FOREWORD
Postage stamps and postal documents tell our story and the examples gathered in the present catalogue
follow the history of Italy starting from Ancient states, passing through the Kingdom, and then arriving at
the Republic.
Several postage stamps, single, in strips and blocks, unused and cancelled; and then letters, covers, letter
fronts, newspapers, fragments, wrappers, letter jackets, circular letters.
It is a selection of 97 prestigious items, more or less rare, some of them unique or known in a few
examples, uncommon combinations of franking, departure, destination and cancellation, some pieces
more and more difficult to find, some bargains hardly repeatable.
Really unusual items, the result of nice findings during the years thanks to study and research, many of
them not on the market for some time, some of them presented in the philately and postal history
magazine “Vaccari Magazine” or in Vaccari catalogue, at national and international exhibitions, to enrich
one’s own collections or just to possess a small part of Italy.
All the items are reproduced, most of them real size, and some postage stamps have been enlarged in
order to bring details out.
Descriptions, effected with the greatest care and clarity, both in Italian and English, stress their good
points but also possible defects.
Besides expertise signatures and/or certificates, any example is accompanied by Vaccari expertise and
