Queen Choral Festival and Competition
The International Choral Festival Queen of the Adriatic Sea is a competitive event that
takes place in Cattolica and in some wonderful places in the Romagna Region. The festival
in Cattolica is part of the Rimini International Choral Competition, a competitive festival
which takes place the last week of September of every year and this year will be the 10th
edition!
The festival programme includes the Competition at the magnificent Cattolica Queen’s
Theatre (Teatro della Regina) and a concert at the historic Cathedral of St. Leo, as well as
a common service to be sung in a Catholic Church. Choirs do not only come for the concerts
but also for the opportunity to stay on the Adriatic Coast, in particular on the beach of
Cattolica, renowned throughout the world for its fine sand and for the quality of its waters
that has made it possible, for the seventeenth time, the assignment of the ‘blue flag‘.
The variety of places selected for the performances, the numerous events and the extremely
rich repertoire make this Festival not only one of the most spectacular international choral
festivals but also a unique opportunity of mutual and fruitful exchange among different
musical cultures.

Il Festival Internazionale di Canto Corale Queen of the Adriatic Sea è una manifestazione
competitiva che si svolge a Cattolica ed in alcuni magnifici luoghi dell’entroterra
romagnolo. Il Festival è parte del Rimini International Choral Competition, festival
competitivo che si tiene a fine Settembre di ogni anno, nel 2016 per la decima volta!
Il programma del Festival prevede il Concorso presso il magnifico Teatro della
Regina di Cattolica, un concerto presso lo storico Duomo di San Leo, nonché una
Messa comune per i cori da cantarsi presso una chiesa di Cattolica o di Rimini. Ai
concerti che si svolgono in questi luoghi si affianca la possibilità di soggiorno presso
la Riviera Adriatica, in particolare sulla spiaggia di Cattolica, rinomata in tutto
il mondo per la finezza della sua sabbia e per la qualità delle sue acque che ne
hanno decretato, per la diciassettesima volta, l’assegnazione della ‘bandiera blu’.
La varietà dei luoghi delle esibizioni, oltre a quella degli eventi proposti, e il vastissimo
repertorio presentato pongono il Festival non solo come una delle più spettacolari
manifestazioni internazionali della coralità ma anche come irripetibile momento
d’incontro di diverse culture musicali.

Il Teatro della Regina
Inaugurato il 14 gennaio 1996 con un concerto del soprano Katia Ricciarelli, il Teatro della
Regina è il primo teatro-teatro progettato e costruito ex novo in Italia nel dopoguerra.
Realizzato in tempi da record, solo nove anni, il nuovo teatro di Cattolica si offre come
simbolo dell’impegno che la città riserva alla cultura come strumento di crescita civile.
La pianta del teatro ripropone lo schema classico a ferro di cavallo, tipica dei teatri detti
all’italiana. I due ordini di palchi, coronati da un capiente loggione, da considerarsi in
realtà come un terzo ordine di palchi, abbracciano la platea fasciata di legni biondi, il
cui impiego rende l’acustica semplicemente perfetta. L’architetto Pier Luigi Cervellati ha
saputo coniugare con estrema eleganza e modernità lo schema base del teatro all’italiana
con la funzionalità e la versatilità richiesta ad una moderna macchina per spettacoli.
Il teatro dispone di 700 posti, altri 200 sono ricavati nel lussuoso ridotto sottostante,
sede di incontri e convegni. Il palcoscenico, largo 12 metri e profondo 10, è dotato di un
golfo mistico capace di ospitare orchestre fino a 50 elementi. La particolarità del golfo è
quella di essere mobile e di poter essere elevato al livello del palcoscenico aumentandone
notevolmente la superficie. Arredi, tende e poltrone, di un bel colore smeraldo, sono
firmate in esclusiva dalla prestigiosa ditta Frau.

The Queen’s Theatre
Opened in January 1996 with a concert by soprano Katia Ricciarelli, the Queen’s Theatre
is the first theatre designed and built from scratch in Italy after the war. Built in record
time, only nine years, the new theatre is a symbol of the engagement that the city reserves
to culture as a tool for civil growth.
The plan of the theatre is the classic horseshoe-shaped, typical in Italian theatres. The two
orders of theatre boxes, crowned by a large gallery, to be considered in fact as a third row
of boxes, embrace the audience with blond wood that makes the sound just perfect. The
architect Pier Luigi Cervellati has combined the basic scheme of Italian theatres with the
functionality and versatility of a ‘modern show car’ with extreme elegance and modernity.
The theatre has 700 seats and another 200 for meetings and conferences, placed in the
luxurious lobby below the main site. The stage is 12 meters wide and 10 deep and can has
room for orchestras with up to 50 members . The particularity of the orchestral pit is that
it is mobile and can be elevated to the level of the stage, greatly increasing the surface.
Furniture, curtains and sofas are all in a beautiful emerald colour, designed exclusively by
the prestigious firm Frau.

