Chambers of Commerce, national
and international institutions and

it acts as a network in delineating
common orientations, in promoting
and achieving joint initiatives and
supporting the activities carried
out by the system of Chambers and
its organizations. To such end, it
provides, manages and promotes
services and activities of interest for
the Chambers of Commerce and the
various trades.
Unioncamere promotes and
coordinates the implementation of
guidelines, programs, plans and the
use of EU funds by the Chambers
in agreement with the various
trade sectors, with the purpose
of developing the local economic
systems. It acts both as a contact for
the European Commission and other
EU institutions, and as a promoter of
their initiatives.
The Chambers of Commerce are
independent institutions, as they
have statutory powers. Hence, each
Chamber of Commerce is enabled to
devise its own orientations according
to strategic priorities and initiatives
approved by the institutions
representing the various players
operating in a given area.
The 105 Chambers of Commerce
in Italy have enforced such
independence through an
interconnection strategy by
developing links with each other
and with other structures created
for institutional purposes. This
strategy, which has been in place for
several years now, has resulted in the
development of a network based
not only on technological systems,
but also on common organizational
and cultural values, allowing for the
sharing of development strategies,
projects, initiatives and services.
