Fifty years since the conclusion of the Ecumenical Council Vatican II, with the promulgation of the Pastoral
Constitution “Gaudium et Spes” on the Church in the modern world, Koinè Research returns to the topic
of art in churches by means of an exhibit dedicated to artistic stained glass windows. Important European
atelier have been invited to display some of the more interesting examples of their recent production,
often the fruit of collaboration with important artists.
The exhibit has been made in collaboration with Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi Italia - Icomos Italia Vetrate.

LA VETRATA ARTISTICA CONTEMPORANEA PER LE CHIESE THE CONTEMPORARY STAINED GLASS WINDOW FOR CHURCHES
A cinquant’anni dalla conclusione del Concilio Ecumenico Vaticano II, con la promulgazione della
Costituzione pastorale “Gaudium et Spes” sulla Chiesa nel mondo contemporaneo, Koinè Ricerca
torna ad affrontare il tema dell’arte nelle chiese attraverso una mostra dedicata alla vetrata artistica.
Importanti atelier europei sono stati invitati per esporre alcuni fra gli esempi più interessanti delle loro
realizzazioni più recenti, spesso frutto della collaborazione con importanti artisti.
La mostra è realizzata in collaborazione con Corpus Vitrearum Medii Aevi Italia - Icomos Italia Vetrate.

ATELIER PAROT
L’atelier nasce nel 1946 a Digione grazie a Marcel
Parot, maestro vetraio, allievo di Félix Gaudin e
più tardi di Pierre Gaudin, nel periodo precedente
alla Seconda Guerra mondiale. Dal 1972 l’atelier è
diretto dal maestro vetraio Pierre-Alain Parot, finalista nel 1976 del concorso Migliore Artigiano di
Francia (MOF). Pierre-Alain Parot è conservatorerestauratore diplomato al Master in Conservazione
e Restauro dei Beni Culturali - vetro e vetrate - all’Università di Parigi. Tra le cariche da lui ricoperte, si
ricorda quella di Presidente della Camera Sindacale
Nazionale dei Maestri Vetrai di Francia dal 1992 al
1995. Dal giugno 1995, l’atelier ha sede presso il castello d’Aiserey, nei pressi di Digione.
Oggi l’atelier Parot è una delle grandi vetrerie contemporanee francesi, specializzato in tutte le tecniche di lavorazione del vetro, fra cui la sabbiatura, la
serigrafia, la pittura su vetro, nonché la più recente
tecnica di assemblaggio di vetri colorati tramite fusione, che apre nuovi orizzonti nella ricerca espressiva che si avvale del vetro.
L’atelier, inoltre, è coinvolto in maniera attiva
nell’elaborazione di nuovi procedimenti per la
conservazione e la lavorazione del vetro. Parot,
infatti, lavora da più di sessant’anni in collaborazione con gli uffici regionali francesi per la con-
The atelier was founded in 1946 in Dijon thanks to
Marcel Parot, master glassworker and apprentice of
Félix Gaudin and later of Pierre Gaudin, in the period before the Second World War. Since 1972 the atelier has
been directed by the master glassworker Pierre-Alain
Parot, finalist in the Best French Artist (MOF) competition in 1976. Pierre-Alain Parot holds a degree in conservation-restoration in the Master in Conservation and
Restoration of Cultural Heritage - glass and windows at the University of Paris. Among the positions he has
held is that of President of the National Chamber of
Auditors of Master Glassworkers of France from 1992
to 1995. Since June 1995, the atelier has had its headquarters in the d’Aiserey castle, near Dijon.
Today, Atelier Parot is one of France’s big contemporary glassmakers, specialized in all of the glass production techniques, among which are sand casting,
screen casting, glass painting, as well as the most recent technique of assembling colored glass by means
of casting, opening new horizons in the expressive
search that avails itself of glass.
Furthermore, the atelier is actively involved in the
realization of new methods for the conservation
and elaboration of glass. Parot, in fact, has been
working for more than sixty years in collaboration
with the French regional offices in the conservation

L’atelier realizza sia le creazioni personali di PierreAlain Parot sia quelle di numerosi artisti per commissioni private e pubbliche, come per esempio cattedrali, chiese o castelli. La varietà di tecniche impiegate dall’atelier è al servizio dei diversi e numerosi
linguaggi espressivi degli artisti. Nelle Cattedrali di
Cahors e di Tours, per esempio, con l’artista Gérard
Collin-Thiébaut e nella Chiesa di Notre-Dame de
Talant con Gérard Garouste prevale un linguaggio
figurativo. Invece nella Cattedrale di Saint Pierre,
presso Saint Claude, con l’artista Matthew Tyson,
nella Chiesa di Vasouy con l’artista Malel, nella
Chiesa di Saint Avit Sénieur con Pierre-Alain Parot
e nell’Abbazia di Acey con Jean Ricardon, la forza
comunicativa delle vetrate viene lasciata al colore,
alle forme e alle linee e, quindi, alla luce.
Fra gli artisti con cui l’atelier ha collaborato, oltre a
quelli già citati, figurano Christopher Wool con opere
per la Prioria di Charité-sur-Loire, Didier Randot per la
Chiesa di Silly Tillard, Annette Messager per il progetto delle vetrate per la Chiesa di Villenauxe, e con Vera
Pagava per la Chiesa di Saint Joseph a Digione.

restoration work on the stained glass windows of
the Cathedral of Strasbourg.
The atelier produces the personal creations of PierreAlain Parot as well as those of many artists for private
and public orders, as for example cathedrals, churches
or castles. The variety of techniques applied by the atelier is at the service of the diverse and numerous expressive styles of the artists. In the Cathedrals of Cahors
and Tours, for example, with the artist Gérard CollinThiébaut and in the Church of Notre-Dame de Talant
with Gérard Garouste, a figurative style prevails. On
the other hand, in the Cathedral of Saint Pierre in Saint
Claude, with the artist Matthew Tyson, in the Church
of Vasouy with the artist Malel, in the Church of Saint
Avit Sénieur with Pierre-Alain Parot and in the Abbey of
Acey with Jean Ricardon, the communicative force of
the stained glass windows is left to the color, the forms
and the lines, and thus to the light.
Among the artists with whom the atelier has collaborated, besides those already mentioned, are Christopher Wool
with the work for the Prioress of Charité-sur-Loire, Didier
Randot for the Church of Silly Tillard, Annette Messager for
the project of the windows for the Church of Villenauxe, and