La Cattedrale di San Leo
Situata al limite della rupe, la cattedrale di San Leone fu iniziata nel 1173 ad opera di
maestranze romaniche guidate da architetti emiliano-lombardi nel corso del Duecento
con aggiunte gotiche. L’ingresso, come nella vicina Pieve, non è in facciata ma su un fianco,
sormontato dai busti di San Leone e di San Valentino.
Sia l’esterno che l’interno sono in pietra arenaria concia e levigata, l’insieme, sia all’interno
che all’esterno è semplice ed austero. L’unico elemento decorativo sono i bei capitelli, in
parte di spoglio, corinzi del III sec d.C. e in parte romanici, di cui i più antichi rappresentano
i simboli del cristianesimo primitivo; anche le colonne sono di spoglio.
La pianta della chiesa è a croce latina, affiancata da due navate minori divise in quattro
campate; il transetto porta all’alto presbiterio tri-absidato, innalzato su un’ampia cripta a
sua volta suddivisa in cinque navatelle. Nell’abside della cripta era collocato il sarcofago
con le spoglie di San Leone, oggi però se ne conserva solo il coperchio con l’iscrizione,
datato al VI secolo. 6
The San Leo Cathedral
The construction of the Cathedral of San Leone began in 1173 on the edge of the cliff.
Different Emilian-Lombard architects guided the work over the course of the 13th century
creating a masterpiece in a majestic Romanesque style with Gothic additions. The
entrance, like in the nearby Parish Church, is not in the front but on the side, overhung by
busts of San Leone and San Valentino.
Both the exterior and interior are in smooth, tan sandstone which gives it a simple and
austere expression. The only decorative element are the beautiful capitals, partially reused Corinthian from the 3rd century A.D. and partially Romanesque, of which the oldest
represent primitive Christian symbols. The pillars are also antique and re-used in this
medieval church.
The layout of the church is the Latin-cross, with two minor naves to the sides divided in
four spans; the transept leads to the high tri-apse presbytery, risen over a large vaulted
crypt subdivided into five little naves. In the apse of the crypt they kept the sarcophagus
with the remains of San Leone; today, however, all that is left is the lid with an inscription,
dating back to the 6th century. 7

Kaikukuoro (in English it means “Echo choir”) is a mixed choir from Oulu, Finland.
Kaikukuoro sings a cappella songs and the repertoire consists of modern choral
music and pop classics arranged for SATB voices. Kaikukuoro was founded in 2009
and the singers have a background from the student choir of Oulu University called
Cassiopeia. The choral director for Kaikukuoro is Ilkka Eskelinen and he was also
choral director for Cassiopeia during the years 1994-2004. Kaikukuoro has weekly
rehearsals and concerts and smaller performances several times a year in the Oulu
area. Pop Choir Festival Berlin in 2014 was the first foreign choral festival this
choir participated in and Queen of the Adriatic Sea Choral Festival and Competition
will be the second one.
Kaikukuoro (Coro Eco) è un coro misto proveniente da Oulo, Finlandia.
Kaikukuoro canta brani a cappella e il repertorio consiste in brani di musica corale
moderna e pop con arrangiamenti per quattro voci (soprani, contralti, tenori
e bassi). Il coro è stato fondato nel 2009 e i cantanti provengono dal coro degli
studenti dell’Università di Oulu, chiamato Cassiopeia. Il direttore del Kaikukuoro è
Ilkka Eskelinen che è stato anche direttore del coro Cassiopeia dal 1994 al 2004. Il
Kaikukuoro effettua settimanalmente le prove e si esibisce in concerti e differenti
performances, diverse volte all’anno, nella città e nei dintorni di Oulu. Nel 2014 ha
partecipato per la prima volta ad un festival all’estero e precisamente al Pop Choir
Festival di Berlino e la partecipazione al Queen of the Adriatic Sea, sarà la seconda
esperienza all’estero

