As a matter of fact, pressure systems can be very dangerous, should the hose crimping rapture for any reason whatsoever. In this case Stopflex simultaneously releases the liquid under pressure and allows disconnection of the hose, stopping the flow by securing it to the plant by means a cable. Actually, without the retaining system, the force of a disconnected hose could damage the system or injure persons seriously. In case of disconnection from the fittings, application of Stopflex components on flexible hoses ensures retention of the pipe, thus avoiding the dangerous whip effect. Under correct assembly, this system was manufactured and tested to ensure the retention of the hoses up to the maximum pressures provided for by the directives regulating the manufacture of hydraulic flexible hoses: USE FLEXIBILITY Therefore, as a matter of fact, proper operation of the Stopflex system cannot be guaranteed, in case of pressures exceed the limits set by the directives mentioned above. Stopflex components can be used to all kinds of flexible hoses. A band, equipped with a rubber gasket, remains perfectly secured, simultaneously and at the same time allows the hose to swell according to the working pressure. The retaining components can be secured to fittings or nipples, according to the DIN2353 and SAE J518 standards, or other system components. PHASE 1: DISENGAGEMENT The Stopflex system isn’t involved in the disengagement of the flexible hose, but, if used correctly, ensures that the hose is fully uncoupled from the ferrule that restrains it. During this phase, the flexible hose gains velocity and power because of the rise in pressure of the oil contained within it. 2a FASE: RILASCIO/SFOGO DELLA PRESSIONE In questa fase l’olio in pressione fuoriesce dal tubo flessibile che inizia a sprigionare tutta la forza che tratteneva al suo interno acquistando notevole velocità e innescando un temibile “effetto frusta”, molto pericoloso per cose o persone nelle sue vicinanze. PHASE 2: RELEASE/VENTING OF PRESSURE During this phase, the pressurised oil escapes from the flexible hose. The hose begins to expel the energy contained within it, and gains considerable velocity, triggering a frightening “whip effect” which is very dangerous to anyone or anything in its vicinity. Particolare Incisione e deformazione fascetta Particolare deformazione piastrina e cavo Detail of the deformation of the plate and cable Detail of the clamp’s cutting and deformation PHASE 3: CONTAINMENT Once the hose has been disengaged and the pressure released, the flexible hose can be contained. This is where the Stopflex system comes in: the stainless steel cable tautens and deforms while the plate cuts into the rubber of the hose, preventing the clamp, firmly attached to the hose, from disengaging. The hose clamp and plate start to deform in turn, elastically absorbing the force released from the trajectory of the flexible hose. This is a critical phase which takes just a few fractions of a second to complete and yet it is in these seconds that the system materials and components, previously sized and tested, arrest the dangerous trajectory of the flexible hose. ASSEMBLY BASICS If the Stopflex system is to work correctly, it is essential that it is correctly assembled. Indeed, if the assembly instructions shown on all the packaging are not followed to the letter, there is a real risk that the system will not work. After numerous tests on the test benches, we have uncovered the optimum combination of materials and assembly procedure to guarantee the utmost efficiency in the system.
