Law: It is again
guitar-bass-drums, but as this is Muse, there is always a triptych
baroque, pompous and over the top. Drones sees the front
man of the British band immerse more and more in lyrics and
themes of geopolitical and global issues, from conspiracy theories
to literary dystopias. A concept album that opens with Dead
Inside, where the shouts in falsetto mix with sharp guitar, and
flows quickly to Psycho, a single that plays a well known riff
made of groove and falsetto, serving on a silver platter a clear
idea of Full Metal Jacket. The image of a soldier undergoes
continuously from song to song, until the closing track Drones,
the band explains: «It's the journey of a man, from loss of hope to
abandonment, from loss of indoctrination to identity loss, arriving, finally, to rebellion».
A story, in music and in pictures, the last world tour of the group
who have done many tours and have seen different worlds. Italy,
America, Australia: three discs and thirty-six pieces to depict the
journey of Ligabue over three continents. Thirty-four are recorded
live, many postcards from world stages: a selection purely of rock,
with the Pescara audience singing Il Sale della Terra (The Salt
of the Earth) and the Los Angeles public singing Vivo morto
o X (Alive, dead or X), while Certe notti (Some nights) is a
mix of all live recordings. Four unpublished pieces, partly written
on the road, to define the opening and closing of the album. Two
of these - I campi in aprile, (Fields in April) and Non ho che
te (I have only you) - collide themes with an international spirit
in a carefree album, emphasizing, because of this, even more: the
story of a partisan and the history of modern crisis, those who fight
to defend an ideal and those who struggle to find one.

John Connor, leader della resistenza umana,
spedisce il sergente Kyle Reese indietro nel
tempo, precisamente nel 1984, per vivere una
serie di eventi già preordinati e già visti nel
primo film, in particolare il salvataggio di Sarah
Connor e la salvaguardia del futuro. Ma tutto
quello che il pubblico conosce è stato stravolto
da una circostanza inaspettata, che crea una
frattura nella linea temporale, modificando gli
eventi. Il sergente Reese, infatti, si troverà in
una nuova e sconosciuta versione del passato, con
improbabili alleati, tra cui il Guardiano, nuovi
pericolosi nemici, e una missione inaspettata:
la realizzazione di un futuro diverso. Questa
volta l’iconico cyborg ha un aspetto più maturo.
È ancora un Terminator con un endoscheletro
metallico, ma la sua carne è invecchiata nel corso
degli anni trascorsi a proteggere Sarah Connor,
da quando era una bambina. Il rivestimento
esterno del Terminator, infatti, non è composto
da materiale sintetico ma da tessuto vivente.
Stupisce come un film horror possa incutere, oltre che terrore e angoscia, un profondo senso di
disagio misto a sentimentalismo. Amelia è una
donna solitaria rimasta vedova poco prima di dare
alla luce il figlio Sam. Il bambino inizia a tenere un
comportamento irregolare: ha problemi di insonnia, di socializzazione con i coetanei e si preoccupa di un mostro immaginario, costruendo perfino armi per combatterlo. Una notte Sam chiede
a sua madre di leggere per lui un misterioso libro
di fiabe che trova in casa, il cui protagonista è Mr.
Babadook, un malvagio essere soprannaturale.
Amelia è disturbata dal contenuto del libro, mentre Sam, traumatizzato, si convince che Babadook
li stia perseguitando. A causa di strani eventi che
iniziano a verificarsi in tutta la casa, la madre finisce per credere alla versione del figlio. Finale a
sorpresa e fotografia noir rendono il film particolarmente originale e forse unico nel suo genere.

Surprising how a horror movie can inspire, as well as
terror and anguish, a deep sense of unease mixed with
sentimentality. Amelia is a lone woman, widowed
shortly before giving birth to her son Sam. The child begins to behave strangely: he has trouble sleeping, socialising with peers and worries about an imaginary monster,
even building weapons to fight it. One night Sam asks
his mother to read him a mysterious story book that he
found in the house, whose main character is Mr. Babadook, an evil supernatural being. Amelia is disturbed
by the content of the book, while Sam, traumatised, is
convinced that Babadook is persecuting them. Because
of strange events that begin to occur around the home,
the mother starts to believe the child. A surprise ending
and noir photography make the film very original and
perhaps unique to its genre.