The Maastricht University Choir was founded in 1977 and counts approximately
90 members forming a diverse and international group consisting of students,
non-students andacademics. We currently have singers from 15 countries. Since
1995, the choir has been under the direction of Wim Vluggen. We sing and perform
a broad repertoire from classical and contemporary to folkloric and modern music.
We also try to find pieces that are not (yet) well known. Recent major projects
were The Armed Man by Karl Jenkins and Mozart’s Requiem. At the same time we
do not only enjoy singing together but are also proud of our strong group spirit.
Due to the international composition of our choir, we are an open-minded and
sociable group. It is not only singing that connects us but also out-of-rehearsal
activities. We enjoy bringing the music to the people in informal events such as
singing for charity or Christmas caroling. Every other year we go on a choir trip
to meet other choirs and perform abroad, however this year, we would like to try
something entirely new: An international choir competition.
Il Coro dell’Università di Maastricht, Olanda, è stato fondato nel 1977 e conta
approssimativamente 90 membri che costituiscono un gruppo internazionale
di studenti, non studenti e accademici. I coristi provengono, attualmente, da 15
Paesi. Dal 1995 il coro è sotto la direzione di Wim Vluggen. Il repertorio del coro è
costituito da brani classici e contemporanei, da pezzi folk e da musica moderna. Il
coro, inoltre, esegue brani che non sono ancora molto conosciuti. Recentemente, i
maggiori progetti sono stati The Armed Man di Karl Jenkins e il Requiem di Mozart.
Allo stesso tempo, il coro non ama solo cantare insieme, ma è orgoglioso del forte
spirito di gruppo. Grazie alla sua composizione internazionale, il coro è un gruppo
aperto e socievole. Non è solo il fatto di cantare insieme che unisce i cantori, ma
anche altre attività che si svolgono al di fuori. Al coro piace portare la musica alla
gente, in eventi informali, come il cantare per beneficenza o eseguire i carols
di Natale. Ogni anno il coro organizza un viaggio, per incontrare altri gruppi ed
esibirsi all’estero: tuttavia questo è il primo concorso internazionale a cui il coro
partecipa.

Male Voices of the Boys Choir Lucerne is a part of Boys Choir Lucerne and all
members (age 12-16) live in and around Lucerne. The choir has along-standing
collaboration with the “21st Century Orchestra” and has participated in the famous
performances of the “Lord of theRings” trilogy in the renowned KKL Lucerne (live
music to film). In addition, the choir’s repertoire encompasses several high-level
programs covering a wide variety of styles, such as a contemporary rendition
of Swiss folk songs, a selection of Classical compositions or liturgical music.
The professed goal is to provide a fun environment in which boys are exposed
to meticulous training in a playful way. Most boys enter the choir at the age of
seven. After their change of voice, the majority stays affiliated with the BCL and
participates in special projects. Every boy has lessons in voice training (individual
or group). Every two years, the choir enters a competition. In 2014,the BCL won
first prize in the choir competition in Neerpelt, Belgium. The choir is rehearsed
and conducted by Andreas Wiedmer.
Le Voci Maschili del Coro Dei Ragazzi di Lucerna, Svizzera, (età da 12 a 16 anni)
sono parte integrante del Coro dei Ragazzi di Lucerna. Il coro ha una collaborazione
attiva con l’Orchestra del 21° Secolo ed ha partecipato alle famose esecuzioni della
trilogia del Signore degli Anelli, al Centro di Cultura e Congressi di Lucerna. Inoltre
il repertorio del coro comprende diversi programmi di alto livello che riguardano
una grande varietà di stili, come anche una una interpretazione di brani di musica
folk Svizzera, una selezione di composizioni classiche o di musica liturgica.
L’obiettivo principale è quello di fornire un ambiente divertente in cui i ragazzi
sono preparati con una formazione meticolosa in modo giocoso. Molti ragazzi
entrano nel coro all’età di 7 anni. Dopo il cambio della voce, la maggior parte entra
nel coro giovanile e partecipa a progetti speciali. Ogni ragazzo segue lezioni vocali,
sia individuali che collettive. Ogni due anni il coro partecipa ad un concorso. Nel
2014 il Coro dei Ragazzi di Lucerna ha vinto il primo premio al Concorso Corale di
Neerpelt, in Belgio. Il coro è preparato e diretto da Andreas Wiedmer.

Stockholm University Choir was founded in 1994 in collaboration with the Royal
College of Music in Stockholm. In 2006 the choir was reconstructed to improve the
musical quality and become independent from the university.
The choir still performs at ceremonial occasions at Stockholm University but we
have our own concerts as well. We aim to spread joy with our music and we value
high musical quality as well as great stage presence.
Il Coro dell’Università di Stoccolma è stato fondato nel 1994 in collaborazione
con il Conservatorio di Musica di Stoccolma. Nel 2006 il coro è stato ricostituito per
migliorare la qualità vocale ediventare indipendente dall’Università.
Il coro ancora si esibisce in occasione di cerimonie pressol’Università di Stoccolma
ma esegue anche propri concerti. Il nostro obiettivo è diffondere gioia conla nostra
musica che valutiamo di alta qualità musicale e grande presenza scenica.

