4th European Solo Competition for Brass
and Percussion instruments (ESC)
Young brass soloists who are native Europeans or resident in Europe are invited to compete in the 4th
European Solo Competition for Brass and Percussion (ESC). The European Brass Band Association (EBBA)
organizes from the 29.04. – 03.05.05.2007 in Birmingham / England the 4th European Solo Competition for
Brass and Percussion instruments.
Organization
The EBBA will be responsible for the planning and running of the competition and will set up the Juries. The
Juries will be consisting of musicians of prominent standing and will judge under the set rules of the
competition. The event will be organized together with the organizers of the 30th European Brass Band
Contest 2007 in Birmingham.

Conditions of the competition
The 4th European Solo Competition for Brass Band instruments 2007 in Birmingham is open for
Soprano Cornet Eb - Cornet - Flugelhorn - Horn in Eb - Baritone Euphonium - Tenor Trombone - Bass Trombone - Tuba
Xylophone – Marimbaphon - Timpani

players (no age limit !).
The enclosed entry form should be sent by February 15th 2007 (date of postmark) to:

By submitting the entry form completed by typewriter, computer or block letters the candidate
accepts the conditions of the competition. Two recent portrait photographs and a short curriculum
vitae should be enclosed.

Candidates not accepted for the competition will be notified within 30 days after the closing date for
applications.
7.
All applicants are required to pay an entry fee of EUR 60 free of all bank charges for EBBA by direct
credit, free of all bank charges for EBBA to the EBBA, IBAN BE97 2850 5087 8549 (BIC:
GEBABEBB) with the bank of Fortis Bank N.V., Bruggestraat 19, B-8770 Ingelmunster, Belgium.,
quoting “ESC Birmingham 2007”, at the latest by the 15th February, 2007 (payments by cheques are
not accepted). The name of the applicant must be given in full even if he/she does not pay the
registration fee in person. Candidates not accepted will receive a refund of EUR 20 to cover
administration costs. There will be no refund of the registration fee under any circumstances.

At their own cost participants can bring with them their personal piano accompanist, but there are also
very experienced official professional pianists available (if they are requested on the entry form

Participants who are late by their own fault can be excluded from the participation in the competition.

Traveling, board and lodging expenses for candidates and their personal piano accompanists are the
responsibility of the candidates themselves.

Each participant should be prepared to take part in the Gala Concert – Final ESC or events which
may be organized within the period of the competition.
11.
The organizer of the competition is authorized to record acoustically and visually all concerts or events
within the period of the competition and to use these recordings to publicize the competition. The
organizer
particularly reserves the right to authorize Radio and TV stations to broadcast, record and transmit all
events of the competition and to permit the production and sale of CD's, DVD’s and other sound
carriers from performances of the competition. No claims for reimbursement for the candidates will be
considered. In submitting his/her application, the candidate is deemed to have agreed to this.
12.
The competition consists of three rounds and the final. The standard of the musical performance of
the soloists in each group of instruments will be taken into consideration for choosing the
number of candidates for the next round and will be decided at the jury meeting after each
round. A maximum of 3 candidates will be chosen by the jury for the final.
13.
The draw for the order of the participants will be taken in their presence. This remains unchanged until
the final round. Candidates who are late through their own fault may be excluded from participation in
the competition.
14.
The adjudication is by a jury consisting of distinguished musicians and pedagogues from Europe. The
names of the members in the jury will be announced prior to the commencement of the competition.
15.
The Jury will make its decisions according to the regulations. No appeal will be considered against the
decision of the jury.

The prize winners must receive their prizes in person. These will be presented at the conclusion of the
Final.
17.
The winner of the 4th European Solo Competition for Brass and Percussion is given the title
“European Soloist Champion 2007”
18.
The second and third prize winners are entitled to call themselves
“Prize winner of the European Solo Competition 2007”
19.
Promotion awards and special prizes can be given to the participants of the final.
20.
Prize winners and participants of the final rounds receive diplomas.
21.
At the suggestion of the jury the best piano accompanists will be honored with a special prize.
22.
Special prizes can be awarded too:
The best Cornet, Flugelhorn/Horn Eb, Baritone/Euphonium, Trombone, Tuba,
Xylophone, Marimbaphon, Timpani
23.
The prize winners will have the chance to give concerts.
