. :h.e lare per decenni con droga e criminaÌi, queste comunità pre>ri.laìno ora un nuovo volto. NaturaÌmente non ci troviamo in para':.-,. ma lo scenario è mutato drasticamente. La üoÌenza c'è ancora.
-':'.:. il rúsura minore, e questo fatto incoraggia governo, imprenditori,
''..rgner"i. architetti e altri professionisti a ediflcare in questi quartieri
.- . ' er'ì ristoranti, hoteÌ, centri d'arte e funivie di quaÌità. Ciò si traduce
rì.Ìo\-!ô opportunità d'impiego per i residenti, in un posto migÌiore in
.., .,ir-ere, con una migliore quaÌità delÌa vita e una conseguente mag-
- -.r,r'e autostima. Nonostante la persistente povertà, i Ìuoghi appaiono
. ,.Ìignitosi e valorizzati da progetti edilizi ideati da lÌlustri architetti
r':'.srhani. ÌÌ cuore deÌ processo di pacificazione è rappresentato dalle
de Policia Paciflcadora (UPP). Si tratta di unità delÌa Secre.:.r',ir Estadual de Segurança Publica, edifi.cate all'interno dei quartieri

: :,ioperano per garantlre sicurezza ai residenti. La prima UPP è stata