The Academic choir of Moscow State University of Printing Arts named
after Ivan Fedorov starts its history with the year 2011 when the founder
and conductor of the choir – Natalya Chumakova, Schnittke college and MSUPA
graduate – brought together its members out from the students and graduates of
various MSUPA faculties. Since 2012 the Choir organizes a Chorus Assembly on
the basis of MSUPA, gathering the best amateur choruses from Moscow and its
surroundings. In 2013, the Choir participated in the International Choir Festival
“Paparats Kvetka” in Minsk, Belarus. The choir was awarded with two diplomas: for
the best solo singer and for participation in the event. In 2014, the Academic Choir
took part in the World Choir Games in Riga, Latvia. The choir was awarded with
the silver fifth grade diploma. In 2015, the Academic Choir participated in the VI
International festival-contest of professional and amateur choirs “Crystal Chapel.”
The Choir won the third place among the chamber choirs in the competition for
the best performance of spiritual music.
Il Coro Accademico dell’Università Statale delle Arti Grafiche di Mosca,
intitolato a Ivan Fedorov inizia la sua storia nel 2011 quando il fondatore e direttore
Natalya Chumakova, diplomata al Schnittke college e al MSUPA riunì i suoi membri
selezionati tra gli studenti e i diplomati di diverse facoltà MSUPA. Dal 2012 il coro
organizza festival corali al MSUPA, radunando i migliori cori amatoriali di Mosca e
dei suoi dintorni. Nel 2013, il coro ha partecipato al festival corale internazionale
“Paparats Kvetka” a Minsk, Bielorussia. Il coro è stato premiato con due diplomi:
il miglior cantante solista e per la partecipazione all’evento. Nel 2014, il Coro
Accademico ha preso parte ai World Choral Games a Riga, Lettonia dove è stato
premiato con un diploma d’argento di quinto grado. Nel 2015, il Coro Accademico
ha partecipato alla sesta edizione del festival internazionale di cori professionisti
e amatoriali “Crystal Chapel” dove ha ottenuto il terzo posto tra i cori da camera
nella competizione per la miglior esecuzione di musica sacra.

FMV Işık schools are primarily academic schools and music is a part of the academic
curriculum. We have been singing A Capella and songs accompanied by musical
instruments with our school’s choir since 2001. Rehearsals take place in choir
club hours which is limited to only two hours a week and before the festivals and

FMV Işık schools are primarily academic schools and music is a part of the academic
curriculum. We have been singing A Capella and songs accompanied by musical
instruments with our school’s choir since 2001. Rehearsals take place in choir
club hours which is limited to only two hours a week and before the festivals and

The Polyphonic Children’s Choir Coeli Lilia comes from Campobasso in Italy. It was
founded in 1998 and since then directed by its founder Prof. Giovanna Consiglio.
The choir participates in choir competitions with the precise aim to help the young
singers improve as artists through meeting and confronting themselves with other
choirs. For this reason the choir received 1st price in numerous school competitions.
After these encouraging results the choir decided to participate in more prestigious
choral events and has obtained: 1st price and the Feniarco price in Malcesine, Vittori
Veneto and Verona (Italy), for two consecutive years 1st price and a scholarship in the
choral competition “Schuster” in Chieti, Salerno (Italy), 2nd price for polyphonic choral
music ‘Guido D’Arezzo’ in Tours (France), Treviso, ‘Riva del Garda’, Gorizia, Venice and
Lodi (Italy). They have taken part in cultural exchanges and concert tours in northern
Europe and it is a member of FE.N.I.A.R.CO (the Italian national choir organization)
in order to be more integrated in their own territory. The choir Coeli Lilia has taken
part in several opera performances: Tosca, Carmen, la Bohéme and Turandot and they
performed in Milano during EXPO 2015.
Il Coro Polifonico di Voci Bianche Coeli Lilia proviene da Campobasso, Italia. Nato
nel 1998 e diretto fin dalla sua fondazione dalla Professoressa Giovanna Consiglio, il
coro intraprende la partecipazione a Concorsi Corali con il preciso obiettivo di mirare
alla crescita artistica dei giovani coristi attraverso l’incontro/confronto con altre realtà
corali. In tal senso riceve il 1° Premio in numerose competizione scolastiche. Dopo
queste incoraggianti affermazioni il coro decide di calcare palcoscenici di maggiore
prestigio ed ottiene: 1° Premio e Premio FENIARCO a Malcesine; Vittorio Veneto;
Verona; 1° Premio e Borsa di studio Concorso Corale “Schuster” (due anni consecutivi);
Chieti; Salerno; 2° Premio Polifonico “Guido D’Arezzo”; Tours (Francia); Treviso;
“Riva del Garda”; Gorizia; Venezia; Lodi. Ha realizzato scambi culturali e tournée
concertistica nel Nord Europa. E’ iscritto alla FENIARCO per una maggiore integrazione
nel territorio, ha realizzato opere liriche come Tosca, Carmen, Bohème, Turandot e si è
esibito all’EXPO di Milano nel 2015.

