NOT JUST A SOUNDSCAPE
Can music shape a landscape?
The trio New Landscapes leaves this question open, relying on the publicís
awareness, to choose a repertoire capable of shaping and designing a series of
sound and emotional images that constantly evolve.
It is a recent phenomenon where concert festivals are organized in places and
at unusual times. In this context the environmental component is very strong in
the execution, and the musician is called to "play the environment." And
recently, the theme of soundscape has taken center stage in Italy.
It is interesting to note that in ethno-musical, historical documents, sounds and
noises of everyday infiltrate the music. It is a sort of fusion of background noise,
soundscape and musical object. The music appears to be in a relationship of
osmosis with the environment that created and shaped it over time.
NEW LANDSCAPES
The Trio was founded because of a need of exploring the expressive
possibilities of a chamber ensemble in which instruments and musicians from
different backgrounds coexist. Baroque and contemporary music, improvisation,
and original compositions of the trio musicians become possible variations of a
single way of conceiving music: the search for a sound and a balanced and
evocative gesture.
Three musicians, whose curiosity is probably the main characteristic, come from
rich and varied experiences: from ancient music to jazz, from traditional music
to contemporary sounds. But is not the "contamination" at the heart of the Trio,
rather the natural quest for playing together, looking for the common traits of
an universal language.
It has been recognized through the
centuries in the tradition of song and
instrumental composition, that a kind
of cross-over genre is achieved with
the simplicity and clarity of musical
and textual ideas. Every era gives us
songs and melodies suggestive of
their disarming simplicity.
There is something that unifies and
approximates that effect of the vocal
and musical worlds of artists who
have lived in different centuries and
latitudes. And their musical
production ends up placed in the
same kind of aesthetic horizon: one
of timelessness.

LUCA CHIAVINATO
He started his studies with classical guitar, developing a strong tendency
to play multiple instruments. He devoted himself to the lute and plucked
instruments of the European tradition between '500 and' 700 (Renaissance lute,
Baroque lute, theorbo, vihuela, colascione) and then plucked string instruments
from outside Europe, including Persian oud and setar.
Over the years he has performed concerts especially as a baroque lute soloist.
After studying ancient music for a long period of time, (and musicology as well),
he began working on transcripts, both ancient and contemporary music.
He has developed a deep interest in the Arab-Andalusian music by studying the
oud as an improviser and composer, and directs projects of fusion between
classical, ethnic repertoire and jazz, with Silvia Rinaldi (Duo Rinaldi-Chiavinato)
and Francesco Ganassin (Duo Nafés).
He has played as a soloist in major
concert halls and universities, in Italy
and abroad. In 2009, in collaboration
with the prestigious Japanese
production IMC Publisher, Luca was on
tour in Tokyo and performs at the
theater Bunka Shutter.
In Thailand he has played at
Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok at
the Italian embassy, and at the
Assumption University.
He has given concerts in France for the
University of Strasbourg and Nancy, in
Hungary for the University of Music in
Debrecen, in Poland at the Theatre
Ludowy Krakow and Warsaw University
and Opole.
In Italy he also performs in many cities
including Venice, Rome, Florence,
Genoa, Bologna within festivals.
As a continuo player, he plays with
various chamber ensembles and
orchestras including Vvox Ensemble,
founded by the singer Vivica Genaux,
Modo Antiquo, directed by Sardelli,
Oficina Musicum and Novart Baroque
Ensemble. He also plays as a soloist
with the Siam Symphony Orchestra of
Bangkok conducted by Somtow
Sucharitkul.
He has always dedicated with passion to teaching, through master classes,
lecture-concerts and conferences, often carried out in conjunction with
concerts, giving courses in Tokyo, Bangkok, Krakow, Strasbourg, Nancy, Debrecen
and in Italy.
As a musician in the theater world, he has played in numerous productions of
shows in Italy and abroad. He worked with the Associazione Professionalità
dello Spettacolo Bel Teatro of Padova, writing the music for many shows for 15
years. He appears as a musician in the film by Lasse Hallstrom's "Casanova".
He edited for IMC Publisher in Tokyo, inside the DVD collection "Renaissance
and Baroque", the section dedicated to the solo repertoire and the chamber
music for lute, playing music for Renaissance lute, vihuela, archlute, theorbo and
baroque lute.
Francesco Ganassin
Clarinetist, composer and multiinstrumentalist, he has been active for
over twenty years in the music extracultured, in particular the ethnic music,
jazz, the improvisation in its various
aspects.
Since 2003 Francesco has played,
arranged and composed as a musician
of Calicanto, a leading group on the
European scene of ethnic music. With
Calicanto he has the opportunity to
work with many of the leading players
(Jan Mari Carlotti, Milladoiro,
Interensemble, Laura Curino, Marcello
Chiarenza, Ermanno Cavazzoni,
Biennale Theatro, etc.) giving concerts
in the most important European
festivals (Kaustinen Music Festival,
Festival Interceltico Moana, Segovia
Folk, Tradicionarius Barcelona, Fira
Mediterrania de Manresa, Notte della
Taranta, Trad.It! Groningen, Mandopolis,
etc).
The work of Calicanto has been
awarded on several occasions. It should
be mentioned the Prix Coup de coeur at
'Isole senza mar', was reported in 2005
from the Academie Charles Cros of
Paris as one of the four best albums of
world music on the world stage.
In 2009 he was one of three Italian musicians of the project Hattusha. The
multiannual workshop, focused on the Turkish-Hittite music and of the
Mediterranean area, moves from the initiative of the Middle East Technical
University (Ankara) and of Corum Hittite University, with the support of a dozen
academic institutions across Europe and culminates with a tour through Europe.
In 2010 he played and composed for S-Confini Mediterranei. The project, a rare
experience in Italy, combines folk and symphonic music. Music from the
tradition and by R. Tombesi, Ganassin F., G. Baldi, are performed by Calicanto and
by Orchestra Filarmonia Veneta.
Since 2011 he has been the director and arranger of the Orchestra Popolare
delle Dolomite, the project originated with the discovery of an ancient
manuscript in the Dolomite area, which led to the publication of the book
"Ballabili antichi per violino o mandolino" (R. Tombesi, F . Ganassin, T. Luison).
He is founder and co-leader of many ensembles active in the jazz and avantgarde, in particular Rituali (with S. Battaglia, A.Lamacchia and A. Ruggeri) Minim
(with Fabrizio Saiu), Radici (with F. Saiu and C. Liuzzi), with whom he records and