IL PASSEGGERO
Per proteggervi contro la nuova minaccia derivante dagli esplosivi liquidi, l’Unione
Europea ha adottato nuove regole di sicurezza che limitano le quantità di liquidi
che possono essere introdotti nelle aree sterili. Tali regole si applicano nei confronti
tutti i passeggeri in partenza dagli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea verso qualsiasi
destinazione.
Ciò significa che ai controlli di sicurezza, il passeggero e il relativo bagaglio a mano
devono essere controllati per verificare la presenza di liquidi. Comunque, le nuove
regole non limitano la quantità di liquidi che possono essere acquistati presso gli
esercizi commerciali situati oltre il punto di controllo del titolo di viaggio od a bordo
di un aeromobile di compagnia appartenente all’Unione Europea.
Le nuove regole si applicano a partire da lunedì 6 novembre 2006, in tutti gli aeroporti dell’Unione Europea, in Norvegia, Islanda e Svizzera a meno di eventuali
modifiche.
A SHORT GUIDE TO HELP YOU
To protect you against the new threat of liquid explosives, the European Union
(EU) introduced new security rules to limit the amount of liquids that you can take
through security checkpoints. They apply to all passengers departing from EU airports to all destinations.
This means that, at security checkpoints, you and your hand luggage must be
inspected for liquids screening in addition to other prohibited articles. However,
the new rules do not limit the liquids that you can buy at shops located beyond
the checkpoints.
The new rules are in force as to Monday 6th November 2006 at all airports in the
EU and in Norway, Iceland, Switzerland until further notice.

Jet Lag
Il vostro “orologio biologico” può a volte non gradire i cambi di fuso legati
al viaggio aereo: senso di affaticamento, difficoltà a prendere sonno e riduzione dell’appetito sono tra i sintomi più comuni. Per minimizzare l’impatto
di tale fenomeno, si consiglia di dormire bene la notte prima del volo e di
mantenere le proprie “lancette biologiche” sull’orario di casa se la permanenza nel luogo di destinazione non dovesse superare i due giorni. In caso
di una permanenza più prolungata, è opportuno adeguarsi il prima possibile
all’orario locale e attenersi a regole di vita salutari, tenendo presente che il
recupero degli effetti “jet lag” è generalmente più rapido se si viaggia con
direzione ovest e più lento con direzione est.
Sometimes you “biological clock” may not welcome the time changes involved in air travel and it finds ways of letting you know about this. Some
of the most common symptoms are a sense of weariness, difficulty in falling
asleep at night and appetite loss. To minimize jet lag effects, make sure
you get a good night sleep before leaving and, if you plan to stay abroad
less than two days, keep you biological clock set on your home time (i.e.
keep your regular eating and sleeping habits). In the event of a longer trip,
it is advisable to get used to local time as soon as possible and to conduct
a regular and healthy life. Remember that getting over jet lag is generally
quicker when travelling westwards than eastwards.

To help you feel better when you fly with us, just follow these
tips and suggestions designed to enhance your well being on
board
Stare a lungo seduti in una stessa posizione può farvi sentire a
disagio sull’aereo. Sgranchitevi gambe e braccia ogni due ore
circa. Alzatevi di tanto in tanto e camminate su e giù per il corridoio oppure fate i semplici esercizi* di stretching illustrati per
prevenire problemi circolatori.
Prolonged sitting in a fixed position can make you feel uncomfortable in the plane. Every few hours, stretch your arms and legs
or carry out some easy exercises* suggested below.
Consumate pasti leggeri, mangiate con moderazione e limitare
bevande gassate, tè e caffè.
Eat a light meal and moderate you intake of fizzy drinks, tea and
coffee.
Bevete molta acqua naturale, meglio se in piccole quantità e
spesso.
Drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
Moderate il consumo di bevande alcoliche, poiché queste sono
assorbite più facilmente dal corpo ad alta quota a causa della
bassa pressione dell’aria all’interno della cabina.
Moderate your intake of alcohol.

Start the exercise by sitting in comfortably in your seat in an upright position.

Poggiate entrambi i piedi sul pavimento. Flettete i piedi puntando i talloni in su e poi in giù. Ripetete per cinque volte.
Rest both feet on the floor. Flex both feet with toes pointing
upward, then point your toes downward Perform this exercise
five times.

Sollevate dolcemente il ginocchio verso il busto per alcuni secondi, poi lasciatelo andare, poggiando nuovamente il piede
sul pavimento. Fate lo stesso con l’altra gamba. Ripetete cinque
volte per gamba.
Raise you knee gently towards the chest for a few seconds and
then release, placing your feet back on the floor. Continue with
the other leg. Repeat five times for each leg.