Andrea Angelini - Artistic Director - Italy
Born in Bologna, Italy, Andrea Angelini began his piano
studies as a child, at the Rimini Lettimi School. He later earned
a Doctorate of Music at Ferrara’s Frescobaldi Conservatory. His
interests led him to the choral field, and he earned a Bachelor
studying Liturgical Music at Modena and at the International
Art Academy in Rome with Fulvio Angius. He also studied organ
at Pesaro’s Conservatory of Music. Finally he got his PHD in
Choral Music at the Cesena Conservatoire of Music. He is the
Artistic Director and Conductor of the professional group Musica
Ficta Vocal Ensemble that frequently performs in important
Festivals in Italy and abroad. For many years, Andrea Angelini
has conducted concerts with the choir Carla Amori, in Italy and
abroad. He has also conducted the Lithuanian ‘Jauna Muzika
Choir’, the ‘Belarusian State Choir’, the Latvian ‘Ave Sol’ and the
‘Tudor Consort’ from New Zealand. He is the Artistic Director
and member of the Jury of the international organ competition,
Marcello Galanti. He has been member of the Jury at many
International Choir’s Competitions in Italy, Europe and Asia. He
frequently leads choral workshops in Italy and abroad. Recently his Masterclass about the “Venetian Renaissance
choral music” has been presented to the students of the prestigious Liszt Music Academy of Budapest and in
Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) for the Young Choral Academy. He is the artistic director and one of the tutors at the
Rimini International Choral Workshop, where he teaches with Peter Phillips of the Tallis Scholars. Mr. Angelini
is also the artistic director of the ‘Rimini International Choral Competition’ and of the ‘Liviu Borlan Choral
Competition’ (Romania). His professional memberships include the Artistic Committee of AERCO (Regional
Association of Choirs) of which he is the president and ACDA (American Choral Directors Association). He is a
regular reviewer for the press. He is the Chief Editor of the International Choral Bulletin (ICB), the membership
magazine of the IFCM (International Federation for Choral Music). He has written numerous transcriptions
and arrangements for choirs and chamber ensembles. His transcription of Faure’s Requiem is published by
Gelber Hund Verlag of Berlin, who are also publishers of a book of repertoire for organ and violin, edited by Mr.
Angelini. For the American CanticaNOVA Publication, he has prepared transcriptions of important Renaissance
Motets. He has published his composition with Eurarte and Ferrimontana.
Andrea Angelini ha iniziato presto lo studio del Pianoforte presso il Liceo Musicale Lettimi di Rimini per
diplomarsi poi presso il Conservatorio “Frescobaldi” di Ferrara. Ha studiato anche organo sostenendo gli
esami al Conservatorio di Pesaro. Dedicatosi contemporaneamente all’attività corale compie studi di Direzione
all’Accademia Internazionale delle Arti di Roma ove si diploma con il M° Fulvio Angius. Si è perfezionato in
questa disciplina con Giovanni Acciai e con Peter Phillips dei “Tallis Scholar” all’International School of Oakham
(Inghilterra). Ha conseguito il diploma in Direzione di Coro al Conservatorio di Cesena. E’ direttore del Coro
Polifonico “Carla Amori” di Rimini e dell’Ensemble professionale “Musica Ficta” con i quali ha diretto concerti
in Italia e all’estero. Ha collaborato, come direttore ospite, con il Coro “Jauna Muzika” a Vilnius, con il Coro “Ave
Sol” a Riga, con il “Belarus State Choir” e con il Coro Neozelandese “The Tudor Consort”. E’ ideatore, Direttore
Artistico e membro della Giuria del Concorso Organistico Internazionale “Marcello Galanti” di Mondaino. E’
stato membro della giuria di numerosi Concorsi Internazionali Corali e di Organo. E’ spesso chiamato a tenere
corsi di musica corale antica presso prestigiose istituzioni estere. E’ direttore artistico e docente dei Corsi
Internazionali per direttori di Coro organizzati dall’Associazione Musicale “Musica Ficta” ove insegna con Peter
Phillips (The Tallis Scholars). Ha pubblicato trascrizioni per le Case Editoriali Gelber-Hund e Canticanova. Sue
composizioni sono pubblicate da Ferrimonatana ed Eurarte. E’ direttore responsabile di ICB, la Rivista Corale

