NOVEMBER 20, 2011 SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING

Cari amici in Cristo,
There is much to address this week. First, I am pleased
to inform you that Bishop Murphy has approved the renovation of the parish center. This project entails the refurbishing of the floors, walls and ceilings of the four classrooms, the hallways, the bathrooms, the parish office and
the pastor’s office. The generous bequest of Mary and
Frank Spano has made this project possible. The work
begins in the coming weeks.
On Saturday evening, we welcome my confrere, the
Very Reverend Dom Maximilian Heffron, parochial vicar
in our St. Leopold’s Catholic Church in Donaufeld, Vienna. Father Maximilian holds a Mass of Thanksgiving
(Nachprimiz) for his priestly ordination, and he and the
other canons will join us for Reverse Raffle Dinner. Father Maximilian hails from Maryland, where his family
still lives. He will offer another Mass of Thanksgiving at
Saint Patrick on Sunday. I hope that our two other newly
ordained priests, Father Alipius and Father Benedict, will
be able to celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving with us in
the new year.
On next Saturday, November 26th, Advent begins. The
Advent Wreath will be blessed at the Mass at 4 p.m, and
we also worship God, for the first time, with the new,
corrected English translation. This is, therefore, a momentous day in the history of the Church in America because we embark on a new path as English-speaking
Catholics. In time, a new translation in Italian will be
used. I thank all of you in advance for your patience and
cooperation in the period of transition, and renew my
gratitude for Father Daniel’s excellent three-part course
on the new translation, which concludes on Monday, November 28th.
Also, we congratulate Msgr. Peter Vaccari on his appointment as the Rector of St. Joseph’s Seminary in Dunwoodie, New York. We can be confident that he will
carry out this important new task with the same excellence and distinction that he has show in his years of service at St. Rocco.
Finally, I wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. Father
Daniel has given me permission to spend Thanksgiving
with my family in Virginia. It will be my first Thanksgiving in ten years at home. I will be away from Tuesday
morning until Saturday afternoon. This means that the
Bible Study will next meet on Tuesday, November 29th.
Ci sono molte cose da fare questa settimana. Primo,
sono molto contento di informarvi che Mons. Murphy ha
approvato il rinnovamento del centro parrocchiale. Questo
progetto prevede la ristrutturazione dei pavimenti, pareti e
soffitti delle quattro aule, i corridoi, i bagni, l'ufficio
parrocchiale e l'ufficio del pastore. Il generoso lascito di
Maria e Frank Spano ha reso possibile questo progetto. Il
lavoro inizia nelle prossime settimane.
Sabato sera, accogliamo il mio confratello, il
Reverendissimo Don Massimiliano Heffron, il vicario
parrocchiale nella parocchia di San Leopoldo in
Donaufeld, Vienna. Padre Massimiliano ha una Messa di
ringraziamento (Nachprimiz) per la sua ordinazione
sacerdotale, e lui e gli altri canonici si uniranno a noi per
la cena che avremo per il Reverse Raffle. Padre
Massimiliano proviene da Maryland, dove la sua famiglia
abita ancora. Egli offrirà un'altra Messa di ringraziamento
a San Patrizio di Domenica. Spero che i nostri due altri
sacerdoti neo-ordinati, Padre Alipius e Padre Benedetto,
potranno celebrare Messe di ringraziamento con noi nel
nuovo anno.
Sabato prossimo, 26 Novembre, l'Avvento comincia.
La corona di Avvento sarà benedetto durante la Messa alle
4 del pomeriggio, e noi adoriamo anche Dio, per la prima
volta, con la nuova, corretta traduzione in inglese. Questo
è, dunque, un giorno memorabile nella storia della Chiesa
in America perché prenderemo un nuovo percorso come
cattolici di lingua Inglese. Nel tempo, una nuova
traduzione in lingua Italiana verrà utilizzato. Vi Ringrazio
in anticipo per la vostra pazienza e collaborazione nel
periodo di transizione, e rinnovo la mia gratitudine per il
corso eccellente che Padre Daniel dà sulla nuova
traduzione, che conclude Lunedì, 28 Novembre.
Inoltre, auguriamo Mons. Peter Vaccari per la sua
nomina a nuovo Rettore del Seminario di St. Joseph a
Dunwoodie, New York. Si può essere sicuro che svolgerà
questo compito importante con la stessa eccellenza e
distinzione che ha dimostrato nei suoi anni di servizio a
San Rocco.
Infine, vi auguro un Buon Thanksgiving. Padre Daniel
mi ha dato il permesso di passare Thanksgiving con la mia
famiglia in Virginia. Sarà il mio primo Thanksgiving in
dieci anni a casa. Sarò via dalla mattina di Martedì fino al
pomeriggio di Sabato. Ciò significa che lo studio della
Bibbia si riunirà il prossimo Martedì, 29 Novembre.