Sergey Yekimov (1974) – composer, conductor, member of the Russian
Composers Union and the Union of Concert Figures of St. Petersburg,
art director of the International Choral Art Festival «The Singing
World», art director and conductor of the Women’s Choir at the ChoirConducting Department of the St. Petersburg N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov
Music College, professor, head of the Academic Choir at the faculty of
the St. Petersburg Culture and Arts University and professor of the St.
Petersburg State N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire, Laureate of
the St. Petersburg Government in the field of art and culture. Sergey
Yekimov is the graduate of the St. Petersburg State N. A. RimskyKorsakov Conservatoire, where he studied choir conducting (professor
F. Kozlov) and composition (professor Yu. Falik). Yekimov completed
his post- graduate studies in 2011 in the class of professor V. Uspensky.
During the period of 1993-2009 S. Yekimov directed the St. Petersburg
Youth Choir. Among his compositions there are choral and orchestral
ones, instrumental and vocal ensembles, ecclesiastic and secular
music a cappella, vocal cycles, piano and choral pieces for children,
music to performances, choral arrangements of Russian folk songs,
popular melodies, romances and variety music. Yakimov’s opuses and
transcriptions enjoyed popularity via Russia and all over the world: Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus,
Poland, Hungary, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, USA and Japan. Leading Russian choirs
include by radio and TV, published in Russia and aboard. Choir music of the 20th-21st centuries was not once
the topic of his master-classes. He was also the participant and chairman of the jury at different choral festivals
and contests.

John August Pamintuan - Member of the Jury - Philippines
John August Pamintuan is a renowned Philippine
conductor, composer, singer, leader of master-classes,
and adjudicator. Since 2007, John is recognized by the
American Federation of Musicians as an artist of sustained
international acclaim, and since 2012 has been a member
of the World Choir Games Council.
As a conductor he has given workshops, performed in
concerts, and won in competitions in Asia, Europe, and
North America. As a singer, he has sung in solo recitals
at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, and Moscow Glinka
Hall. As a composer, John was awarded the composition
prize in Tours (France), Tokyo (Japan) and has written
commissioned works for the governments of Singapore,
Malaysia, Taiwan, Japan, Lithuania, and the Philippines.
He has composed around 500 pieces which have been
performed by choirs from 30 countries.
In the last couple of years, John has been invited in the jury of international choir competitions in Vietnam,
Cincinnati, Rimini Italy, Singapore, Malaysia, Hong-Kong, Riga Latvia, and the cities of Takarazuka, Hyogo, and
Karuizawa in Japan. He is also a member of the panel of adjudicators for composition contests in Croatia (2011,
2012, 2014), International Federation for Choral Music (2013), and Karuizawa Japan (2015, 2016).

Fabio Pecci - Member of the Jury - Italy
Fabio Pecci studied violoncello at Ravenna’s officially
recognized “G. Verdi” Music School graduating with brilliant
results. As a cellist his busy concert activity has led him to
perform in theatres and concert halls in Italy and abroad. He has
been awarded prizes in many competitions and has recorded
seven CDs for Tactus, Bongiovanni and other labels. He founded
and directs “Le Allegre Note” treble voice choir and “Note in
Crescendo” youth choir, with which he has also performed in
prestigious theatres. With these two choirs he has over 400
performances, audio and television recordings to his credit.
With them he also recorded three albums which include his
own choral arrangements. With Note in Crescendo he has held
concerts in Berlin, Saint Etienne (Lyon) and in Czech Republic.
With Le Allegre Note he also took part in the production of ‘Te
Deum’ by H. Berlioz, held in Bologna in October 2008, under
the direction of Claudio Abbado, and was responsible for the preparation of the treble voices in Puccini’s ‘La
Bohème’. Treble voice trainer and chorus master for the production of ‘Tosca’ staged for the 2010 New Year in
Rimini, he was responsible for the treble voices in the production of Bizet’s ‘Carmen’ in many theatres, as well
as for ‘Carmina Burana’ by C. Orff, with the soloists of the Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome. An enthusiast of
children’s vocalism, he also directs the activity of Rimini’s “Piccole Voci di Carla Amori” and “Una Canzone per
Crescere” at Valconca Comprehensive School. As choir director, he has received awards and gained recognition
in National and International Competitions. Since 2013 he has been a member of the Artistic Committee of
A.E.R.CO – The Regional Choirs Association. As conductor of the youth choir “Note In Crescendo” he represented
the Emilia Romagna region at the Choral festival ‘EXPO Milano 2015’.
Fabio Pecci si diploma in violoncello presso l’Istituto Pareggiato G. Verdi di Ravenna. Come strumentista ha
al suo attivo oltre 600 concerti in Italia, Francia, Svizzera, Svezia, Portogallo. Ha inciso sette CD per Tactus,
VideoRadio, Malleus, Bongiovanni. Premiato in vari concorsi (Stresa, Moncalieri, Genova), attualmente si dedica
prevalentemente alla direzione corale di bambini e ragazzi. Ha inciso tre CD come direttore dei cori Note in
Crescendo e Le Allegre Note di Riccione, contenenti anche sue elaborazioni corali. Dirige il coro giovanile Note In
Crescendo e i cori a voci bianche Le Allegre Note (Riccione), Una Canzone per Crescere (Morciano di Romagna),
Piccole Voci di Carla Amori (Rimini). Ha curato la preparazione delle voci bianche per il ‘Te Deum’ di H. Berlioz
(Bologna 2008 – Direttore Claudio Abbado), ‘La Bohème’ (Teatro della Regina di Cattolica e Teatro Borgatti
Cento), ‘Tosca’ (Rimini 2010), ‘Carmen’ (Stagione Lirica del Teatro Regina di Cattolica, Rimini Capodanno 2011
e Teatro dell’Opera Giocosa – Savona Fortezza del Priamàr, estate 2011), ‘Focolare Invernale’ di S. Prokofiev,
‘Carmina Burana’ con i Percussionisti dell’Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Roma e vari cori lirici. Ha ricevuto
tre primi premi assoluti in Concorsi Corali Nazionali a Faenza (RA) e Treviso, oltre a numerosi altri premi e
riconoscimenti. Docente per le tematiche relative alle voci bianche per il Corso di Direzione Corale di A.E.R.CO,
dal 2013 è membro della Commissione Artistica di A.E.R.CO.; è attualmente Presidente dell’Associazione di
Pedagogia Musicale e Musicoterapia ‘Papageno’. E’ stato designato a rappresentare le regione Emilia Romagna
nella rassegna di cori giovanili di EXPO Milano 2015.

Ilario Muro - Member of the Jury - Italy
Ilario Muro, was born in Vercelli where he studied at the Viotti
School of Music. His introduction to singing came at the age
of six, when he joined the treble voice choir at San Cristoforo
church, Vercelli, under the guidance of the Dominican friars.
He was a pupil of the late musician and composer Father
Dante Destefanis. He subsequently joined the San Cristoforo
polyphonic choir, becoming Choir-Master at the age of just
eighteen. He moved to Rimini in 1988 and became Director of
the Youth Choir founded three years previously, in 1985, at the
parish church of Gesù Nostra Riconciliazione; the choir later
took the name Jubilate Deo.
Mr Muro attended courses held by Marco Gemmani, by
Giovanni Acciai and courses in Gregorian Chant and Semeiotics
held by Professors Oscar Chiodini and Massimo Pacifero at the
Santa Cecilia Diocesan School of Music, Rimini. Mr Muro has
also taken part in each of the annual Rimini International Choral Workshops for choristers and choir directors,
held by Andrea Angelini and by Peter Phillips, Director of the Tallis Scholars. With the Jubilate Deo Choir, Mr
Muro performs almost exclusively sacred music, specialising in Renaissance polyphonic music. Over the years
he has directed the choir in numerous concerts and liturgical celebrations in Rimini and in many other cities in
Italy, including St Peter’s Basilica and Santa Susanna church, Rome; Milan Cathedral; Basilica of San Francesco,
Assisi and many others. He has taken part in international events including the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Rome
in the Jubilee year 2000 where the Jubilate Deo Choir formed part of the Diocesan Choir which sang Mass in St
Peter’s Square.
Ilario Muro, è nato a Vercelli dove ha seguito i corsi del Liceo Musicale Viotti. E’ stato allievo di Don Dante
Destefanis. Passato al coro polifonico fondato nel frattempo sempre in San Cristoforo, ne divenne il direttore
a soli diciotto anni. Dal 1988 si è trasferito a Rimini ed ha ottenuto la direzione del Coro Gruppo Giovani già
fondato nel 1985 presso la Parrocchia della Riconciliazione, che in seguito ha assunto il nome di Jubilate Deo.
Ha seguito corsi con Marco Gemmani, Giovanni Acciai. Ha anche partecipato a tute le edizioni del Rimini
International Choral Workshop per direttori di coro e coristi, tenuto da Andrea Angelini e da Peter Phillips,
direttore dei Tallis Scholars. Con il Coro Jubilate Deo si occupa quasi esclusivamente di musica sacra, in
particolare di polifonia rinascimentale, e in questi anni ha effettuato concerti e celebrazioni liturgiche a Rimini,
e nelle principali città italiane, tra le quali spiccano Roma (S.Pietro, S. Susanna), Milano (Duomo), Assisi (Basilica
di S. Francesco), e tante altre, partecipando ad alcune rassegne internazionali e ad eventi come il Pellegrinaggio
Giubilare del 2000 in qualità di coro della diocesi di Rimini (Messa in Piazza San Pietro).

Mstyslav Yurchenko - Member of the Jury - Ukraine
Mstyslav Yurchenko was born 1951 in Kyiv. He is a
musicologist, expert of Ukrainian liturgical music, professor of
choral conducting at Kyiv National Institute of Culture and Art.
After graduating in choral conducting from the Tchaikovsky
State Conservatory in Kyiv, he worked as a conductor of
numerous choirs (professional, amateur, church, educational),
as a singer, and as a producer for music programming at the
State Radio Company (he recorded 100 audio recordings to
the Ukrainian radio fund, issued two СDs). Since the 1970s,
prof. Yurchenko has taught choral conducting at various
universities in Ukraine, as well as the history of sacred
music at the Theological Academy of the Ukrainian Orthodox
Church. After Ukraine gained independence in the early
1990s, prof. Yurchenko headed the sacred music department
of the Kobza Ukrainian-Canadian Joint Venture. In 1991 he
travelled throughout the U.S. and Canada, collecting sacred music by Ukrainian composers. He realized the
first no state publication in Ukraine of a collection of Ukrainian sacred music, edited by prof. Yurchenko. In
the 1980s, prof. Yurchenko established the Ukrainian Sacred Music Foundation, which supports choirs and
sponsors publication of scores. Prof. Yurchenko has published numerous articles about choral and sacred music
in a large number academic journals and encyclopedias, both in Ukraine and abroad. He has been the head of
the jury, the Art director and the member of jury at the various choral competitions and festivals in Ukraine
and in Europe. Prof. Yurchenko was a lead instructor for a 10-day intensive Choral Conductors’ Seminar in
Edmonton (Ukrainian Music Society of Alberta, 2013) and he gave public lectures in different towns of Canada
on newly discovered works by Maksym Berezovsky, as well as master-classes with leading Ukrainian choirs.

Mstyslav Yurchenko – nato a Kiev nel 1951. E‘ un musicologo, esperto in musica liturgica Ucraina, professore
di direzione corale all’Istituto Nazionale di Cultura e Arte di Kiev. Dopo il diploma in direzione corale del
Conservatorio di Stato Tchaikovsky di Kiev, ha lavorato come direttore di numerosi cori (professionisti,
amatoriali, ecclesiastici, educativi), come cantante, e come produttore di musica programmata alla Compagnia
della Radio Statale (ha registrato 100 pezzi per la Radio Ucraina e inciso 2 CD). Dagli anni Settanta, il prof.
Yurchenko ha insegnato direzione corale in varie università Ucraine, così come storia della musica all’accademia
teologica della chiesa ortodossa Ucraina. Dopo l’indipendenza dell’Ucraina nei primi anni Novanta, il prof.
Yurchenko è stato a capo del dipartimento di musica sacra della Join Venture Ucraino-Canadese del Kobza. Nel
1991 ha viaggiato tra USA e Canada, raccogliendo musica sacra di compositori Ucraini. Ha realizzato la prima
pubblicazione non statale di musica sacra Ucraina in Ucraina. Negli anni Ottanta, il prof. Yurchenko ha creato
la Fondazione per la Musica Sacra Ucraina, che sostiene cori e sponsorizza la pubblicazione di pezzi musicali.
Il Prof. Yurchenko ha pubblicato numerosi articoli sulla musica corale e sacra in un consistente numero di
giornali ed enciclopedie accademiche, tanto in Ucraina quanto all’estero. E’ stato capo della giuria, direttore
artistico e membro di giuria in diverse competizioni corali e festival in Ucraina e Europa. Il Prof. Yurchenko
è membro All-Ukrainian National Music Association, the American Choral Directors’ Association (ACDA),
Europa Cantat, French Association “Amadeus Anjou”. E’ stato istruttore principale del Seminario di 10 giorni
in Direzione Corale ad Edmonton (Ukrainian Music Society of Alberta, 2013) e ha tenuto letture pubbliche in
diverse città del Canada riguardo ai lavori recentemente scoperti di Maksym Berezovsky, così come master con
i più prestigiosi cori Ucraini.
